This was the home of Adlai Stevenson, Illinois’ governor from 1949 – 1953 and Democratic candidate for President in 1952 and 1956. The grounds of the home are open for walking from dawn to dusk. One hour tours are offered on Sundays during the summer. Advanced reservations are required and there is a charge.
This Lake County Forest Preserve is south of Rt. 60 at 25 200 N. St. Mary’s Road on the west side of the road. The home is set a long way back from the road so look for the Lake County Forest Preserve District sign at the entrance to the gravel driveway.
