If I could pick a negative amount of stars I would. Everything possible that could be wrong was. From hair in the food to not getting everything we ordered which might have been a blessing. Went here knowing it was on DDD, man what a poor representation for Guy. Restaurant was dead, service was slow and food was cold and terrible.

So, this was a tough one to figure out. But I will summarize my thoughts below. The barbecue was good. Not great, not bad, but good. Was it the best barbecue I ever had? No. I felt like the portion sizes were somewhat acceptable. But I am used to getting more for the same price elsewhere. I paid $ 8.99 for a small pork bbq sandwich and a small bowl of potato salad. I think my tea was $ 2 – 3. Plus tip, and it was easily a $ 14 meal. The food quality was not bad at all. In fact, it was good. But didn’t knock my socks off. And for the price, I thought the quantity could have been more. I would have given an easy 4 stars. But due to the issues above, I had to give 3.

Our groups’ criteria in searching for a place to eat lunch was primarily through«Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives». We were thrilled in finding JJ’s and immediately put it in the GPS. When we got there, and throughout the meal, we were well received and treated wonderfully. When we got the food, we were super pumped. Brisket, ribs, and pulled pork! After a few bites, we quickly realized that this place was anything but special. Although enjoyable, the food was only satisfying. The bathroom was awesome because it was clean. In summary, go here to support a local establishment and enjoy some satisfying BBQ. Do NOT go here if you are expecting anything greater than satisfactory meat.

So if most BBQ joints have a southern picnic vibe, this place must be the equivalent of a fine dining BBQ establishment. The interiors are really nice and unexpected. I love ribs and I love the burnt bark on truly well done ribs. Although that was not the case here, what was truly special is melon BBQ sauce. I can probably drink a bucket of that stuff. Can we start a chant? Melon, Melon, Melon — yayyyy Melon BBQ.

Not impressed. We tried the mutton sandwich and pull pork platter. Meats were too dried. For sides, we had mac and cheese, green bean and angel hair slaw. They were just okay. But the service was great.

Favorite BBQ restaurant, but so much more. Love the pulled pork and brisket, but the Tomato Bisque soup is so delicious and the«big burgers» are the only place i eat burgers. Friendly folks too! And good desserts!

Loved this place before the remodel a few years back. JJs used to look like a BBQ join on the inside. Now, it looks as if they somehow thought making BBQ a fine dining concept was a great idea. It’s not. Personally, I love the pulled goat. Eveything else is kind of a wash to me. It’s good but with so many great places in Lexington it’s hard to justify going here for the BBQ. The jalapeño cornbread muffins are pretty good, too. I agree with other posters about the signage out front. The sign is awful and barely legible from the road. A lot of potential here but not the same shop or quality of food shown on Triple D.

I periodically visit Lexington and love barbeque foods, but Unfortunately I didn’t know this place ever existed! I just happened to be in the neighborhood with a couple of friends when we found it. This was one of the BEST barbeque restaurants I had ever been to. I loved the food. We had baby back ribs and beef brisket. It was amazingly juicy and tasty with incredible sauces which I had never experienced before. The staff were kind and professional. My friends and I will definitely return and encourage our other family and friends to come and eat here! I pity that I didn’t know this place before to come and enjoy the food sooner!

First of all ‚; The service couldn’t have been better. Kinda wish we could pack Susan up with us and take her on the rest of our journey, but we ran out of room in the Subaru. ;) Second: the food … Oh muh gawd. The food simply awesome! I could eat the mutton daily, not to mention the ribs, pulled pork and turkey… Third: dessert, if you crave perfection in a bowl. Look no further . In closing. If you’re local, you have a gem. And if you’re traveling make the time to visit!

Can’t wait to eat at JJ MCBrewster’s again. We stopped the other day and really enjoyed our lunch. I don’t understand how they can only have 3.5 stars! The restaurant in nestled in a strip mall and can be easily missed. The inside is open and nicely decorated. The staff were just top notch… very friendly and helpful. We had different variations of pulled pork and pulled chicken and it was all delicious! The green beans and mac & cheese were a little different than I’ve had before but were also delicious. For dessert, we had banana pudding and ice cream which was fabulous. I even loved the iced tea… southern style just like my mother used to make. If you’re a food snob or yearn to be a professional food critic do everyone a favor and go elsewhere. Otherwise, you will not regret stopping in for some BBQ at JJ McBrester’s!!!

I understand this was on Triple D at one point. The service was very good. Thought the food was above average(had the pulled pork with Mac and cheese and sweet potato fries). What I thought was a bit lacking honestly was the sauce options. Truly I found the sauces lacking in boldness of flavor. I’m not one to say that sauces don’t matter in BBQ though conversely also believe they aren’t essential. But I do appreciate some strong flavors and was a bit disappointed.

Got the pulled pork, pulled chicken, and smoked sausage combo. The waitress knew the menu very well(and nice on the eyes too). It was delicious. Not much more I can say. I definitely recommend it

Stopped here on our way to Augusta, KY specifically to try the Mutton burger, advertised in Diners, Drive-in and Dives. To our surprise, no longer offered on the Menu. Tried the BBQ sampler with sides, no smoked taste to it and overpriced. Would not recommend.

I came here because it was my first time in Lexington and this place was on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives for having great BBQ. Initial impression: the signs outside were very confusing. Are you a BBQ place or an ice cream shop? The menu was even more confusing with the BBQ in one small corner and the sides on the other. But we were hungry and didn’t want to hunt around town for something else. The food was ok, but not fantastic. Meat had good flavor, but was dry. Corn bread was good, but again, dry. I think the best part of the meal was the locally brewed beer(which wasn’t posted on any signs or on the menu, and when asked the waitress had to check in the back which beers they had on tap) Not sure if I’ll have reason to pass through Lexington again, but if I do, I’ll find someplace else.

Being a regular customer since they opened really says something about this restaurant. I have a usual order: the pulled pork plate with two sides. Each of them are delicious, but my favorites are the mashed Yukon gold potatoes and the macaroni and cheese. The four sauces are homemade and delicious! Everything I’ve had here is wonderful, even the soups!

Really spectacular BBQ. I was apprehensive to try it because of its strip mall location but was very pleasantly surprised. Lo had the chicken but sampled some of the pork that a family member was having — both were lean and delectable. Prices are very low for the portions. Friendly service.

Didn’t even know this place was literally a block away. Walked into the rest. And was immediately greeted by a waitress who seated me and explained a couple of the homemade favorites. After looking the menu over a couple times I finally decide for Macs pulled pork with bake beans. The food came out in no time everything was fresh and smelled great! The bun that they put the pork was a fantastic addition to the overall taste that I didn’t expect would work well. Oh who would of thought of cutting the bread where it forms a nice little pocket for that flavor filled juicy pulled pork to rest in with there homemade sauce was a fantastic lunch for the day. Great service, great food… One satisfied customer!

I don’t know if I’d give the food 3 stars, but overall the service was friendly and more than just our server came to ask if we needed anything. It is nice to be acknowledged when walking both in and out of a restaurant, which they did. I ordered the half-chicken dinner and my boyfriend ordered the pulled pork plate. The chicken and the pork were both good. The sides were not as good as I was expecting. Everything tasted too sugary, even the green beans. There were 4BBQ sauce bottles on the table and they were unique. Also more on the sweet side than I prefer, though. The prices are also higher here than they are at other local BBQ’s. Our meals were each $ 11.99 but that was about the cheapest for the dinner plates. Others were closer to $ 15. Sandwiches in the $ 8-$ 10 range. Overall, ok, but I don’t think I’d go back unless I had a coupon. They do accept Moocho, however!

This Lexington, Kentucky joint has some damn good BBQ! I generally don’t like ciabatta bread, but somehow it really worked on their pulled pork sandwich. I’ve eaten pulled pork sandwiches all over the country and this is truly among the best. I mixed in the Western Sauce and the Daviess County Dip and, honestly, a GREAT sandwich! The place was interesting. From the outside it looked like the kind of place you’d visit in a strip mall next to a laundromat. Inside, it looked like Crate n’ Barrel came in and decorated the place. They had 50’s music playing. .. serving up barbecue. .. The place seemed to be having an identity crisis. Nevertheless. .. I don’t care if they threw the food on paper plates and made me eat on my lap in a folding chair in the parking lot. .. the food was great and, in the end, that’s really all that matters to me. And, for what it’s worth, the woman who served us was sweet as pie. Great service, great food. .. I’ll be back when I’m in Lexington again.
