Came to Lincoln for my niece’s baby shower. In the evening we found ourselves at the Hay Market. First of all the Hay Market is amazing in it’s own right. We decided on Buzzard Billy’s. From the moment we got there the staff took excellent care of us. I asked if I could have the mushroom gravy on the ribeye. The waitress checked with the chef and the answer was, «yes». I had the rib eye. It was draped over a mound of garlic potatoes and really it was perfection. The atmosphere was so comfortable and the restaurant had interesting décor. armadillos on the ceiling fans and a collection of some of the best beer signs in the midwest. Our group had great conversation, we didn’t have to yell to hear each other. I recommend Buzzard Billy’s for a «great» casual dining experience.

Good amount of food for the price! Great atmosphere and good for our large group. We went in last Saturday around 7:00pm and didn’t have to wait long for a place to sit. We shared all of our dishes so I would recommend: the tilapia, catfish, and alligator! Definitely check out the alligator with their spicy mustard. It was delicious! Cheers!

We hardly go any place else in the Haymarket! Never had a bad experience here with service and the food is AWESOME! Extensive menu selection, always able to try something new — every time, it seems to get better and better. Best Cajun food I’ve had outside of the South. Just can’t say enough how out of this world the food is. Must try! Can’t wait to come again!

The food is good. Not as good as it used to be but still good. The waitresses are nice. The staff at the front is HORRIBLE though. Terrible at accommodating any group beyond 2 – 4 Max. Also, they’re rude and unhelpful. Will possibly return if some of those problems are cleaned up. Waste of a formerly good restaurant. The older lady at the front is extremely rude every time. Should have a chat with the manager, very poor customer service.

I didn’t find the food to be anything special(however the homemade jalapeño ranch is amazing), but I give higher marks for service and ambiance. We stopped in after the spring game and it was such a fun atmosphere with a lively crowd of husker fans, students and more. We were initially told the wait would be close to 40 minutes but we’re sat within 20. From there, our waitress was attentive, friendly and timely, which can be a challenge with an extra 60k in the area for the game. The haymarket district is such a great area you can’t help but have a good time and buzzard Billy’s adds to the great atmosphere.

I immediately discount any establish that sells alligator meat… there is no way to make it taste good. Also, the taps are totally predictable. Nice, urban patio.

Fairly good Cajun food(for Lincoln Nebraska). I usually get the blackened catfish whenever I come here and I’m not a big catfish fan, but the way they cook it it just melts in your mouth. It’s usually very easy to get into and their service is fairly prompt.

Great atmosphere. Host greeted us and seated us immediately. Waiter was very attentive and gave off a very good vibe. Service was above and beyond. Ordered 5 tropical habanero wings, 5 spicy bbq wings, and they exceeded my expectations. Would recommend and will definitely be coming back to this establishment.

Crap. Waitress — terrible! One of the WORST I’ve ever had(please choose a different line of work N$&ki as your snarky attitude and eye rolling bullshit doesn’t endear customers to return to this tourist trap). In all honesty, this place needs a manager — REALLEADERSHIP to make sure these vapid wait staff do their jobs — or get rid of them! I wouldn’t recommend anyone eat here. Service is poor, my food was cold, and was NOT worth $ 32.00! This theme restaurant isn’t worth your time or money, there’s plenty of better alternatives in the area, sadly we didn’t find out until my awful tilapia and cold vegetables arrived.

Last night I had the alligator grand chenier. Okay, there wasn’t a lot of alligator but that Cajun sauce was absolutely to die for. I couldn’t get enough bread to sop up the mildly spicy and creamy sauce. If you go there, try it.

I LOVELOVELOVE Buzzard Billy’s. My family and I have been coming here for years. I introduced my husband to it a while back, and he is never opposed to coming here when we are in Lincoln for a weekend. When you walk in the atmosphere is just fun and casual. The walls are covered with fun decorations and old movie posters and things like that. The tables have old trading cards from old TV shows under the glass. When you are a kid, between the cards on the tables and the train going around the main part or the armadillos on the fans you don’t get bored. The food is Cajun based and sometimes spicy. The portions are good sized and the food is good. I have yet to have something bad here. I usually get the shrimp po’boy with fries. It is amazing. I have also had the buffalo burger and that is a nice leaner option from a normal burger. There fried alligator is also wonderful! It’s usually our go to appetizer. That or the GIANT mozzarella sticks. I will continue to go here when I can and maybe next time try something new. ;)

We wandered in here while exploring the area. It was a Monday night, so it was pretty quiet. The waitress was efficient, friendly, and patient while we looked over the menu, eventually ordering gator fingers, the Cajun combo, and a side salad. I felt a little misled by the gator fingers since they were more like popcorn gator, but were tasty enough(as most fried things are). Everything on the Cajun combo was too spicy for my delicate palate except for the tilapia, which was great! I get the impression that this is fairly watered down Cajun, but it was a nice enough meal, and different from the many burgers and bars that were in the area.

I have no stars to give this place because of the racism that occurred with my last visit. I went to college in Waco so when I came to Lincoln with an ex of mine I was super excited to eat some Buzzard wings. Well lo behold they didn’t seat us for a good 30 minutes even though there were tables open and no one was ahead of us. It took us ten minutes to even get someone’s attention. The worst part was that when we finally got seated, the next couple that came in was immediately seated next to one of the five empty tables next to us. Also the waitress was extremely rude when taking our order. We finally put our order in and the couple that came after us, was seated after us, got their orders taken after us, got their food before us. We ended up walking out we were so disgusted. This wasn’t the first restaurant in Lincoln to treat us like that. Folks, racism is alive and well in Nebraska but that shouldn’t be too surprising should it?

Was having a great time having drinks service was great. We were sitting outside in the corner with a breeze in our face. Apparently the problem was we were smoking cigars. Never mind that we were paying customers in a smoking area. Pretty soon the manager comes out and let’s us know that they were loosing business because of us and we would have to either put them out or leave. Our cigar group is now happily meeting next door at brewsky’s.

Buzzard Billy’s is a very casual sports bar with a Cajun theme. I stopped in for lunch and ordered their Greek salad topped with a blackened chicken breast. The service was prompt and polite. The salad was fresh and crisp without too much dressing and the blackened chicken breast was hot, tender and well spiced. I definitely enjoyed my experience.

First time eating in the Haymarket. I chose Buzzard’s because of it’s Cajun themed food. I sat outside on the patio and watched some Creighton basketball. Nice atmosphere. I started off with some pickle chips and they were not up to par with any other pickle chip I’ve tried… anywhere. They were barely breaded and tasted like I was chomping on them right out of the jar. Very greasy with a lack of crispness. The ranch dip even kinda sucked as it was as runny as milk. I then had the shrimp po’ boy with ugh. crinkle cut frozen French fries. The po’ boy may have been fine if there was more than a couple shrimp scattered on it. However, there was an overwhelming amount of lettuce, pickles and tomato, if only I was a rabbit. Do rabbits like pickles? I literally thought I was eating a salad sandwich. The remoulade sauce was the highlight of the meal. Yippee. Oh, the fountain Coke was okay. Yippee. My recommendation, skip the Cajun. I’m sure the Haymarket has better grub to fill your belly.

Really good cajun food in Lincoln. Yeah I know what you’re thinking, cajun food in Nebraska?! I had the swamp thing which was soooo good. The chicken was topped with cole slaw, Creole honey mustard, jalapeño bacon and Jalapeño Muenster cheese. Sounds weird but all of the flavors just meshed. My coworker ordered the gator bites which were good, the sauce that it came with definitely made them stand out. He ordered the jumbalaya and loved it. Big portions. Friendly service. This place has tons of tv’s, tons of mardi gras decorations, and just has an awesome vibe. I would definitely come back here to have a few drinks the next time I’m in town.

When I’m in Lincoln, I make sure I have at least one meal here. As N’awlins is my hometown, I can find several excellent authentic meals here. Armadillo Eggs, Grilled Chicken & Andouille Sausage Gumbo, Seafood Eggplant Pirogue, Chicken Tchoupitoulas and on! Their portions will satisfy a Husker football player! Their beer selection is excellent and the drinks are made with a «good pour!» I always leave satisfied!

One of my favorite restaurants. I am not an «expert» on what Cajun is like since I grew up in the midwest, but I would have a hard time finding something to criticize about Buzzard Billy’s. Portion sizes are large, food is great, service is good and prices are reasonable for what you get. If you feel like something different, give them a try.
