I love, love, love Chay J’s!!! Chay’s pralines are so buttery and delicious! These pralines are MUCH better than any pralines from those stores in the mall. I buy at least 2 pralines each week at the Gwinnett Super Food Truck Sunday event. Today, I bought 2 pralines and 2 pecan pies. The pies are just as wonderful and tasty as the pralines. I am hooked on Chay Js! I look forward to next week, as I have already eaten one of my pralines and a pecan pie! Metro Atlanta is much sweeter now that Chay Js is here!

I first expereinced Chay J’s at the Atlanta Food Truck Park. Since that first visit, I have been back several times, just to get her creole pretzels. They are a praline covered pretzels that will make your tongue jump out of your mouth and slap you in the face they are so good. Go to their website and order as much of Chay J’s candied goodness as you can… you won’t be disappointed!!!

Chay J’s, stylized as «Chayj’s» on the truck, is a Creole candy food truck. The owner, Chay, is from New Orleans and used to work for her father’s candy store outside of NOLA in Metairie. The«J» in Chay J’s refers to her brother Jason, who also works in the business. I ran into Chay J’s at the Atlanta Food Truck Park at I-75 and Howell Mill Rd. As I was perusing each truck’s menu, Chay personally welcomed me to her truck to sample various confections. These included Creole pretzels, popcorn, pecans, pralines, and peanut brittle. I’m not a big fan of pretzels. I think they can be a pretty boring snack, but Chay has coated her pretzels in an addictive caramel-toffee layer. In fact, most of her goodies are coated in this sweet confection. It’s smooth and rich. The popcorn comes in four different flavors and the pecans come in a couple different flavors. The pecans are known as «Pecan Crunch» and you can order the pecans coated in caramel-toffee flavor or banana flavor. Examples of pricing(IIRC) included: a bag of pretzels for $ 6(or 2 for $ 10), a bag of pecan crunch(creole or banana) for $ 7(or 2 for $ 12), and pralines for $ 2.50 each. Service was outstanding. Chay and her brother J were very nice and hospitable. Chay J’s truck is painted in teal with a Bourbon St. theme complete with NOLA-style fleur-de-lis(lily), lamp post, street sign, French Quarter balcony, and gold, purple, and green beads. If you’re at the food truck park and looking to satisfy that sweet tooth, definitely give Chay J’s a whirl. You can also find her candies at various restaurants and stores around town(e.g. Crawfish Shack). Check her web site( ) for locations.

Chay had her stand set up at the ATL food truck park. I noticed it but I wasn’t particularly drawn to it. Then her brother grabs our attention to ask if we had samples. We hadn’t and he told us it’s about the change our lives. I almost wanted to roll my eyes but I can’t resist the idea of a free sweet, so why not? She gave us the creole pretzels, which are homemade buttery caramel with pecans baked onto the pretzels. One bite and I was sold… the perfect balance of sweet and salt with no single ingredient overwhelming the overall product. I bought a bag but sort of regretted not getting another since I polished it off before I got home! Since I don’t live locally I’ll have to put in special orders to have these delivered home! It’s definitely the best thing I have discovered in ATL so far!
