I’ve long looked for a taco in the Lincoln/Omaha area that was similar to those that can be found in the Scottsbluff area. Mateo’s not only makes them, but has the best that I’ve ever had. They are large with generous portions of meat and toppings inside. Mateo’s pork chili which they use to smother enchiladas and burritos is also quite good. If you haven’t had pork chili before, throw out your ideas of chili before you try it or you may be confused. The chili has a base texture similar to Mulagatani, but with chunks of pork in it. It’s is especially good on top of enchiladas or burritos(or even drizzled in a taco). I’ve always really liked dipping chips in it too, but strangely Mateo’s doesn’t bring chips to the table. Either way, unless you know what you’re ordering, asking for a bowl of pork chili is not going to be the best way to experience it.
