So Hartley’s is a little meat pie bakery in Lincoln, and I am not kidding when I say little. You walk in and there is room for a line of maybe 3 people to walk to a counter and order. The pies themselves are cute individual serving size, and they do sell out of certain kinds fast so if you want a specific kind I recommend getting there early! I have to say I did love the charm of it. The crust on these pies is amazing — crispy, flaky, and delicious. I just wasn’t a huge fan of the inside. Maybe I just got a bad batch… but mine seemed a little greasy and less gravy as some reviewers have said. Maybe I will give them another try sometime, because I really wanted to love them.

Was lucky that my housemate had a box full of these cute little pies from a Christmas party. Been wanting to try them for so long! They did not disappoint! SOAWESOME! Delicious and their really cute, the perfect size so you don’t feel guilty eating them! I’ll be checking out the shop in person soon! What a treat! Thank you Hartley’s!

So fabulous! This is the kind of item that makes a place special. Rhode Island has many such places and Hartley’s is one to seek especially the Smithfield location where it’s take out only. Go and enjoy.

This place is a little hidden gem! The storefront isn’t much to look at, but the prize is inside. These little pies are really yummy! I’ve tried several different varieties and all of them taste good. I like the original pork, and the beef, but my favorite is the chicken. They are full to the brim with chicken surrounded by this yummy gravy, and the dough is just perfect. I could eat these, hot or cold every day! I brought some to my coworkers recently, and they all like them now too. Highly recommend!

One of the best places to get a good old fashion meat pie. Small, tiny and sell out fast so get there early. The pies are not normal pie size bite of two bite size. The gravy in them is great and reminds me of how my mother use to make them.

English Pies! Yes!!! I used to pass by this place so many times without noticing it. It’s really small. But when you get inside, the delicious pie smell greets you. Your mouth will water! First of all, call ahead in the morning to order because these pies sell out fast! They only make certain number of them. Once they’re out, that’s it. If you come late, you will only get the leftover flavors. So without knowing all this, I went there on a Friday noontime(which is actually late!). So anyway, I only had the leftover chicken pies and their famous pork pies. Thank God Allelujah! No more beef though so I didn’t get to try that. Now I also wanted to try the Salmon ones but hello, it’s Friday. So they were the first ones to go. Bummer! I got my pies fresh and still hot and steaming.(They’re not fruit pie-sized. They’re smaller.) I looove the crust. So flaky! Not greasy I’m on vacation next week. Let me know which days you have off. We can go to boston or something or see Christmas lights all. So much meat packed inside. I was really in pie heaven!!!

I stopped in today, ordered 3 pork pies, and I was immediately impressed with the quality and flavor Hartley’s puts into each of their pies. As I have stated in many of my reviews of other establishments, there is something to be said about establishment that specialize in one type of item and do it consistently well. The word ‘Artisan’ has been overly used in recent years, but Hartley’s are definitely masters of their craft. Their unwavering resistance to change, from their store front to their product is a testament to their will to be the best at what they do. As far as the pies go, man they are good! Well-seasoned meat and a proper crust. Can’t get any better than this. To be fair I have not tried anything but their signature pork pie, but I’m sure the chicken is equally good. A definite recommend from me.

SIMPLYTHEBEST! I’ve been going to Hartley’s since I was a little kid living in Saylesville. This place was here when my great grandfather was alive. So generations of my family have been coming to Hartley’s!!! It was always a huge treat on Saturday morning for Dad to come in w/a box of pies! Meat and potato are my absolute favorite! But you’d better hurry there, they sell out very quickly. These are REAL English pies. Don’t let the outside of the building deter you, it looks like a brick hole in the wall but OMG… It’s clean and the pies are FANTASTIC! My son now enjoys the pies also! Take the early morning Saturday trip and enjoy! Sooooo worth it, you won’t be disappointed!

English meat pies. I believe this is probably the most authentic English style meat pies in New England. I’ve been in the neighborhood for over 35 years and I believe this place is probably hundred years past my time here. Doesn’t look like they have ever been changed it’s recipe or the building. If you like a bite of history hartleys is what you want a great meat pie. Come to hartleys. Great local family owned Business. yum.

My friend Andy said it best«The place of YUM» Great lunch item for $ 2.50. Try the Tourtière, A pie that they do specifically for the french Canadian neighborhood. It combines beef and potatoes with a hint of Alspice. Make sure that you do not set the box of YUM down on your best jacket, or car seat. the pan juices can soak threw the box. I bring a newspaper to set it on. I always buy more than i need and pass the stoke on to neighbors and friends. Whatever i do not eat that night i freeze. Its a sad day when i open the freezer and realize that we are out.

First off, I’m a brit from deepest Lancashire — PIE country. Hartley’s pies don’t have the gelatin that some UK pies have… BUT… they are easily as good in every way. Meat, Pork, Chicken(a universal fave), Salmon, Meat and tater are available. The tiny store is JUST like stepping back to a 1960’s English Pie shop. Have introduced these to my wife, daughter, work colleagues and all are now confirmed Hartleys fans — go figure. Best to call ahead as once they run out, they are gone and they close. The pies are 2.50 a pop and are small but filling.

I grew up on frozen«pot pies», and frankly, hated them. Except for the crust. Thankfully, the people at Hartley’s have thought long and hard and decided to remove all those bothersome vegetables, in order to make room in the crust to cram some more savory goodness! The price has inched up to $ 2.50 per piece, but still a damned bargain! Thanks again to Unilocal for guiding me here!

Went to this place last weekend and split one of each kind of pie on the menu between two people. The pork and meat + potato pies were tasty and very filling, but the standout for me was the chicken. I’d eat those every day if I could. The beef, on the other hand, was very greasy and didn’t have as much flavor.

PORKPIEPORKPIEPORKPIE!!! Delicious delicious pork pie. Traditional British style, softball sized pies — they are perfectly seasoned, baked in their own juices, self contained parcels of lovely. Look for the«we’ve got pies» signs — cuz when they’re gone they’re gone. I have to admit that I also like the salmon and chicken ones. .. salmon if you don’t mind a little fishiness. .. which I don’t. Kinda wish the crust was just a little flakier — but somehow that would be less authentic. .. I envision coal miners breaking these out in the depths of the earth on their lunch break.

GOHERE. EATHERE. INCREDIBLE. Chicken, pork, beef, salmon. Everything you need to know is written above, but here are the details. for $ 2 each you get these lovely fist sized pot pies. They do not come in aluminum pans, the crust is extraordinary, deep brown, and hold the entire contents of the pie without assistance. Often coming right out of the oven. If you have a lot of napkins and are agile you can eat them right out of your hand. Just meat and sauce, not diluted with vegetables, perfectly spiced. The chicken is my favorite, beef second, pork a close third. here is a link to a photo of the pies, and a well– written review

Shazam! another New England icon that has remained unyelped… I am chagrinned. This hole in the wall, retail only shop is about 10’x10’. They make meat pies and only meat pies. Mostly pork, but some beef and I think a salmon too. British style, small round pies about 4″ across. Roast pork in a pork gravy with a flaky crust drizzled with more gravy. Oh God, its good. A box of 4 is around $ 5.00. Served piping hot, you can also get frozen to cook at home.
