Carolyn’s Country Cousins Pumpkin Patch

Okay, so first things first. Went here for a field trip. Would I go back again with the family later? Probably not. For $ 12 a head, it’s a little steep to get in. I get it. It’s a business and you’ve gotta pay the bills. But after that, it’s a nickel and dime fest. $ 3 for bottled water. $ 3 for an apple slush. $ 3 for a train ride. And finally, $ 10 for a dozen pumpkin donuts… those may be the only thing «worth it» for me! The pumpkin patch was literally an extremely dusty trail that is completely staged. A big old dusty mowed down corn field that has random pumpkins tossed all over it so the kids (and some not so farm savvy adults) think it’s really a pumpkin patch. Not super impressed by this «pumpkin patch» and the way it is presented. The barn animals, rabbits, play ground, etc. are all nice little side bars. The animals are totally penned up so there is not a lot of interaction, just a quick walk through the small barn enclosure. I’ve gone to several others in the area: Louisburg Cider Mill, Pumpkins, etc. They are far better with far more character! PS Porta potties with NO PLACE TO WASH YOUR HANDS! UGGGGGG.

A very disappointing experience. First of all, this place is terribly over-​priced! $ 12/​person for entrance. Pumpkins were over-​priced. Bottled water is $ 3 a bottle. I ordered a peanut butter & jelly sandwich for $ 3 and received two slices of bread and a packet of peanut butter and a packet of grape jelly. Do not come here hungry.
The bathrooms are porta-​potties with nowhere to wash your hands afterwards.
Animals were caged up so there wasn’t much interaction with the animals.
Most of the «free» activities consisted of playgrounds, tires in the ground, and sheds/​play houses. (We could have went to a park for free). Train ride, hay ride, corn maze are all extra $$.
My family was very disappointed with this experience compared to other past experiences at other pumpkin patch farms.
The only positive thing I have to say about this place is that the pumpkin donuts were tasty, but still pricey at $ 10/​dozen.
Do your family a favor and save some money, go somewhere else.

Deliberately deceitful signage. We didn’t even want to go to Carolyn’s Country Cousins, we were looking for the Liberty Corn Maze. However, there was a employee in the middle of the road, directing traffic into the parking lot right in front of the Carolyn’s patch. From the lot, you can SEE the «bridges» at the Liberty Corn Maze, so it looks like all the same thing. So, you walk up and look for the closest way in. We’re talking among ourselves and not paying attention like a liability attorney would. We get it line and walk in and pay. There are very large, some hand-​written, «NO REFUND» signs very noticeably placed. As soon as the credit card machine completes the transaction ($ 36.00 for two adults and one 13 year old), I look up and see a small estimated 6″ x 12″ sign that says «liberty corn maze is a separate business» overhead by the exit door going from the entrance shack into the business. I thought «well that’s strange, is that for liability or insurance purposes or what? Then I started looking around, and see all the kids stuff and I realize we may just have paid for the wrong place. So, my wife goes back to the cashier, and is told yep we screwed you, you are just getting in the kids pumpkin patch and the Liberty Corn Maze is 100 yards further west. And, obviously, «NO REFUNDS» as this fact was marked aggressively with large, obnoxious, and repeated signage. But, there were NO signs saying «THIS IS NOT THE LIBERTY CORN MAZE». So, we decide to make the best of it. There were no activities for a 13 year old, most are for smaller kids. So we rode out to the field and picked up some pumpkins (which cost an additional $ 50.00 on the way out) and we tried some of the pumpkin doughnuts, which were good. So we spent about $ 100.00 and we DID NOT EVEN WANT TO GO HERE. But, «no refunds!» On the way out, I walked over and looked at the entrance signage again. There was NO mention that this is NOT the Liberty Corn Maze. The best they had was a list of the «included activities» and the corn maze was NOT on there, so you are supposed to be able read that long list and notice the omission, I guess. Then there also was the small sign previously mentioned, AFTER you pass the cash registers.
If you wanted to go to this business, I think it would be fine for small kids. I am giving it one star because in my opinion, they are being calculated and deliberate in misguiding people who are looking for the Liberty Corn Maze. I would point to; 1) the employee in the road directing traffic, 2) the missing information on the signage, 3) the cryptic, incomplete and inadequate signage, 4) the placement of the signage AFTER you already paid, 5) the aggressive and prominently displayed «no refund» policy.
If you read the reviews, this has happened to lots of people (going to the wrong place, or believing they are both the same place) THE TWO BUSINESSES ARE OWNED BY THE SAME FAMILY; you can look it up here;

I took my preschool class there and it was not the greatest. First they don’t have real bathrooms just porta-​potties and no running soap to wash hands, not fun with preschoolers. Second, they have no water fountains to drink out of, they told us we could buy water for our children and it would be $ 3 a head. I think not! Who doesn’t provide water? They should for the price they charge. We got in for $ 8 but its $ 12 for everyone else, I would not bring my own kids. Plus the animals are in cages its not a petting zoo, its a look throw the bars and see the animals. Also we never got our coloring books we where suppose to get or teacher resources. Plus the $ 2 extra train ride? Lasted 30 seconds don’t waste your time.

I had an issue with my bank card and they could not have been nicer trying to help me figure it out I met the owner and one of her workers both super nice my kids had a blast our pumpkins were awesome the food and drink were awesome Nice place nice people
Donuts are fab

We have been to Carolyn’s Pumpkin Patch several times over the past two years and our 3 year old daughter and her friends love it! We decided to purchase a season ticket this year because our daughter loves going so much. The staff is friendlier during the week than on the weekends more than likely because it’s less busy. There is so much to do that doesn’t cost extra money, playgrounds with huge slides, corn maze, play houses, pig races, petting barn, etc… If you are trying to burn your kids extra energy and have fun for the whole family this is the place for you! Don’t forget to get the Pumpkin Donuts-​awesome!

Don’t go during the week. Not much to do. Plus the animals in the petting zoo look malnourished and sickly. A calf looked like it was sick and dieing, a few of the goats you could see nothing but bone, and more than half the animals were pot of food and water.

It was okay. My grandkids said they liked it they are 9 and 10. They enjoyed petting the animals, I thought I smelled like a barn yard when we left. The price has changed $ 12.00 a piece to get in and if you ride the train it’s an extra $ 3.00, we didn’t ride it. The pumpkin patch was okay, but if you think about it, the river has been on that ground and Lord knows what’s in the soil. Wish we would have gone to a different one, but this one was close.

My daughter’s school went on a field trip here yesterday and I had the pleasure of being a chaperon. We had a great time and the kiddos enjoyed picking their very own pumpkin and playing on the big playground they had there. I would have given it 5 stars, but they seemed unprepared to handle the amount of schools that visited that day. There was a lot of confusion on who would give us a tour, but other than that, we had a great time and I can’t wait to take my 2 year old later this month.

I’m liking this place less each year. Sure, it is a chance for all my kids to be in the same place at the same time and that’s pretty awesome. I remember though the beginning years when I didn’t have to pay $ 10 a person to spend more money on pumpkins.
I could do without the kitschy kountry shtick and go back to the basics when you got on a tractor, picked your pumpkins and went home. I didn’t ask for a theme park. And if we must be honest, at ¼ the cost of World’s of Fun, it hardly offers a fraction of the fun.
How about two entrances? One for just the pumpkin field and another for the shtick? I don’t know, I need to find a new pumpkin patch I guess.

Very disappointed. We took my 11-​month-​old grandson in his stroller for his first pumpkin patch visit this past Monday and it started raining fifteen minutes after we walked in. Since it’s not ideal to push a baby around in the mud and rain, we went to the entrance and asked if we could have a rain check, with my receipt in hand showing we had paid $ 24 sixteen minutes earlier. The woman at the entrance called her supervisor and informed her that we were requesting a rain check, and the supervisor very rudely replied, «Tell them we don’t have a rain policy. We’re open — they can wait it out.» I asked to speak to the supervisor (Giselle) myself, as I wanted to explain that an 11-​month-​old is not really going to be wanting to wait it out for however long the rain might last — and that we weren’t requesting a refund, simply a rain check to come back another time when the weather was better. I was informed that Giselle was «very busy» and couldn’t come talk to me, but that we could wait in the barn or go wait in our car for the rain to stop. I was frustrated, as my receipt clearly showed we had paid literally only fifteen minutes earlier and it was clear that the management couldn’t have cared less. We went to the barn to wait out the rain, and happened to see Giselle sitting at her desk in the corner office in the barn, with her feet propped up on the desk chatting with a co-​worker. Yes, she was very busy. Needless to say, we won’t be returning to Carolyn’s Country Cousins Pumpkin Patch, and we’ll also be letting friends and anyone else know of our experience. Not to mention that the pumpkins are wayyyy overpriced. It made me sad to see that they truly only care about the money.
Another reason we won’t be returning… the animals were kept in extremely cramped conditions; particularly one goat that had a sign in front of it stating that she was elderly and had joint problems and was on medication — yet she was kept in a small pen on concrete, with no hay at all, nor any soft ground to stand or lay down on.

Way over priced! Once you pay $ 10 to get in everything inside cost $. I suspect the good reviews on here are employees or the owner himself (notice their small record of reviews). Owner actually has two LLC’s one for the corn maze and one for the pumpkin patch so make sure you are going in the one you want. There is a firm no refund. The pumpkin patch and corn maze are NEXT to each other and separated by a small fence but the owner wants you to get back in your car and drive 50 ft and re-​park. If you cross the fence someone instructs you to use their parking lot. Then pay another $ 10 to get in to the corn maze. What kind of customer experience is that? THIS PLACE OWES ME MY MONEY BACK. $ 40 (admission x4) + $ 12 (train ride). If you read this far save yourself time and money and go to a pumpkin patch that deserves your business.

First trip & I have to say what a great place for kids of all ages. Beautiful landscape & you truly get into the real Halloween spirit once you visit a place as such. My only complaint would be the prices. You pay $ 10 to get in, our son was free b/​c he was under the age of 2… but then once you’re in the door, all the other activities like riding the train, hay rides, etc COST… so expect to spend a little bit of $, or a lot of money I should say if you are to get hungry or thirsty.
The setting, landscape, and all the neat spots you could stop & take a picture was my favorite part. Another favorite was the musical garden for toddlers. Our son LOVED it & my Mom is thinking of putting one at her home for the grand kids now.
The petting zoo was fun & my son adored being able to feed the goats even at his age.
We stood in line for 20 min or so waiting on pumpkin donuts. WELL WORTH THE WAIT! DELICIOUS! I recommend to anybody going.
I believe it will be our tradition every year with our little man. He loved it & to me the price was worth it for all the smiles that were brought to his face. =)

At first, I was apprehensive about coming because of the negative reviews, but I heard from the locals it was great place to go. Although it was pricey, I loved this pumpkin patch! There is fun for all agess and a great place for families. I recommend going if you’re in the area in the fall!

Our family has a tradition of going to the Pumpkin Patch every single year. We love Carolyn’s because it has a lot of different activities for the kids and interesting and merchandise in their store.
The first thing the kids (now 5 & 7) want to do when we get there is to get some hot apple cider, even in 2012 when we went and it was still 60 degrees. Then it’s always on to the petting zoo. They’re not often exposed to live animals and they love the fact they get to walk right in and get close to and pet and feed the goats, sheep, etc. They love it.
The third part of our Pumpkin Patch tradition is to ride the train. Now the train ride costs extra, it’s not covered in the cost of admission, but I don’t have a problem paying a little extra for the kids to be able to have some extra fun. If I recall the train tickets are $ 2 or $ 3 a piece. But it’s worth it to us.
After the train ride, the search for the perfect 4 pumpkins is on! My kids are very particular and want perfectly round pumpkins, so it takes us forever, but luckily they have so many we always find 4. Our daughter picks out hers and my wife’s and my son picks out his and mine.
Lastly, we go back into the little shop and my wife browses their crafty items and usually is able to find something she likes, while me and the kids are waiting in line to buy the pumpkins. They almost always end up talking me into buying some candy, too.
I would absolutely recommend this Pumpkin Patch to anyone looking for a fun 2 to 3 hours of family time during the fall season. I’ve never thought their costs were too high or the value our family experienced from our visit wasn’t worth the total coin we spent on the visit. I’ve always found the staff very pleasant and helpful. That said, it can get very, very crowed there, so after you select your pumpkins and are ready to leave, be prepared to wait in line for about 10 minutes. We always put our pumpkins against the wall so we’re not holding them all that time (I sit against the wall and guard them and my wife waits in line).
Again, this is a great place to go in the fall season to create fun family memories and traditions. The fun we have is definitely worth the money we spend there.

Huge rip off, don’t waste your time. After you pay the admission fee be ready to spend much more. Most of the attractions are closed five days out of the week. False advertisement and poorly ran. Keep clear of this atrocity.

Stay away!
My first bad impression was at the door when there was no price reduction for children. If they’re two or older they pay the full $ 10.00 admission price. It was $ 30 for us to take our three year old grandaughter.
Once inside they dollar you to death! $ 3.00 per person for a very short train ride, $ 6.00 to fossil dig, $ 5.00 for panning for jewels. The pre-​picked pumpkins were at least $ 10.00. (Should have come free with the admission price, in my opinion!)
The food located in the «café» area was very mediocre and very expensive. The staff behind the counter was extremely unfriendly. The room was huge but offered only a small seating area; (two booths that held two people) forcing us to balance our food while standing. They do not even provide straws for their cider slush; pretty hard to drink a slush without a straw.
BUT, and this is a big issue with me-​the worst part was the fact that they do not provide any bathrooms – porta potty for a three year old? I don’t think so! Seriously, what three year old is not going to have to go to the bathroom? And, this is supposed to be a kid friendly place?
Go to Deanna Rose Farm instead! Wonderful price (free), great accomodations (clean modern bathrooms), and so much more fun!

Seriously…1 $ 8.00 admissions,(cornmaze). One $ 10 admission pumpkin patch. One large park, or it used to be. (being that the Cornmaze is 100 yards from here, and has a different admission entrances).
Don’t go here… Buy your pumpkins somewhere else. They had posted prices on the wall ridiculous and high, I swear I saw this, and when it rang up, it was totally different, cheap, and odd. The whole situation is odd.
This place reminds me of a venderless Raytown Roundup Days. Infact, it used to be free, and combined with one admission if you visited the Cornmaze, something like 15 years ago. Cause I used to buy pumpkins here. They are stuck up, money hungry, and protective of what they have. You pay for an admission, and then you pay for the train to ride it around the park. The hey ride is free. The pumpkins are prepicked, in the pumpkin patch, laying on the ground. I understand, DROUGHT. But nothing is mentioned of this. Hell, I can go to Louisburg and have more fun, than here. For food after the Cornmaze, I can go down to Liberty.
Don’t be tempted by the tiny goats, the cheap pumpkin prices, the food, or pumpkin donuts. While in the Cornmaze, don’t be tempted by the smell of pumpkin spice, or grilled hamburgers. Do the Cornmaze, skip this. I’m not even sure to mark the Good For Kids selection, cause it’s that awful. The stage looks cardboard, with unprofessional people acting dancing on it, while we were there eating. Porta pottys at a park this large, blech. dirty. This place has gone down hill. I needed to wash my hands after I left.

An atrocious disappointment. I understand it costs some bucks to run a place like this, but truly, something’s gotta give. Not at all worth your money, even if you go during their free admission hours. We drove 25 minutes out to Caroyln’s, then paid $ 30 to get in, us and our 3 year old daughter mind you. $ 10 for a 3 year old!!! The first thing I had to do was pee. I tried 3 of their porta pottys, all were beyond filthy and none of them had TP, so I held it. (Tried for 10 minutes to find someone to tell but employees were busy with other patrons and we wanted to get on with our day.) There is not a functioning restroom with running water on this massive piece of property, not one for the patrons anyway. The animals are overfed and tired of over-​sugared children by the afternoon, so if you go later in the day they will be non-​responsive and there goes the $ you spent on a bag of feed. (Luckily a lady in the parking lot gave me their full bag of feed as we were unloading, suffice it to say it went unused.) You can take a VERY dusty «hay ride» (which we did) out to a «staged» pumpkin patch to «pick your own pumpkin» (which we did not do), and got a massive hate stare from the tractor driver when we (and another family) didn’t get off. And when I say staged, I mean just that. These were pumpkins scattered out in a plowed down corn field from what I could tell. Classy. So after our dusty hayride we were thirsty. My daughter wanted lemonade (which we couldn’t find any at either of the concessions locations, one of which is a sweaty-​swealtering non air-​conditioned barn) and the water was $ 3 a bottle. So we decided we’d rather die of dehydration. Train– $ 3 a person. Mining– $ 5 per person. Riding the antique tractor carousel– $ 1. Now my daughter liked the playground equipment but we could have taken her to one of the several dozen playgrounds in KC and splurged on a fancy dinner with the money we would have saved. Kinda pointless. She wanted to ride the train so we did then we left. We weren’t even there an hour and spent $ 39 on; stinky TP-​less poop laden Porta Pots, listless animals, generic playground equipment, a dusty hayride with a driver with a chip on his shoulder and a 3 minute train ride. I wish I didn’t have to write a bad review for this place, they seem like great people and the history & location gives it the opportunity for great potential, but I’m sorry, it’s commercialized all to hell and we won’t EVER be back. It’s about as worth your money as that $ 10, grainy, out of focus shot of your kid screaming on Santa’s lap at the mall is. You want an amazing worth while petting zoo? Check out Deanna Rose Farmstead out in OVP KS. You want an amazing worth while pumpkin patch, where you can pick your own out in the patch they actually grew in and can play with like a million kittens for FREE… try Pumpkin’s Etc. in Platte City. Please don’t drive out to Carolyn’s then pay for bells and whistles you won’t use. :-(
