Ovid’s has moved across the street from the UK Main Library and has changed quite a bit — but not, sadly, for the better. It’s confusingly sharing space with a sushi bar(what’s up with that?!), but the biggest problems are that) 1) You can expect to wait about 20 minutes for lunch anywhere around noontime, and 2) the portions are miserably small — at least for my Cod and Wildcat Chips when I was there a few days ago. Actually, they were out of Wildcat Chips(what are Wildcat chips anyway? I know what buffalo chips are …) so I was offered a choice of a different side and went with the potato salad. It’s a good thing I picked that, because otherwise I wouldn’t have had much of anything to eat! Each piece of fish was roughly the size of my thumb!(I’ll post a photo.) Seriously? For $ 5.99 this is what is offered? With a 20 minute wait? Uh-uh! Never again. I wasn’t the only one waiting, just so you know that it wasn’t my fish that was causing the delay. There were quite a few of us looking at each other with raised eyebrows that day, all of us thinking WTF? About that wait: The workspace for this restaurant is badly designed, and no amount of hustle on the workers’ part will ever fix it. There’s a grill with space for two people to work elbow-to-elbow and a table behind them where the orders get laid out, but they really need to double that grill space. Unfortunately, a lot of space is taken up by a chicken rotisserie — c’mon, folks, put that thing in the back, it doesn’t have to be on display to the public, especially not when that is valuable space that could be doubling your throughput with a second grill station!
