Family tradition to stop in here and get ice cream. Today I tried the cobbler, right choice! Such a cute place we love coming here.

The store owner(or atleast shift manager) was very rude. My girlfriend and I visited lincoln city for the first time. We ate lunch after whale watching in Depoe bay. When we got back to Lincoln city we decided to look up local ice cream shops. When we entered«elanor’s undertow» we were first asked if we already ate lunch. When we said yes she responded well why didn’t you eat here? I explained we were in a different city and she began to drill me with 15 questions. What did you do, what charter did you go with, who was your captain, what was the name of your boat. What time did we go. When i responded she did not engage in any conversation. She simply asked the next question as if she wanted to catch me lying to her. While my girlfriend decided what she wanted the ladies were very impatient. They sat there giving her dirty looks while i stood back and watched. She should be thanking us for buying your ice cream. Rather than questioning us. We had such an amazing time at the coast. Every store/restaurant had great products and were reasonably priced. We did not enjoy Elanor’s Undertow. We will not be back.

After looking for a licence to fish and crab every one directed us to come here… Well for what ever reason the closed for a day… looks like we won’t be fishing. Or returning to Lincoln City

the menu is pretty limited, but we both decided on the cod fish and chips with cole slaw, although i had extra cole slaw instead of the ‘chips.’ everything there is ‘baked’ and not deep fried and we wondered what that would mean for the taste of our meal. it was good. the cole slaw was delicious. the fish was good. the fries were different, but good. we were favorably impressed with the small operation. the cook was up front when we left wanting to know how everything was… a nice touch.

Finally stopped in Elanor’s Undertow for some desert. We always stay next door at the Looking Glass Inn, but usually missed them when they are open(hours are from 11:30 am — 5:00 pm I think). BF and I wanted some afternoon ice cream so he got a Hot Fudge Sundae(yum) and I ended up getting Marionberry Cobbler A la Mode. As much as I love ice cream, I can’t pass up a good cobbler(truly my downfall…). My cobbler was excellent — not too sweet, but just the right amount of berries and crust. The scoop of Tillamook Vanilla ice cream added to the side was perfect. Warm berry cobbler with a scoop of vanilla ice cream… seriously one of my fav deserts ever. BF scarfed his sundae down pretty quickly so I’ll take his word on how good it was. It sure looked delicious… Décor is kitchy(kids will love it) and the service was incredibly friendly. Overall a great place to stop by for some ice cream after going to the beach. They also serve hamburgers and hot dogs, so we may give that a try next time.

This is a cool place! The food was mediocre at best, but everything else about this place rocks! There are a few vintage tables for dining in the front. has a very small town diner feel to it. The back is where all the cool stuff is. They have a lot of old school games i.e. ms pac man, street fighter and air hockey. The games are all just 25 cents! makes for a fun little pit stop. The staff here is super nice and friendly. The décor if this place is also very funky, in a hip way. Their food is not their strong point. It is a great option to Mo’s, across the street and always packed. Their burgers are put into some sort of conveyor belt cooker and the fries tasted sort of fishy. Don’t come here for the food, come here for some ice cream, the game and fun times.

Great clam chowder and halibut fish and chips. Great staff, friendly. Decided to try this place instead of going to Moe’s across the street(long line waiting to get seated) and so glad we did. Someone said they had great clam chowder because they actually put clams in it. It was thick with clams and potatoes. Yummmm!

High noon on a sunny weekend, only two other customers. Order at the counter, service very friendly. Food order took a very long time to prepare, which maybe accounts for the extremely dry burger patty(probably previously frozen, and they advertise«Nothing is Fried», so guess the burger was nuked?), and the bun was either old or over heated: the bottom bun crumbled. The bacon was thick sliced and well cooked, one shingle of American cheese, which was shriveled up and also on the dry side. Served with a tomato slice, a single leaf of green lettuce, and a very small bag of potato chips. The condiments at a small«do-it-yourself’ station with mayo, mustard, ketchup, irregularly chopped and desiccated red onions that looked like they had been sitting out for way too long, and two types of pickle slices. Clean, vinyl covered tables. Tons of arcade games in the back, one of which clanged loudly, regularly, and annoyingly the entire time I was there. Curious to me, there were several large glass cases selling a variety of items that you might see either at a garage sale or antique mall? Seemed so out of place— Did have a limited selection of Tillamook Ice Cream and some salt water taffy… I really don’t like to leave negative reviews, but Eleanor’s was disappointing, as just a few changes could turn this friendly, funky little place into a destination, not an afterthought… bummer…

They highlight«absolutely no deep frying». That’s because everything is frozen and microwaved! Seriously! If you’re getting ice cream its a great place. If you’re getting food you’d be better off brown bagging your own lunch. The game room is filled with storage boxes and old stuff. It feels more like a someone’s basement than a game room. As long as you’re not expecting a lot its still a fun place.

I took my family here based on a recommendation from the the owner of 101 Burgers. After an amazing lunch with him we walked down the street to get some ice cream. The place is a lot of fun, lots of decorations, mermaids, arcade games and of course, ice cream. The employees were very friendly and the I’ve cream was great. We ordered single scoops and they were way bigger than I expected! We then took a relaxing stroll along the beach which is right next to this fine establishment. Apparently Eleanor is in her 90’s and wasn’t there but we met one of her good friends who has known her for decades and decided to help her run the place after she retired. Cool gal :)

We came in for a quick lunch but had the surprise of a lifetime. The food was ok, nothing to go crazy over. The service was friendly; this was obviously a family run place and they treated you like an old friend. I had the fish and chips, my wife had the bacon cheese burger. The cheese was a slice of processed cheese, which to us is a bit of a faux pas when building a burger(cheddar is better!). The fish was very similar to what you would get from the frozen food isle in the grocery store. The fries were very similar to those at A&W. The food would only get about 3 – 3.5 stars from me. The real surprise, and the true qualifier for the five star rating was the Marion Berry cobbler(a la mode) that I ordered for dessert. I saw it go to a few tables near us and had to try it. WOW!!! That was by far the best desert I’ve ever had in any restaurant, anywhere, ever! My hat’s off to the maker; this is a world class dish! If you like blackberry or mulberry anything, do not pass this up; you’ll be sad you did. Don’t eat it all though; be sure to leave a piece for me in case I’m in the neighbourhood.

Looks like this place is now competing more heavily with Mo’s. In the past — when I used to go there in the 80s and 90s — it was more or less an afterthought. But now that Mo’s seems to be going downhill, it may be picking up more speed. I’m very glad they are still open. I always loved the name Eleanor’s Undertow… sounds like the name of a graphic novel. As I have only eaten ice cream/dessert there, and not any of the burgers/chowder/etc., I can’t quite evaluate the place as a whole. But it is a very fun place for kids especially. Next time I’m in Taft(is it still called that?) I will definitely be going there again.

We had the greatest experience today at Eleanor’s undertow, the food and the service was fantastic… Very nice friendly people(I love nice people) one of the owners took time to come out to visit with and give us the history behind the restaurant, their fish is cooked by convection so its not oily at all, I had a great Halibut sandwich which was amazing and their clam chowder is delicious. It has malt shop atmosphere with game area, pool tables, video games and a jukebox. What a wonderful place!

This place has excellent healthy food — in that they dont use fryers — they have hot air french fries which are deliious and amazingly crispy. The chowder is excellent — the meal is better than MOEs across the parking lot. However, the menu is simple and not vast like MOEs which us 90% fried. Dont let the weathered building put you off — this is a very good value in Lincoln City.

We were on Hwy 101 doing the Spring Break thing with the kids and we were on a hunt for ice cream. Not Diary Queen ice cream. No siree. The kids were adamant that we find one of those local swanky kinds of ice cream shops that one can only find at the beach. The shops on 101 weren’t helpful as the only ice cream place was closed. «Random» as one shop owner replied when I asked why it was closed in the middle of spring break. My daughter remembered this place across from Mo’s. A five minute car ride later, and we were standing outside this candy cane striped building with a door that wouldn’t quite close all the way. The name intrigues me as I think perhaps we were caught in a time machine disguised as an undertow. Entering reminded me of scenes in a movie with the old 1950’s soda fountain shops. This one may even have had some of the same furniture and equipment from the ‘50s. The folks working behind the counter also seemed to be of that era. Working with a smile and«what can I get for you, honey?» greeting was enough to make us all want to stay. I don’t know if that was Elinore, but she was a kick. Four ice cream cones, one milkshake, and order of fries and a cup of chowder later, we were all glad we remembered this place. We weren’t in the mood for arcade games, but we could easily have been entertained for hours if we had. We even bought a few funny greeting cards, but left the mood rings for someone else’s treasure.

I’m posting under this name because the other Unilocal posts have the name mispelled. It’s Eleanor’s. And you should look for it! A find for a family looking for a quick bite and ice cream in Lincoln City! Located on the slightly ramshackle side on SW51st in the Taft beachfront(the definitely non-Mo’s side), it’s a corner café with burgers, fish and chips, and ice cream. Half of the space is seating at small tables. The other half, behind gift shelves, has pool tables and arcade games. You order at the counter. No alcohol served, very welcoming to kids. The clam chowder is outstanding — light and imbued with garlic and bacon. The fish and chips looked great but I was in the mood for a cheeseburger which was perfectly good and a bargain at about $ 5. You dress the burger yourself at the counter — be sure to add the sweet pickles! The same family has run it for over 30 years. They’re extremely friendly and proud of their business.

*Great alternative to, Mo’s(across the street) if you’ve got kids and/or teens. Eleanor’s is a lot cheaper and offers a great family vibe compared to, Mo’s. This place is a family run business and has been for the past 25+ years. Started by, Roy and Eleanor, and now being carried on by their kids and grand kids. Food: –hamburgers/cheeseburgers & fries –fish & chips –hot dogs –variety of ice creams –salt water taffy & more! Entertainment: –old school arcade games –pool tables –the BEST air hockey table known-to-man! & a great place to hang after a walk on the beach!!! *I’ve loved this place since I was 8 years old and now being 33… I still enjoy playing the same games(and I truly mean the same games) as a kid!
