Chesapeake Cab

Everything’s up to date in Kansas City, Chicago, NYC, etc., but Southern Maryland has it’s own charm and Chesaapeake Cab is one of those charms. Based in St. Mary’s County, they also cover Charles and Calvert. I live in Calvert and needed ride home after a rental car drop off in Lexington Park. I was back home in Lusby within 30 minutes after initial call, a 16 + mile trip. Cost, $ 26! Plus a great conversation with a truly nice human being. Where in NYC or anywhere can you get a deal like that. Meters are overrated and down right unnecessary in this corner of the Vineyard!

Too bad this is the only cab company in St. Mary’s County, otherwise we would’ve chosen another service.
For one, we were picked up on-​time, which was nice. However, the cab sat outside and blew its horn (in a subdivision, mind you) until we finally heard it and came out. For some reason, the driver had his girlfriend with him as well, which was odd. The van also smelled heavily of smoke. Since there wasn’t a meter, we were quoted an ambiguous number once we arrived– $ 18 from Hollywood to San Souci.
When we called for a cab around 1:30 am (and waited the recommended 45 mins for the cab, since it was New Year’s Eve), the girl driving the cab sat outside for a few minutes, didn’t call at all, and when we finally wandered outside and saw her and waved to her, she saw us and drove off. Irritated, we called the company back, who told us she had broken down and that they were sorry and were sending another cab. Time passes, no cab. We call again, they say that they will be there in no less than 15 mins. No cab. By then, the bar had closed, it was 3:30, and we were freezing.
Luckily, one of the bartenders took us home.
Do yourself a favor and pay your friends’ brother to be your cab driver for a night, or just designate a DD. Anything but Chesapeake Cab.
