I went to Bread and Cup this morning with a friend. While the food was fine, the service was absolutely horrible. After paying the cashier a $ 10 for a $ 7.59 meal, I did not receive my change. The cashier girl was scatterbrained and all over the place, dropping carryout boxes and failing to pay attention to customers. I finally caught her attention and asked her for my change, to which she responded, «Sure you can have your change.» She didn’t even apologize for not giving it to me in the first place. Then, my friend and I could not find a seat anywhere and were forced to sit at the counter by the food prep. There we saw the boy who was preparing sandwiches. He had an apparent cold and runny nose, yet was touching all the bread for the sandwiches with his bare hands. He was not wearing gloves as he touched the food people would soon be eating. I understand gloves are not required, but when it comes to dealing with ready-to-eat foods such as sandwiches, they most definitely are. It was quite frankly hard to sit at the counter and not watch as the boy wrapped his bare fingers around each piece of bread. After twenty minutes had passed, we still had not gotten our food. I walked over to the main seating area and found a man walking around with both my friend and I’s meals. I told him we were at the counter because there was no available seating(at the time we ordered). He quickly responds by pointing to a few available tables, «There’s one there… and there… and there.» I was extremely frustrated because while there were clearly tables now available, there weren’t twenty minutes ago. He continued, «So you just want to stay there or what?» I found his attitude to be rude and impolite, not how a server should behave at all. We finished our meal and were happy to get out. Overall, the service was terrible.

Fresh, filling, and delightful, Bread and Cup is a good change of pace. They make an effort to use local and fresh ingredients, and sometimes you might have to wait a bit for your food after ordering, but the wait is worth it. Come here when you want a break from the stale menus of chain restaurants.

We were greeted by a very nice man at the counter, he was patient with my friend and I as it was our first time. The prices are very reasonable and the food was great! My friend and I sat and caught up for a while and it was a nice environment for it! I will for sure be back!!! Sooo good! I’m craving it already

Food was adequate. The soup was tepid and the curry tuna needed more salt. The service is less than impressive. Was served my food and then was never talked to again. I noticed lots of people had to come up to the bar and wait 5 to 6 mins to just get a refill. The lunch crowd was minimal. Did not even get a thanks for coming in. Makes me wonder if visited the same place that people gave this place four or five stars. Not impressed, glad I did not leave a tip.

Bread and Cup is a cozy find among the hustle and bustle of Downtown Lincoln. Offering both brunch and a full menu you are likely to find something here that you love. The seating area is not large with a capacity of about 30 — but you order at the counter so if there is a wait you can still order before finding a spot. On this trip I went for the breakfast pizza which was made with a delicious sourdough crust that complimented the white sauce and toppings perfectly. I prefer my breakfast pizza with the toppings layered thinly, evenly and held together with cheese and eggs. These topping seemed to be placed on top post baking which keeps everything fresh and yummy but makes it less of a pizza. I’ve previously tried several salads here and they are always huge and delicious and served with fresh bread. Have never been disappointed. They always seem to have a special going on as well so read the signs when you walk in!

Lunch food here is really tasty and the space is very cool. We tried a market meal which was fun but the service was very slow and the pricing was very high for the serving sizes.

I must have caught them on their worst night ever. The service was good and the atmosphere was decent however, the food was not good at all. I originally ordered the beef short ribs and it looked great however, The beef was extremely fatty and it was cold too(less than room temp). I told the server and he offered another dish. I then ordered the risotto, and it was undercooked and bland. The brussels sprouts however were excellent and the IPA beer that I ordered was what was good too. While the service was cordial, polite and friendly I was still charged full price for the original entrée which was awful. I will absolutely not visit this restaurant again.

The cinnamon roll was delicious. It is cinnamony and tender on the inside with a cinnamon toast style crispy topping. I’ve never had a cinnamon roll like it. It was perfect and a great surprise!

Everything was excellent! No long review from me this time. Food, drink, dessert, and service were excellent. Our party of three had the Zolo Malbec with a bread, cheese, and apple butter appetizer. Then two of us had the BBQ pork sandwich while the third had the risotto and sausage. Both were excellent! For dessert we had chocolate mousse and cheese cake. We will go back and we highly recommend this place.

I ordered the porklandia, cinnamon roll and black coffee. First off, coffee was black and dark which is fantastic. Porklandia had two small slices of biscuits, chorizo, pulled pork, bratwurst with lots gravy on top. This plate is definitely not a normal breakfast. The pulled pork was flavorless and came as white as the gravy. The gravy was bland. The whole dish was not balanced in term of meat to carb ratio. The cinnamon roll was nice with a creamy butter sauce on the side. There was too much sugar crumble on top, making this dish extremely sweet! This place is mostly self service, I had to constantly go inside to ask for hot sauce, get coffee refill, get napkins, water, etc. I came in for breakfast to be served, not expecting to expend so much energy without food early in the morning.

I can’t say enough about how wonderful this restaurant and food is. The fresh baked bread is fantastic(only $ 3), the kale salad and finally the Brussels sprouts are equally yummy. All are AMAZING! The kale salad is warm — what a nice surprise. The food is fresh and very tasty. I went on a Tuesday night when they have $ 4 glasses of wine and nice choices. A wonderful experience!

Great atmosphere but the food was a bit disappointing. I ordered the vegetable sandwich which was overall very mushy, I think due to the Brussels sprouts which must not have been on the fresh side, and lacked flavor. My husband got a grilled cheese, they have several flavors, which was solid and we split a peanut butter and apple butter sandwich which was pretty delicious. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing, but this place left us a bit disappointed.

A classic Lincoln eatery with great food for every meal of the day. My family will occasionally come to town for dinner, and this is one of the few places you can get a great dessert in the Haymarket at 930 on a week day evening. Their menu changes occasionally, but everything is always well done. The owners are great folks who are engaged in their community.

There are cities known for their brunch, and then, well, there’s Lincoln. Despite this relatively small city’s lack of reputation, let me tell you something: citizens of Portland, OR, San Francisco, CA, or Washington, DC would pretty well kill for access to this wonderful location, awesome staff, and incredibly simple-but-wonderful take on a hipster brunch spot. The décor screams re-purposed warehouse — a clear sign of good things to come. The staff were not only kind and attentive with the coffee pot, but also gave us a free cinnamon roll«for the road», as we were driving cross-country — on both coasts, this would be considered bordering on insane. The apple butter here is something from the heavens… lighter and with just a bit more cinnamon than I’m used to. I believe I began putting it on my perfectly-cooked eggs at one point. My corned beef hash was both filling and just the right mix of fat and lean meat. The farm-to-table concept certainly added to the overall appeal, but I certainly didn’t taste any happiness in my corned beef. Who knows, maybe the brine removes that flavor profile. My partner had the biscuits and gravy — a Portland staple if there ever was one — complete with whole sausage gravy, I hear it was«very tasty». She’s had MORE than her fair share of this staple dish, so I think I’ll take that as a ringing endorsement. A mixture of self-and-staff service, it took us a minute to figure out what was going on. Once we did, we were very happy to have stumbled upon this little gem.

This is a cool place! We had the bread board sampler(I only liked the hummus, but my wife liked the apple, butter and tomato spread, too) and they picked out some aged cheddar and AWESOME salami for us. We split one of their chicken, avocado and provolone grilled cheese, which was awesome, as well(although the Curry salad side dish wasn’t all that good). The highlights were the bread, which was seriously delicious, and the selection of Belgian Trappist beer, especially Rochefort, which is hard to come by, especially in a restaurant, and is delicious. My wife’s resling was also great. The food we had here was skillfully curated, which in my opinion is more difficult but also more rewarding than good that is skillfully created.

I visit Bread and Cup every time I visit Lincoln. Service lags during the weekend brunch(20ish minute wait for food). The fresh, local ingredients are inspired! My table ordered the sausage and biscuits, ‘pig in a blanket’, and corned beef with breakfast potatoes. The food is always incredible even if service is slightly distracted and seating space limited.

Great breakfast spot! Bloody Mary’s were the least exciting of the things we consumed– not the best but got the job done! Hubby had the porklandia — which could have fed us both! Meat, meat and more meat with every layer we worked our way through. Finally threw in the towel but already look forward to leftovers. I had the breakfast pizza which was also good — some kind of buttery cheesy goodness near the crust you won’t want to miss. Only complaint– wish I had more time for a glass of wine on the patio, a great place to spend time!

A precious find in what is a very boisterous part of town. This is the place you want to come to when you have some time to linger with good friends over good food. The atmosphere is low key as you order and pay before finding a seat. The staff are definitely friendly, if still trying to get their internal systems and structures together. We dined there three mornings in a row on our stay in Lincoln and twice they forgot to bring out something we had ordered(and paid for). That minor inconvenience aside, their menu boasta some realmy great options from a small breakfast served with either apples or tomatoes of a lovely biscuit sandwich. Must haves: Cinnamon rolls with Carmel Spiced oatmeal, with or without carmel Toast with Apple butter Small or large breakfast Cheese plates Minor suggestion to the restaurant: the smoothies are yummy in their own right and don’t need additional sugar.

A hidden gem in the Haymarket. It’s a wonderful local business with a small but delectable menu for brunch, lunch and dinner. The dinner menu changes nightly based on seasonal items. I went with a friend for brunch and the food was quick and tasty. i had coffee(which is locally sourced from The Mill), Eggs Benedict(with pork loin) and she had a breakfast burger which was a fried egg, sausage and thick bacon with a brioche bun and all of the accoutrements you would expect with a burger. Highly recommended! I can’t wait to go back and try dinner and have a drink or locally brewed beer!
