Hands down the best coffee shop in town. Possibly the best espresso and americanos I’ve ever had – and that’s coming from someone who came from the Mecca of coffee, Seattle. Nice friendly staff and comfortable atmosphere with occasional live music.

I was really impressed by my visit: nice folks and great coffee. It is definitely somewhere I would like to have a quick date with my wife. The fact that it is a locally owned business and not a chain makes it all the better.

This place happens to be my friend Halide’s favorite coffee place. I just so happened a few weeks ago to meet her there for a cup of coffee and a work date. It was very cozy. The owner Holly was working and was very nice and welcoming. She was great to talk to and really friendly. If you are hungary, they offer snacks like muffins and cakes. If you have a sweet tooth they serve KY made gelato. If you seek entertainment, they have games, toys, books, and magazines to keep you busy while you drink your coffee/tea. I will stop in here again. It is a very nice place to hang out and enjoy your coffee and get some work done.

National brands are convenient but a neighborhood coffee house can do it better and Southland Perk does it better. Much better. Today’s house brew was a tasty Costa Rican medium-dark roast. I followed up with an Americano with 2 shots that Holly(one of the owners) suggested. Also, very nice! Muffins(choice of blueberry+cranberry, or brown sugar-cinnamon) were fresh from the oven and a treat to eat. There are two seating areas. I sat in the back with indirect background light(the ceiling lights were off), a fish tank and a choice of table/chair or armchair/sofa seating. Small touches like different wifi routers for the front and back areas(I assume to enhance signal strength), ample convenience outlets, an inviting atmosphere that’s conducive to writing, contemplating, or relaxing, are a few thing that will make Southland Perk my first choice from now on. Holly knows coffee and she’s happy to share her passion. Southland Perk has great people, great coffee, and a great place.

Such a cute coffee shop with really tasty, affordable coffee. I haven’t had food there, so I cannot speak for their other items. The staff was so personable and willing to hold a conversation with me even at 8am :) it is now added to my rotation of great coffee shops in Lex

It’s about time that I write an update for the Southland Perk. I have been coming here for almost a year now and has seen it transform over time. Late in summer, it went through a change in ownership but the essence of this place is still the same– a cozy, neighborhood coffee shop where you are greeted with smiles! The new owners(and former customers) Holly & Jason have brought their own unique and creative interpretation to what this place is supposed to be and made it truly their own. You have plenty of drink options at the Perk. They use Magic Beans coffee for any of the coffee/espresso drinks. They also have good selection of loose-leaf tea from Adagio teas. In addition to their standard menu, they have a selection of specialty drinks that change monthly. You can buy in-house baked goods such as cheddar-bacon muffins or cinnamon-brown sugar coffee cakes. They also happen to be gluten-free since one of the owners has a gluten allergy. Depending on the day, you can also find turkey or veggie wraps in the fridge that are also GF and made in-house. Oh, and don’t forget the KY-made gelato!!! Definitely worth a try even in the freezing cold winter! They have plenty of seating both in the front and the back of the shop. The room in the back is more quiet. It could even serve as an ideal setting for your next small group gathering! When you decide to come here, make sure you have a few minutes to spare. The owners Holly & Jason are great people and enjoy getting to know their customers. If my time wasn’t limited, you would find me here almost every day chatting up a storm. Note: If you like this place, follow them on facebook so you can find out when they have live music and open-mic nights!!!

I had coffee here with a friend from my writing group. The atmosphere is super cute. One big plus is that they have outlets next to almost every table if you need to do some writing. I really liked the variety of drinks. I had a Snow Angel which was a white chocolate mocha with sprinkles on top. How fun!

I had a latte and a wonderful chat with the owners. The layout of the shop is very thoughtful. They have a separate area where groups can meet and talk or parents with children can go. The area has games and books for kids. I will be going regularly and am taking friends. Nice people, great coffee.

Great coffee shop! I just had the regular brewed coffee but it is very good. I really like the interior, a great little place to sit and read or do whatever you enjoy. Great location as there aren’t really any other coffee shops in the area.

Southland Perk is a hidden gem off of Southland Dr. I just stopped by there for a business meeting and a cup of coffee and ended up with a sweet cup of gelato as well! The Gelato is even made here in Kentucky. Pros: — Quiet atmosphere — Great prices — Very good coffee — Plenty of parking Cons: — The location is a little off of the beaten path. This is definitely a neighborhood coffee shop. I recommend you stop by and see this place on your way to work!
