Kauai Humane Society Blooming Tails

Cute little store. The animal lover in me loves the concept. 100 percent of all sales goes to the humane society. One of the workers wasn’t very friendly. I asked about the store and she just rattled off info about the humane society. I felt like she had said it a million times and I’m sure she has but there was no pride or enthusiasm in her voice. Shortly after someone told her it was time for her break so perhaps she was hangry (hungry/​angry). I do end up finding some good deals. A Dolce & Gabbana eyeglass case for $ 4 and a Shaun T work out DVD for $ 3. My boyfriend got a Prada eyeglass shammy for free and I got a Burberry one. Luckily hangry girl didn’t check us out the young lady that did was very nice. I Will definitely be back.

Love this place! Got a great pair of name brand jeans for $ 1.00. Also bought lots of things to refurbish a lanai. Best of all, proceeds go to the precious animals at the Humane Society.

They have a nice selection of clothes, but the manager of the store is extremely rude. She is never smiling and today had a terrible experience with her. My friend and I brought items to donate and many of these things were my friends fathers who had just passed away. She greeted us in a harsh tone with «what’s in that bag?» She then went on to say, «is that really what’s in the bag?» And then, «is that it! Not once did she say thank you or goodbye or anything! I think the humane society should really consider hiring someone who is at least personable for this position. It did not make us feel like we would want to donate to them again and this is sad because we want to support the animals at the Humane Society

Liked the old location better. Items were more organized, labeled and sorted well. This shop has stuff all over. Many without prices and when you take the item to the cashier she’s trying to make a deal with you. Only one person actually on the floor and when she’s asked something she’s quick to say she’s new and she doesn’t know.
Maybe I’ll wait a while before coming back here…

Awesome place! It is still open they moved in May of 2014. They are at 3178 Kuhio HWY same lot as the Shell gas station across the street from Pizza Hut.

Wonderful shop! Outstanding bargains. Found a brand new, top name, British jacket, with tags still on it.
Very friendly staff, an great use for funds raised.

I love to shop thrift shops as always walk away with a few unique bargains – and if the shop is for charity, even better! This one is perfect– clean, organized, nice people. Walked out with some great books shoes and surfer clothes. Nice selection of Hawaiian shirts. Happy to think I helped homeless animals too.

This is one of my favorites on island. The manager, Donna, and I were talking story about how she continually restocks, organizes and maintains the store. The first room is filled with clothes (they also organize the women’s shirts in colors).
In the back of that room is a Keiki area (children area).
The other huge room is all house wares. Amazing store a wonderful manager and great volunteers like Susan really put this store on your must see list:)

ALOHA! Everyone at this THRIFT Store is really nice. I love this place. Whenever I visit Kauai, I have to come here. There are great finds. When people move to Kauai, they get rid of their Patagonia Winter wear — or their snow jackets, and blankets. I live in the snow, and this place is where I stock up! If you are a good thrift store shopper, you can find GEMS here! Once I got a Sunlight Alarm clock — it really helped me to wake up when it was still dark out! The thrift store is clean, and well organized. I really appreciate being able to find the sizes and I love leaving with a new wardrobe. 5-​star feedback! Mahalo Humane Society!

Perhaps the saddest thrift store I’ve encountered in a while, the Kauai Humane Society Thrift Shop is a thrift shop that really needs half of its inventory to head to the dump.
The shop is divided into two spaces — half clothing, shoes, and accessories and the other half to housewares. The clothing selection varies across age and gender (baby, women, men; swimsuits, shoes, and, uh, panties?!) and seemed a little picked over but that inventory likely changes most frequently.
It’s really the «housewares» section that made me want to pull out the garbage sack. Partial boxes of toys, even decorative-​esque cardboard boxes were on sale. And while Graham found a small collection of Korean and Japanese records, many of those were so water damaged and molded that the records couldn’t be removed from their sleeves. A quarter of that half of the store was also devoted to cassette tapes and VHS, as well as a small electronics case with palm pilots that roamed the earth with the dinosaurs. Certainly there’s an argument to be made for «antique» and «retro», however, I think a shop ought to cut its losses at partial and practically decomposing items.
I’ve heard that finds may be had at the Humane Society Thrift Shop from time to time so I’ll check back in again (and maybe be proven wrong when someone does buy that 1994 palm pilot), but I’m not hopeful.
Perhaps the only demographic I could recommend the shop to? Those in search of paperback books and the would-​be boogie boarder. A few boogie boards, priced under $ 5, were in stock and seemed untouched for a while (with rentals starting at $ 5/​week and new boogie boards priced higher, this seems to be a great buy). As for the paperbacks, there seemed to be a good selection of things I’d call «beach reads.» Not necessarily the newest titles but an abundance nonetheless.
