Last year on a trip to the Grand Canyon, my family stopped at a Taco John’s. I thought the food was going to be crap and planned on staying ever loyal to T-Bell, which has gotten me through many drunken nights. After having a bite of their Sante Fe burrito, and learning they sold churro sticks, I converted to TJ’s. You can only imagine my excitement when I passed a TJ’s coming home on the Sunrise Highway here in NY. So far, I have been to the joint 3 times and each time get the chicken Sante Fe burrito(no sour cream — makes it too mushy and hides the spice) and a churro(which they have made fresh each time). Each time I have experienced what can only be comparable to a food orgasm. It breaks my heart to see fellow NYers skip the place and head over to Arby’s next door. The quality of TJ’s ingredients, shear size of the burrito, and price($ 5!) makes Taco Bell and Chipotle look like chumps.

I have only been here twice, but I’m not confident that this small new chain restaurant will survive; not many people eating here both times and nobody on line. The shame is, the food is pretty good. And this last visit, I have to make mention, that the lady who took care of me named Donna happens to be probably the nicest person I think I’ve ever met. I just hope for her sake this restaurant stays afloat.

Went in yesterday and had a very pleasant staff member who was helpful and explained a few of the different burritos/tacos to me. The food was food and better than I would have expected for fast food. I’d definitely go again if I was passing by.

Well i’ve been meaning to get here for a while since the last time i had Taco John’s was a few years ago. I was surprised they opened up one right here on long island. So i drove out tonight and the place is shared with Arby’s. It was clean and well stocked with salsa’s, condiments, etc. I got the number 1 combo meal which was 2 crunchy tacos, potato olé’s and drink. I also got the 2 for 2 $ bean burrito to take home with me for friend stopping by later. I got 2 salsa’s the mild and the medium as well. The taco was really good, better than taco bell for sure. I really enjoyed the bean burrito too hey i had to try it out. I got both without cheese since im not a fan and i really liked them both. The potato olé’s i could do without. I remember them being spicy but these were basically just boring old tots. I would def go here again when im in the neighborhood. They had some mexican donut like things i was curious about but didn’t try this time. They also have a bell that says«ring for great service» on the way out. I bet the people that work here hate that fucking thing. The cashier was very nice and smiling and im nice and full. Good job.

First time here tonight with my girlfriend and kids. We ordered the 12 taco box with the tatertots and guacamole. Tacos were better that taco bell and the tater tots were tasty gurlfriend loved the guacamole. 21 bucks for 4 good deal. We will be back again

Imagine my surprise as, after taking a wrong turn while headed to Hwy 109, I passed a Taco John’s. For those not in the know, it’s a chain that’s been around in the midwest for years, having been founded in Wyoming the same year Woodstock took place. They call it «West-Mex», and it’s an interesting take because instead of chips, you get these quarter sized mini hash browns that are(usually — more to come) seasoned with the most delicious spice mixture ever applied to hash browns. Like so good that when my mother-in-law worked there long ago(in Kansas, mind you), we tried to coerce her into stealing a packet for us. In the end, she took the high road and just asked for a packet to give us. Their other offerings are pretty standard Mexican fast food fare. The meat and potato burritos are pretty hardy, and I like the olé supreme, which is a hash brown based take on nacho supreme. Only two little stars on this review, despite the fact that I drove 20 minutes to eat here. They just don’t seem to get it quite yet. There was *way* too little seasoning on the oles, and I couldn’t wade through the throng of people ordering to ask for more. The tacos I ordered made Taco Bell’s meat application seem generous. And last, but not something I’m docking a star for, is the fact that they’ve dumbed down their dessert offerings by calling the sopapillas«Mexican donut bites». Like sopapillas is unpronouncable or something. I’ll give it another shot next time I’m in the area, but if the oles are underseasoned again, I’ll start a riot.
