The Sage Rabbit

A lovely local restaurant where the food is prepared with care and attention to the season. A good menu with something for everyone. Locally sourced but not trying to hard. Attentive service with attention to detail. There is a well thought out wine list with some interesting choices. I know that when the weather gets warmer we will be back to sit on the patio outside !

I was so excited to try out this place, but it was seriously disappointing. For a Friday night, it was especially depressing. factors include the music, ambience, waitress, DRINKS, and food.

Wow. The freshly made in-​house fettuccine was so light and fluffy and reminded me of my Nona’s. The sauce complimented the pasta, showcased it rather than masking or overwhelming the delicate pasta. The orange cake with chèvre frosting and fig compote was an unexpected surprise. The cake was moist but firm enough to stand up to and compliment the fluffy goat cheese frosting and the fresh tasting fig. The most amazing thing is that it is not overly sweet, though it easily could have been. Finish it off with the aviator. The gin-​based drink is refreshingly tart and just the right finish. I don’t even like gin. Joy, our server, was the cherry on top. She provided amazing service that was attentive but not at all intrusive. Like everything else, she harmoniously blended into a truly satisfying experience. Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but The Sage Rabbit exceeded my vague expectations and would beat out any Boston restaurant (where I live). Check it out!

In a great location with promise, but not there yet. Beer list on chalkboard looks like draft, but it’s not. Salad was very uninspiring. Very little work put into it. Beet risotto was lacking in flavor and quality. I wanted to like this place, but really didn’t.

This dining experience was quite the delight! The shrimp and scallop bouillabaisse was excellent. The service was great & I will definitely go back.

Our group of six, all from different states here for a meeting ate here tonight. We were met by Brian our server, who treated us with humor and a real desire to make our evening meal a real pleasure. We started out with mushroom soup and/​or appetizers, I had soup… best taste ever. Then we all had different meals from the pasta, pork, beef to the fish special, again all 10 out of 10 we were sharing and loving it all. Then the deserts. One gal had the s’more and we had a custard that was really something different from an initial sour taste comes a sweetness very unique but really good. Great atmosphere drinks and food. Our server said the chef is well known in town and they buy local fresh food. Anyway I can’t say enough how this place greatly satisfied six very different pallets. Well done Brian and Cage Rabbit Chef.

Had dinner there the other night with my wife. The food and service were superb. We had apps, dinner, and dessert with a bottle of wine and cocktails. Everything was expertly prepared and we enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere as well. We definitely intend to dine there again soon.

The food and service was perfect. General Tso Half Hen was one of the specials of the night. It was incredible. We also got the handmade pasta, which was evident in the taste and texture. Drinks and dessert. Everything was great. Will be back.

Been here multiple times for lunch since i work right around the corner and have loved everything i have gotten here! They have the best burger i have ever had. Always cooked to perfection.
I decided to go for dinner one night and had the bass in a curry sauce that was a special that night. So glad i tried it. It was amazing!
You have to try the in house dessert too. One of my new favorite restaurants in lexington!

I had heard mixed reviews but wanted to give it a try. Wanted it to be good. Worst meal I have ever had in Lexington by far. Homemade pasta floating in flavorless pesto «soup.» How can pesto be flavorless. I can’t even make it flavorless. I might as well have flushed $ 100 down the toilet. They will be closed before 2016. Sad. They should read the reviews and try to change before it is too late.

Sage Rabbit is my new fav restaurant in Lexington. Fresh locally sourced ingredients combined with Chef Foster’s inspirations create memorable meals. Prices are low compared to other restaurants of this quality in Lexington. While many customers dine outside I have preferred the relaxed comfort of the dining rooms. Staff are friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. Lunches and dinners are equally delicious. Finally there is always something new to try from the daily specials or the frequently changing regular menu.

This restaurant had so much promise — A great location, local food, reasonable prices, and a dog-​friendly patio! Needless to say, I was very excited to try it. Our experience, however, can only be described as disappointing.
The service was deplorably slow — it took fifteen minutes to put in a drink order and another ten to order appetizers. Our server was very nice but seemed distracted and inexperienced.
And the food — it wasn’t BAD but the flavors were seriously lacking. The pork was overdone, the risotto was watery, the chutney had no spice.
I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant UNLESS all you want to do is have drinks on a patio. The patio looked great.

I had dinner there three nights ago, and enjoyed it very much. The restaurant seems very vegetarian-​friendly, even though I’m an omnivore. When I dined there, I had the mixed green salad with heirloom tomatoes, blue cheese, onion crisps (thin strips of onions lightly breaded and very lightly fried), with a Dijon vinaigrette. It was extremely tasty. After finishing it, I ordered the risotto of the day as my entrée. The risotto was absolutely perfect, and I have high standards for risotto. It was served with yellow squash, fresh chopped rosemary and a squeeze of lemon, topped lightly with asiago cheese. I was a little surprised it wasn’t offered with a protein, but that didn’t bother me. When I returned there today for lunch, the risotto special was offered with shrimp, so I don’t think it is always necessarily vegetarian, but it’s nice to have that option.
Their wine list is limited, but good. The service was very friendly and prompt, and our server responded to all our questions.
One of the great things about this place is that all of their fruits and vegetables, except potatoes, are locally sourced. You really can taste the difference.
I’ve seen complaints about the prices, but I honestly think it’s comparable to most of the best quality mid-​price restaurants in town, like A la lucie, Sabio, or Wines on Vine. My dinner bill, with salad, entrée, and three glasses of wine, was only $ 55. I considerate that reasonable, but other diners may feel differently.

Meatballs burnt on the outside. Raw on the inside. Lucky to be born with a strong stomach. And green beans with the ends still on? Might as well been eating them off the vine! Of course the medium rare shrimp was to die for. Almost literally. But the raw potatoes were the Crème de la Crème. I chewed and chewed and chewed-​reminiscent of hubba bubba! But be sure to ask for the tomato salad. It comes with a mayonaissy green bean salad dragged unwillingly into a carved out tomato. We all just sort of looked at it, daring each other to take the first bite. We were lucky to escape with our health.

Our server was young and not familiar with the limited menu, but that should improve with time. I thoroughly enjoyed my entrée — the filet was delicious and presented nicely! I tried a bite of my dinner companion’s salmon — very good as well. The roasted potatoes were unavailable and wedge fries were suggested — a tasty substitute! The green beans were good too, although the hard brown ends were left on. I spent way too much time having to cut off both ends of each green bean in order to eat them. The chocolate dessert was quite small, but very good. The kicker, though, that caught my companion and I quite off guard was the charge for soft drink and iced tea refills! Each Coke was $ 2 and each iced tea was $ 3. The server offered refills during dinner, but did not mention any extra charge! Had I known I was paying a total of $ 12 for iced tea, I would not have settled for warm tea that immediately melted what little ice there was in the smallish glass. There is only real sugar to sweeten the tea, which, of course, doesn’t dissolve — no sugar substitutes are available. At first, we thought the inexperienced server had made a mistake charging for refills, but she acknowledged that it was customary there. Sadly, the shock of paying $ 18 for two non-​alcoholic drinks, on top of a $ 56 dinner bill for two, will prevent a return visit and prompt a warning to friends who ask about our experience.

Just had dinner there tonight. Enjoyed it for the most part. Very young and inexperience staff up front — enthusiastic and friendly for sure, but amusingly not-​quite-​there-​yet. Examples: the freshly brewed iced tea was delicious but still warm even as the last ice cube melted as it was served; the seared scallop in Chile Bisque was served without a spoon (and there were not any spoons in the table setting), the plates that are too hot for the servers put down on the table (they ended up putting it down on the server cloth they brought it out on and then having to wiggle and slide that out from under the plate), having to ask for bread (needed for sopping the afore mentioned delicious chile bisque), the server having to go ask management if they had bread, and then after arriving, having to defend it from being cleared (twice) while we are clearly still enjoying it, and the one that left me and my wife somewhat speechless: asking for our preference for the temperature on the hen. The food was all very tasty, though, not perfect (the scallops though delicious were somewhat underseared). However, the dessert of the day: KY butter cake with chocolate Bourbon sauce brought back fond memories of the late chocolate bread pudding of the Harvest of old. Will definitely return, and most definitely wishing them the best and godspeed with respect to the opening week learning curve.
