Quick service on a national holiday? Sweet! My mixed drinks are stout and they’re playing good tunes on the stereo/jukebox(from Hot Chip to Jay-Z? Yes!). Good place to meet up with friends, even when it’s as busy as it is right now.

We came out early to Rosebud at around ten o’clock. I usually hang out with grad students who haven’t ventured far from campus. The bar has somewhat of a «dive bar» feel, and that’s my style. I was able to talk and I had to place to sit. The bartender was very friendly, and provided good advice about beer and told us the history of the place. It did start to fill-up when we left, and people were trying to get to the paid section. I was confused by the two forms of ID policy. This was not enforced on us, which was good because I hate to carry a purse and only had my license on me.

Review is for the Rosebud only… The Rosebud is old and different. The décor is unique, but the lighting is disorienting. Mix of white light on the ceiling and neon is ugly. Turn off the neon and it works. Bar top is a well worn wooden surface with a round rail. Beaten up box foot rest. Wooden floors. Padded circular stools with no back support. The bar back is where the problem begins… in the center is a drawing of an older blonde woman in a formal dress holding a rose in her teeth, all surrounded by blue neon light. Though the picture likely is loved and has historical significance, it’s hideous. Combined with the yellowed(likely from when smoking in bar was legal) ceiling painted with clouds and geese with a huge angel in the center, it creates a depressing environment. Service is prompt and friendly. Other, mostly drunk, patrons are diverse. Please note it was homecoming game at UK.

My partner and I were visiting from out of town and went to Silks Lounge last Saturday. We were charged an inappropriate amount of money for a shot of Bourbon. The bar’s alcohol was all set on the same shelf so it was impossible to know that the shot he ordered was going to ring up over $ 70. We were given no warning by the bartender. Furthermore, when we asked her to reverse the charges, she said there was nothing she could do and promised a call from the manager. The manager never called. This leaves me very suspicious of the bar’s general business practices. I’ve filed a report with the BBB of central Kentucky in hopes that this doesn’t happen to other out-of-town travelers. NOTCOOL. Additionally, I researched the retail price of the bourbon he ordered and the bar’s mark up was nearly 500% – this is also extremely inappropriate and unfair. I advise all travelers to stay away from Rosebuds/Silks!
