A dive that you must eat at! Classic diner feel with great portions. I got the chicken fried steak and eggs with home style potatoes. The home style potatoes are incredible. Everything seemed homemade. Our server was awesome! We got in without a wait but after we sat down there was a crowd at the door.

Good food, big portions. Friendly atmosphere. Feels like a small town café. Nice wait staff. Will definitely head to this place before I go to any chain restaurants. Limited seating, so may have to wait during busy times.

The wait was a little long for a party of one, but the 15 min wait wasn’t too bad for how packed the place was. Unfortunately, there wasn’t anything too spectacular about this place. I had a Western Omelette with salsa on top of it. I did like the huge chunks of ham, bell peppers, and jalapeños. The flavor was great, but it could’ve been better with a tad bit more spice in the salsa. The style of the food is just a tad bit better than a Denny’s so I wasn’t too impressed with the amount of food I received. However, the waitresses were great, very friendly and made sure my coffee and water were always full. I would definitely come back again just because of the service and the quick turn around of my order.

Great food, great service! Chicken fried steak, gravy and a cinnamon roll. Have to hit it right or you’ll have to wait for a table

Amazing place for the best biscuits and gravy, the city boy is so filling and so much food. Their potatoes are to good to be true. Highly recommend this little café! Quick service and the servers are awesome!!!

Everything about this breakfast place is perfect – the food, the kitschy feel, the service. I had a mushroom and cheese omelette. I ended up taking half home because it was a generous size and so good! This may be a weird thing to like, but I was really impressed with the fruit cup. Instead of the usual cantaloupe/honeydew mix, this had blueberries, bananas, grapes, and watermelons. Combined with the coffee, it was an excellent breakfast!

Great place. Good breakfast, bottomless coffee cup and priced right. I’ve mainly eaten here for breakfast but have tried lunch a couple of times. Good but breakfast better. Which is served all day. I recommend.

A friend and I were hungry and decided to go to Cooks because it was nearby. I was a little cautious at first because this place is definitely what you would consider a dive, but we left impressed. The food was good and the price was just right for a filling breakfast. I got the peanut butter banana French toast and it tasted really fresh, the best part it was only $ 6! The service was good, and our waitress was friendly and helpful. I will definitely come back when I’m in town. I would choose Cooks ten times over before I went back to village inn or Perkins.

Our favorite place for many years for breakfast in Lincoln. Most always keep the coffee cup topped off for always the same temp brew. Long time waitress bought the place Jan ’14 and it’s a much happier place but now there is often a line to get in. Tables turn pretty quickly so lines aren’t too bad. Breakfast served all day.

Small, Friendly, and Oh So Good! Whatever happened to the classic American café? It moved to 1300 N. 66th Street in Lincoln. Wonderful, generous portions of tasty food served by people who genuinely like serving people! This place is a gem!

Great pancakes. Good prices. Sometimes the service isn’t the best, but most of the time, they’ll do anything to accomodate you.(steer clear of the steak, but other meats are great!)

This is café food. Good portions and well-made. For what it is, it is a great place to go. The waitress that works most lunches(I haven’t had breakfast there in a few years) is great. She is often the only person working, but she keeps on top of your drink, clearing plates, etc. If you like small cafes, this is a good place to visit.

I’ve introduced many people to this place and everyone has liked it. The experience Gabby had seems like an anamoly but I suppose everyone has different tastes.

Cooks is definitely a dive, and I’m usually all about the dives. This place is a little greasy spoon, and when I first entered I was giddy to try it. What happened next was a below average café meal and terrible service. Our waitress made no eye contact, and pretty much asked us what we wanted to order and just slammed it on the table along with the check. That’s all we got. No check back. No coffee or water refills. Nothing. The food? Not great. Like I said before, I love a good greasy, small town kind of café. This isn’t a good one at all. The omelet I had was pretty tasteless and the ‘cheese’ on it consisted of a slice of American cheese placed on top(not melted mind you). The coffee was hot, brown water. Blech. If you want a good greasy spoon try The Hi-Way Diner or Virginia’s or if you’re in this neighborhood go to The Bethany Café instead.
