I’m a fan for the theory of this place. I LOVE volleyball and am always searching for places to play. Especially in the winter months when it’s too cold to play outside. They’ve been open about 2 years. This facility has 2 indoor sand courts, 2 hard courts and 4 outdoor sand courts(which we did not see). Upstairs is a mezzanine level which overlooks both indoor sets of courts. There are benches and tables and 2 large flat screen TVs. We played in a sand doubles tournament there yesterday and thus my review is only indicative of my experience there once in the first week of March. ************************************************************************************************************ The PROS (1)Any indoor sand volleyball facility is a good facility by default. Outdoor volleyball addicts like me are always fiending for a sand court. And we’re often willing to drive a few hours to play (2)They offer a variety of sweet & savory packaged snacks(chips, cookies, ice cream), frozen foods(like pizza, super pretzels, chicken wings), beer, soda & warm fuzzy drinks(coffee, hot chocolate). It’s not world class cuisine, just comfort foods that taste good when you’re sweaty, tired, achy, and need a quick boost. Plus there’s a direct window/service area between the food/drink area & the sand courts, so you can order whatever you like without having to walk very far (3)The bathrooms are just a few steps outside the sand courts – how convenient! ************************************************************************************************************* MYSUGGESTIONS on how they could make some small moves for major improvements(increasing creature comforts) (1)The indoor sand could be warmer! I’m always cold. ALWAYS. I simply couldn’t bear the thought of having to step into the cold sand each time we had to play. I did it anyway because I HAD to, but I FROZE each time. It took me about 10 minutes to warm up. There are two options to combat this. (a)Bring your sand socks and layer comfortable clothes that you can PLAYIN OR (b) They could heat the sand(under the courts only) with some low pressure tubing and a tankless water system. It’s not as difficult as one may think and would make a huge difference in cooler months (2)Give more attention to the cleanliness of the bathrooms.(Take this with a grain of salt.) Yes it’s a sand volleyball facility. Yes people get dirty. Yes people track sand and all other types of stuff into the bathrooms. Yes it’s never going to be pristine. However keeping the toilet paper stocked, cleaning the toilet bowls, wiping the electric hand dryer down, dusting corner cobwebs, emptying the trash in the stalls where women put their(ahem) feminine things, and picking up miscellaneous pieces of trash that have been left behind are all things that should be done every day, in every business, no matter what or where the business (3)Since there are only 2 indoor sand courts, I would limit doubles tournaments to 10 teams. That means 2 pools of 5 teams on each court. I realize this would bring in a little bit less money for the facility, however it would save time and mean that everyone gets to play more often, as opposed to having to sit for several hours at a time between games. Tournaments are typically a sit and wait game, and sitting about 1 hour between games isn’t too uncommon. But sitting 3 hours between games… is just too much! In the big picture I believe people would be happier with the tournament schedule/operations and be inclined to play there more often, hence leading to more money for the facility (4)There is ample space between the two sand courts so you rarely run into one another or send a ball into a neighboring court, which is great. The poles that hold the nets could be dug down a bit deeper so that the nets stand straight up and the antennae are also more accurate. If you like to hit line shots the antennae occasionally get in the way because they slant. This would also help the nets be equal – one sand court had a men’s height net while the other was coed height.(I’m not complaining, per se, because I’m short and I like a lower net. :) But what’s fair is fair when you’re playing in a tournament – both nets should be the same height
