What kind of place has no trash cans? What kind place has no sugar in their sweet tea? The staff is nice but that doesn’t make up for the food. The brisket was passable but the chicken was tofu like. Most of the food was cold and they served us in to go boxes an hour before they closed as they tried to push us out the door. They do not serve any pizza unlike any help review has said. Would not recommend.

This is not the place to go for an upscale or elegant dining experience, but that would never stop me. I don’t rate the food as more than average for what it is offered to be. Sometimes BBQ is just BBQ; it’s going to be fun to eat, but not something you’d be willing to run a stop sign trying to get back. If you’re in the neighborhood and in the mood, this is a fine place to go. The prices are very reasonable. The one«complaint» I might level toward Wagon Bones Grill is based on the one occasion when I showed up after having checked their published hours and found that they were closed with no note on the door to explain why I’d been misinformed. I’ve heard it’s a family run business and I suppose it’s possible that there was some emergency that prevented them from opening on that day, so I made the decision not to give up on them and it worked out fine the next time I tried.

My friend and I were originally thinking of going to another barbecue place, but we figured the reviews for this place were pretty good and the $ 12 for $ 24 deal was pretty dang good, so we’d give it a shot. We both agreed that we would have paid the full price. We ordered the pulled pork, brisket, and ribs, with sides of greens and mac ‘n’ cheese, 2 sweet teas, and topped it all off with cherry cobbler – pretty dang good for $ 12, but still not a bad deal even if we paid full price! The pulled pork and brisket were winners – fatty, flavorful, and slathered in their tasty barbecue sauce. The ribs were pretty good too, but not as great as the others. The mac ‘n’ cheese was al dente and flavorful, and the greens were incredibly savory. The cherry cobbler was a nice way to finish the meal – just the right amount of sweetness. Definitely gets my recommendation!

Sandwich was good. Potato salad was awesome, but the sides are TINY and they only had salt on the table… No pepper??? Brought pepper to me in a small bowl from kitchen. Need a little more bite in the sauce.

Superior friendly service at 6pm on Tuesday. This is great sweet SAUCYBBQ. Just go in knowing what you’re getting. The sides were fantastic– bean salad, mac n cheese, cole slaw, excellent greens. Clean!

I have not actually been to WB. and can only speak for their ribs. A friend brough them in for a party at ther home. They were certainly tender enough, fall-off-the-bone tender. Since she made the«sides» from scratch, I’m unable to comment on those served by WB. Bu I thoroughly enjoyed the ribs.

Drove all the way in from Nicholasville Friday evening. Website said they were open till 8pm. I got there at 6 and they were closed. Not a very smart way to run a business and I won’t be going back.

Great place to stop in for lunch. Ive only tried the pulled pork sandwich, but was well pleased and look forward to trying the brisket and mutten. The service is excellent and they treat their customers as friends.

We had ribs, brisket, and chicken. The food was EXCELLENT. The problems were these: surprisingly small portions for a BBQ joint, no liquor license so we had to drink water with our meal, and the décor of the place was pretty drab. A few changes and this restaurant would be excellent.

I want to like it, I really do. The bummer is this BBQ just isn’t very good. They sauce everything prior to ordering… a total no-no for real smoked BBQ. So far I’ve tried the pork(meh), the brisket, and finally today I asked for the brisket without sauce ensuring I get a decently fresh cut. The problem is without the overly sweet sauce bathing the meat the flavor just isn’t there. No smoke ring, no rub on the outside, no real hickory or other wood flavors. Simply put, go a block up Jefferson to County Club for some real legit Lexington BBQ. They servers and staff are amazingly friendly though.

Wagon Bones doesn’t really fit with the aesthetic or «style» of Jefferson Street, but the bigger issues with it are the plainness of the food and the inconsistency of available items. I like their hot links a lot — I am a sucker for barbecued sausage — but I haven’t had any other ‘cue there that really impressed me at all. Some people say the food is oversauced, and I think that criticism is pretty fair. You don’t really get hit with strong smoke flavor or anything else but the sauce: I dare say you’d have a hard time distinguishing the pulled meats from each other. The sides are also pretty unremarkable, which is a shame because I’d like to have better baked beans, macaroni & cheese, or greens with my barbecue. For me, the biggest problem is that several menu items are regularly unavailable without any indication. This shouldn’t be an issue since their menu is written on a chalkboard, but they often don’t have the first or second option I want when I walk in. Last time I went, for instance, I ordered hot links and greens. The cashier rung up my order, but when he went in the back he said they didn’t have hot links or greens. I asked for brisket and mac & cheese instead, and he went to the back again and returned to say those were unavailable too. I ended up with pulled chicken and baked beans. I wish I could say this was rare, but it has happened often enough I doubt I’ll go back any more.

Had the rib dinner. Very good flavor and sauce. Collared greens, Mac & cheese and baked beans were all excellent. Staff was very friendly. Limited parking. Lot was full but only two customers inside.

Hard to beat a good barbecue sandwich for $ 6. The pork is very good, brisket is top notch, hot links are a go-to of mine for their novelty and flavor, and now they are one of the very few central KYBBQ joints offering KY’s own style of ‘que: mutton! Sides are tiny, but you get chips and a drink. You’ll pay more at McDonald’s. Check ‘em out!
