The Home Depot

Let me say that I have had good luck with the store and today after a complete fiasco an assistant Manager named Patrick was able to get me some resolution on my problem with their installer.
I went to select and order carpet a couple of weeks ago. A very knowledgeable salesperson in the flooring center named Jack was helpful and made great suggestions and recommendations. I wanted to go ahead and schedule measurement. It costs $ 35 to have the area measured — fair enough. But it isn’t even a Home Depot person, some third party company who measures. In order to get the $ 35 measure in their system, I had to put in a «dummy» order for carpet I had no intention of every buying. Guy comes, measures, a couple days later I get a call from another third party who «builds their quotes» saying she had my quote. How? I hadn’t even selected the carpet or pad yet. She told me when I was ready to order to call back. Ridiculous. Why even have Home Depot?
So, now I was scheduled for installation tomorrow but had never been given a time. Since I need to clear the room and move things around so we can function during installation time, I called to get the time from Romanoff Renovations who is apparently ANOTHER third party who installs. The person I talked to initially said they would arrive between 8 and 10. Then she said they didn’t have carpet! Seriously?! I ended up having to make 5 phone calls to the installer during the day because no one was returning my calls although they kept saying they would. Every person I talked to gave me a different story. The last straw was that they told me the warehouse manager of the local installer was on vacation and was the only person in the office and they couldn’t confirm until tomorrow morning (when they are supposed to be here) that they even have the carpet. When Patrick talked to me that lie was exposed because the carpet had been delivered there today and SIGNED FOR. So, there were people in that warehouse.
Having said all this, the store itself isn’t really at fault, but it will cause me to NEVER order carpet from Home Depot again because of being shoved off onto all these third party companies who have no skin in the game and really don’t care whether you are satisfied or not. It’s a shame, because our Home Depot is right up the street and the employees are often very helpful.

The store was cramped with product and useless employees. We passed twelve workers who were seemingly standing around. None said hello or offered to help us find what we were searching for. We passed the same guy three times only to find what we needed almost directly in front of him. He never once acknowledged us.

This is a pathetic store… the checkout line was extremely long and no one seemed to care. I will likely never shop at the store again because of their inefficient checkout process.

I usually come to Home Depot first when I’m looking for any kind of home repair thing. I also love their summer plant and garden selection. I always find myself buying some kind of flower or herb while I’m there.

This store is great compared to MOST of the hardware stores in town.
Like any big box store, many of the staff don’t have much of a clue. But, if you know who to ask (the folks in the tool rental or a few of the department managers) you can get the answers and help that you need.
I haven’t had them do any large projects for me, but I have friends that have. It may have helped that they knew what they wanted, but they have had no problems.
We have even returned large items because they turned out to be not what we wanted, or we changed our minds. No problems. No hassles. Prompt refunds.
I’ve even had them lower the price on some items, for me.
Know that when I can, I go to the hardware store in Chevy Chase. It’s the right thing to do — support your local family owned and operated store when you can. Remember, they don’t get the tax and infrastructure breaks that the big corporate stores get. So, if I pay a few cents more for an item — so what, it’s going back into the community. That’s a bit off the subject of this Home Depot, but that’s relevant to me.

It’s a mass corporate store what do you expect?
Customer service could be better. I walked by several associates who did not say hello, can I help you, get out, nada.
I will admit the bathrooms are extremely clean.

We had a terrible experience, remodeled our kitchen they were terrible to deal with took over 3 months to finish and they dollared us to death

Bear in mind, I’ve not had an installation or huge project done by these folks. This is just my neighborhood hardware store where I stop for paint, tools, and other project supplies. It has served my needs and the staff has always been helpful to us on our MANY visits.

I went to Home Depot with my first major rehab project. I wanted to get a discount plus have some financing (at least 6 months so I could make draws on the loan). Two guys told me that would not be a problem but I have to get open a Home Depot card for the financing, which I didn’t really want. The guy was helpful in helping me get product I will give him that, but when the bid from the bid room came back he said he could get 10% off everything except the custom sized windows which were already discounted 15%. I was fine with that. I understand you can’t double dip on discounts. Apparently he didn’t get anything from the bid room. Rather than tell me that he told me I could get 10% what I didn’t realize was I was being juked into opening up a credit card, but since I was opening the credit card that I didn’t want in the first place to get the financing, I couldn’t also open up the credit card for 10%. So I asked them what is the discount on everything but the windows. Turns out they were offering a 0.5%. So now I have to open up a card I didn’t want, battle for the 10% and the 12 month financing, waste 3 hours of my time, and be annoyed for what I would have done but opening up a credit card and never talking to an associate.
What annoyed me most was that they intentionally set a up a smoke screen to try to make me feel happy about it rather than just saying there’s not much was can do to help you with this one.

I recently planned a kitchen project and went to Home Depot for the paint. The staff at the paint desk were absolutely phenomenal! I received much greater service than Id expected. The dept mgr discussed my project with me and showed me how the colors that I had chosen would look beneath different types of light. She even walked outside with me to show me how the color changed in the sunlight. Without her advice, my kitchen would have looked like a tomato explosion! They helped me choose more suitable colors that I couldn’t be happier with. They were very knowledgeable and friendly. I would recommend them to anyone.

The home depot. What is there to say but it is a huge hardware store. If you need stuff to fix stuff come here. They have it hear but dont come here expecting a lot of help from the staff there are a few good ones I’m sure but most people don’t know where half the stuff is, but then again who could possibly know all that stuff. I really like their garden center for its convenience and low prices.
