They’re the cutest old movie theater. I hope they stay around for when I have kids. They have really cheap prices and great deals for drinks/popcorn. Their seats are a little uncomfortable, but you’re also getting an experience, not just a movie. I’m not sure how often they rotate their movies, but normally they’re not new ones. They also have great showings of rocky horror picture show. Definitely recommend that.

Went here for the first time to see Rocky Horror with some friends. I like the classic, old timey feel of it. Prices aren’t bad, staff are friendly. Seating’s a little uncomfortable, but it’s alright.

The Joyo was the first place I ever seen a movie on the big screen. Movies that I remember seeing on the big screen at the Joyo were Bambi, Milo & Otis, 101 Dalmatians, Beauty and the Beast, Home Alone 2, The Flintstones, The Lion King, Free Willy 2, Batman Forever, Flipper, X-Men, Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, A Christmas Story, and It’s A Wonderful Life. Sadly, as much as I have seen Rocky Horror Picture Show, I have never gotten around on seeing it at the Joyo for the Saturday midnight showings they have once in a while. Another movie I never got around to seeing at the Joyo was MGM’s classic; The Wizard of Oz, when they would show it. Well, someday when they are showing them two, I’ll get around to them someday, somehow. At one time back in spring of 2001, they did show pro-wrestling pay-per-view events on their big screen. If they were to do that again someday, I’d come and watch, just as much as people come and watch the Nebraska Huskers football games. The tickets for adults are only $ 5. As for kids, teens, and seniors, only $ 4(I think), and for kids under 3 are free. As for the snacks, I love their popcorn they serve and that the drinks, popcorn, and other snacks are reasonable prices. Knowing that they have mentioned that people can have parties arranged, I’d like to see what that is like. I’ll just ask the owners and see what that’s all about. As much as they’ve been renovating piece by piece each year, they’ve come a long way, and all in good time they’ll have the renovations completed.

The 4 stars are partially because I like old theaters, this is Lincoln’s only independent theater, and the owner’s just a really sweet guy. The long-awaited bathroom renovations were complete when I last visited in July 2009. It’s nice, though I regret the space it took up in the main theater. Renovations are on-going — the owner works a second job to support the theater. Second run theater and more — they bring in magic shows, host birthday parties, and will do private showings of films(independent, special-interest such as Indian, etc.). During football season they show the games on the big screen(for free!) and sell concessions. They do cheap matinees of kiddie films in the summer, and in October the owner brings back Rocky Horror. Nice marquee, big screen, big venue(cavernous — seats 300, less the couple of seats removed to make space for the expanded bathrooms). The owner is a sweet guy who was very good to us when we ran a Rocky Horror cast here — we still come back and visit occasionally. It’s the sort of place where if you’re a regular they learn your name.

Old theatre with character, but in need of renovation. The Joyo is truly a Lincoln landmark. I have fond memories of watching the Rocky Horror Picture Show on screen AND on stage here as a teen. I love that they show Husker games here. And I really love the Christmas tradition of showing«It’s a Wonderful Life» here every year. If you need stadium seating and Dolby surround sound to enjoy a show, this is not the place for you. But if you can appreciate an old theatre with a bucket of popcorn & some candy buttons(yes, they have retro candy, too!), it’s worth a trip to Havelock. My biggest gripe about this place is the bathrooms, which badly need to be updated.
