There are times when you have a certain idea or conception in your mind in terms of how something should be and regardless of the authenticity it still becomes what you prefer. Philosophy lesson aside the food here is what I have always thought Chinese food should look and taste like. I do not know if that helps the reader out but I can tell you that I really like this place, the food is good, the price is right, and you get a lot for your dollar. Recently trying a vegetarian diet out I go for the vegetable lo mein and I can tell you that it hits the mark even without meat.

We always get egg rolls. They are very crunchy. Other meals have some room for improvement. Decent eats for a night that you don’t feel like cooking.

Used to be so good, but the last 3 times I’ve eaten in or take out the food has been burnt. Very sad because I used to really like it. And won’t be going anymore

Nothing bad to say. I live a few blocks from here so whenever I get the urge for Chinese this is the place I go even though Cathy house is on my corner. The people are nice the food is good. You should try it.

This was the most bland Chinese food I think I have ever eaten. They give you WAY to much food, you could feed an army. The chicken was super bland the almond sauce was like a gooey tasteless salt less gravy mess. The egg roll was the only good thing I’ve eaten from here. The fried rice, also a tasteless salt less mush. Where is the quality? to much food and no quality.

Convenient, fast service, good food. What more can you ask for? The portions are generous. My family of 4 can eat off of 2 combination plates and still have left overs. I don’t dine in often. I call ahead and order take out on days I don’t feel like cooking. I’ve never ordered anything I didn’t like. Almond chicken, sweet and sour chicken, szechuan chicken, beef lo-mein, and pepper steak to name a few.

Ordered the general chicken and it was just hard dough no meat hardly and very chewy I will never go back to this place

I love this place and come whenever I can. I can hear everyone in the restaurant right now talking about the generous portion sizes and great flavors. Their egg roll is hands down the best. Combos are the way to go. A great price and a TON of food.

Where else can you get a bunch of tasty food for cheap? Hong Kong Inn is definitely our family’s choice for good Chinese food. Love love love the vegetable lomein. The food and service are excellent, and it’s quiet in there.

Not quite sure what makes me love this place… Quick, attentive service & my favorite egg rolls around town. Their entrees are second class to their egg rolls which are the crispiest, heartiest that I’ve tasted. Add on the plum sauce and you will surely want a second one. I’ve been none to pleased with certain entrees but their sweet and sour and szechuan are safe bets. I’ve definitely had better rice but again… those EGGROLLS.

I ordered General Tso’s Chicken from Hong Kong Inn last night. It gave me food poisoning, I spent the entire night in pain because of it. In regards to the food itself, the chicken was bland and flavorless, and had absolutely no sauce to it. It fell apart upon picking it up. The rice, much like the chicken, was also bland and flavorless. The food was lukewarm at best and very disappointing seeing as I have been to Hong Kong Inn previously and ordered the exact same thing with better results.

I really didn’t care for Chinese food too much in the past, but since this is one of my friends favorite place’s, I decided to go, he told me he would find something I liked. And by golly he did, I believe it was«sweet & sour pork» & I actually loved the egg rolls, dipped in that sweet type sauce.

Average at best. The reviews suggest food with a «kick» to it, I did not experience this. Bland food, tasteless fried rice, chewy/stringy egg rolls. If this is the«greatest» Downriver has to offer, it is a huge disappointment. New to the area I was looking for a go-to chinese place, this will not be it, the search continues…

I’m in love with this Chinese Place. Not because it is minutes away from me but because their food is always done right. Their dishes are not overly spicy but do have a certain kick to them. They do not skimp on portions and even throw in a few free extras from time to time. I love their Lo Mein noodles. LOVETHEM! The noodles aren’t too greasy, come with huge, fresh veggies, and just the right amount of spice. I have tried several dishes here and every time, they get it right. They might not be the best Chinese American place in the history of the world but they are the most consistent. I will be back here and I will gain 10 pounds. Yum! P. S. Don’t let the funky parking lot fool ya. Go in and give them a try. Just be sure not to park in front of the beer/wine store. Those folks are crazy about their parking spaces. You’ll see what I mean when you go check this place out.

Sometimes it feels like most Chinese restaurants in Michigan have tubes leading to the same kitchen. Inoffensive food served by very friendly people. All the courses came out quickly with huge hot portions. Sorry but the eggrolls were just okay. My Szechuan shrimp was good, but only because i asked for extra spicy(came out mild plus). Vegetable lo men was greasy but tasty. There were only a couple vegetarian dishes on the limited menu which featured mostly repetitive classics. For instance Kung Po Chicken, Kung Po Beef, Kung Po Shrimp, Kung Po Chicken and Shrimp, etc.

Best place for Chinese! Carry out or dine in! I have been a fan of this place since it opened. Friendly staff, clean restaurant, and most importantly amazing food! I always get the egg drop soup. It is only made better by the sugar wontons that are served with all soups, yum! Great egg rolls too! I have tried several entrees here and have never been disappointed. Most recently, my husband ordered the almond chicken and it was crispy and delicious! I usually order the crab wontons as my meal(called«crab cheese» on their menu) they serve it with sweet and sour sauce and it is just divine! My husband and I will definitely be eating here for years to come!

I’ve gone in to Hong Kong Inn for a carryout on more than one occasion. They come through in a clutch! Honestly, the place down the street was closed(for good!?) and since I’ve been to HKI before, I knew to just hit them up for my Chinese food craving for the night. Major props on the food — it’s pretty darned delicious, the portions are huge(I have leftovers plated up for lunch AND dinner today, not to mention, I had a small amount for breakfast this morning — I don’t like to throw away food!) The parking lot is… well, it leaves much to be desired. The restaurant is in a small strip neighbored by a liquor store and possibly some other tiny business. So, the parking is right in front and you just kinda pile your car in the best way you can. Or just park across the side street. There are 3 bullet holes covered with tape on the front glass. o_O I’ve not dined in, but the inside dining room doesn’t look too shabby. They seemed to have quite a few full tables when we were in there placing our order. I was happy with what I ordered and would go back for sure.

I’m mostly just seconding Allison here, actually. Good service, and while I’m not an expert on Chinese food by any means, it’s probably the best place for it I’ve had in the area. It’s also deceptively large — when you drive past it you might get the idea it’s a little hole-in-the-wall, but when you go in, it actually feels pretty spacious and nice.

This is a great Downriver Chinese restaurant! Their portions, like most Chinese places, are HUGE. The meals are served with white rice, soup, eggroll and Chinese tea if you ask for it. They have really quick service; your soup’s on your table within 5 minutes of ordering. Their dining area is large with plenty of booths and some tables. To add to their charm, they just recently went smoke-free. Hong Kong Inn is a nice place to grab a good plate of Chinese food for a good price. Its location may put you off, but the food will bring you back.
