My daughter, who is away at college at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, started having tooth pain over the weekend. She made an appointment with a local dentist who said she needed to have a crown. The dental work was done and a temporary crown placed on Monday. By Wednesday morning she was in excruciating pain. She called the dentist who recommended they do a root canal that afternoon. I thought about having her drive home to see someone in our hometown, but she really didn’t feel up to the 2 hour+ drive. I felt more comfortable having her see a specialist so I got a list of endodontists from her insurance company and decided to call the office of Dr. Budd. Sharon, the woman who answered the phone, could not have been more helpful and accommodating. Dr. Budd was not in the office on Wednesday, so Sharon offered my daughter an early A.M. appointment on Thursday for an evaluation and then held a 2:30 appointment in case she did indeed need a root canal. I hated to make her wait a day, but I felt very confident she would receive the best care after my conversation with Sharon. My daughter LOVED Dr. Budd. She felt she was professional and knowledgeable, but most of all kind to her – a nervous young woman who has had very few prior dental procedures. She did need the root canal so Dr. Budd sent her straight to the pharmacy with a prescription for an antibiotic and prescription-strength Motrin. She returned to Dr. Budd’s office in the afternoon for the root canal. My daughter said Dr. Budd thoroughly numbed her gums before giving her the Novocaine needles, she and her assistant explained the entire procedure as it was progressing and everyone in the office made her feel 100% comfortable. I was astounded at how calm my daughter was when I talked with her after! If you are in the St. Mary’s or Lexington Park or California area or, like me, are a worrying parent of a St. Mary’s student in need of dental surgery, I without hesitation recommend Dr. Budd. It is so scary when your child is far away from home and in pain. We are both so grateful we made the decision to wait for a specialist.
