Smallish museum. The displays were done well. Best of all it was free as in free. They have free parking.

Awesome museum. The docent, Tupper, was very helpful and knowledgeable. She showed me around and explained the history of urology from the beginning into modern times. Nowadays we use pharmacological methods for attacking bladder and kidney stones but for most of man’s time on earth, we’ve used manual ways of getting at them. In the past there was a high mortality rate but instruments were later made that could go up the urethra and go after/crush stones. After that we got high tech cameras to see what we’re doing and ultrasonic or even microwaves to destroy stones. The museum has a cool assortment of tools, books, and bladder/kidney stones. Some of them look very painful, some huge and heavy, some just bizarre. The 10 pound stone, the animal stones(dog, cat, goat, horse, elephant), the stone that built up around a thermometer(and the funny story of how the thermometer got into the dude’s bladder) are cool. As an added bonus they have an exhibit of quack medicines. One of them was an elixir for dealing with menstrual cramps. At 20% alcohol the last thing the lady would be thinking about were cramps! It seems like people that work in the urology field have a great sense of humor. There is quite a bit of adult humor going on in the displays. Some pictures I will not upload here to Unilocal but just go to the museum and check things out. You’ll be glad you did!
