A favorite place to order from in the area. With not many great restaurants available to people that work in the area, our office staff visits this place often and we order weekly from here. Would recommend. Have had consistent service and food from here.

I have to say, I read reviews about this place after I already sat down and by the ups and downs and mood swing comments I can only maybe they have some good and bad days. I hit them on a great day. The edamame was excellent and crisp. All of the told were fresh and delicious. The service was fine. The manager helped when my server was busy and checked on me often. I don’t write a lot of reviews but if I could I would give them a ten. Today they were on.

The bento box was a great choice when I wanted a little of everything! Fresh seafood! Salmon was moist.

Very clean place in a strip mall that looks a little beat up. Service was excellent! Ordered the Sashimi regular and Squirrel roll. Sashimi was amazing!!! Squirrel roll did not look like I imagined but was good nonetheless. Stop by!!!

Still loving this sushi! Wish I could get it more frequently. The miso soup is always delicious! We love the shrimp tempura roll and the crazy salmon roll! We usually get carryout now, but I did go in yesterday and they have updated the place. It looks great! I refuse to eat sushi from anywhere else. You are missing something! Try it and you will like it!

16cents tip And only because I was rounding up. OK, I didn’t expect much from a Maryland Japanese Restaurant, except maybe… being interested in having customers? Not here! Dame!(bad) So it’s a Tuesday night, two couples at two tables. Three Servers, plus two cooks at the Sushi bar, plus a few other wandering around. Yet, they were the sorriest bunch of restaurant employees I’ve ever come across. The place was clean, the ladies were in kimono, the men sharply dressed, but that’s where it ended. I have NEVER sat at ANY sushi bar, no matter how out of the way, or backwater town I’ve been that has been more apathetic than this place. Not even greeted, nor any attention at all but the one server who took my order and that was as blasé’ as it comes.(I was the ONLY person at the sushi bar, so a bit tough to overlook me, but they did their best… successfully) They were too busy talking amongst each other in Chinese(or was it Korean… wasn’t nihongo, Japanese, that’s for sure) Soooo I’m wondering how it got a «2014» award. Must have been a review on a Saturday night. If you come on an any other night where things are slow, don’t expect much! I had a Sea Dragon Roll. Was alright, but way too much mayo for my taste. Pretty sad. ;-(

Service and food here is good. I love coming for the lunch deals, it comes with soup or you can get 2 – 3 rolls. Definitely worth the money. Dinner is a bit expensive, but the food is good. I have no complaints except I went here with my friend that was allergic to shellfish, things like crab and shrimp. He started having a slight allergic reaction(it was anything big), probably because the sushi chefs did not wash their knives before making his salmon. So if you’re allergic to shellfish, make sure you ask them to wash their knives!

I’ve been living here for going on 5 years and know the sushi scene very well. Matsu is the best in the area, unless you want to venture deep into Baltimore. I have 25 check ins here, and I only remember to check in about half the time! The fish in the sushi is always fresh, the rolls are large so you’re not getting skimped, and their Gyoza dumplings are the only ones I’ve had in Maryland that use real chicken filling. I love the seaweed salad and their sake selection. The atmosphere is pleasant, and they play nice calming music. Pound for pound this is the best sushi experience you can get without flying to California!

This place is consistently good for homestyle Japanese cusine– ie: not just sushi. The japanese food tastes like my Mother in Law made it. She cant scoff at the food here. And that says alot if you have an asian mother in law. Just saying…

We were so excited when this place opened in the former nasty old Linthicum pharmacy. And our first few trips there were great, very fresh fish, good sushi rolls, and perfect slices of sashimi. Service did seem a bit«uncomfortable» though. Then it happened: as the four of us we sat there enjoying our sashimi boat, a roach fell on our table from the ceiling. Rather than make a scene, I just brushed it away as quickly as possible. But all I could think about was where’s the next one. I warned my Mom the keep an eye on her purse so she didn’t end up with a surprise guest. We’ve never been back since.

Came and gave this place a try since the reviews seem OK. First of all, this place is not authentic Japanese for no greetings in Japanese what-so-ever. The waitresses are dressed in traditional gowns and other than that there’s no service. The food was just OK. My son ordered tempura udon — the tempura was good and crispy — but the soup base was over peppered, and beside taste like pepper then there’s no other taste. The sushi came OK. When we tried to ask to refill our green tea, the waitresses just stares outside of the window with her back leaning on the wall. We will never come back to this place.

Bottom Line: Tucked away in a sad looking strip mall, Matsu surprises you with a cute interior, tasty sushi and attentive staff. Ok, so to be fair, I have only been here for lunch. Here is what has Matsu calling my name as the clock strikes noon: — Cute interior, clean, modern yet Japanese feeling. The restaurant is quiet at lunch time. — Wait staff looks adorable in their Kimonos and they are attentive — Sushi is tasty. Not the best sushi I’ve had but certainly yummy and an excellent value. — The lunch specials are a great deal. You can get two rolls and soup or salad for $ 9.(Not all rolls are part of the lunch special but basic rolls are.) — Service is fast at lunch.

Best sushi I have had to date! Stopped by on a whim as out of towners. We had take out regretting we did due to a well put together interior greeting us I wish we had stayed. Presentation to go, PHENOMENAL! Spot on rolls, great prices if anything maybe a touch less of cream cheese on the Tiger Roll.

I have been going to Matsu for about 6 years and they never disappoint. It is a little off the beaten path in Linthicum but a quality sushi place nonetheless. Their miso soup is excellent and their sushi is always fresh. Their lunch deals are great and the service has always been excellent.

It’s really surprising that a japanese restaurant would be located in this linthicum plaza! But, several co-workers speak high of this place, so i wanted to give it a go. The interior is nice and clean, and the employees courteous. I ordered a shrimp tempura bento box. The shrimp tempura was very good as well as the other items that came(shumai, tempura vegetables, california rolls, rice, and miso soup). I really had no complaints, though for some reason I did not feel entirely satisfied after leaving. That might be a good thing since that means the meal was light, but nothing that made me think«wow, that really tasted spectacular». However, all was good b/c after the meal I went next door to Keller’s Donuts and got myself a chocolate coconut donuts for dessert!

Ordered off lunch menu 3 rolls combo — $ 9.25 Spicy salmon roll Spicy tuna roll Shrimp tempura roll Beef teriyaki bento box — $ 9.50 Quality — 2 stars — I don’t like it when the rolls are made of chopped salmon/tuna. This place took it to a whole new level. The fish was so ground up that it had a mushy texture. Everything else was just okay. Service — 3 stars — waitress never checked on us. Ambiance — 4 stars — it’s a nice, clean restaurant. Don’t want to be bias but the sushi chefs were not Japanese — they were speaking Mandarin. This place is not as authentic as it appears. The best thing about this place is the value. Lunch only though, they mark the dinner menu up quite a bit.

2.5 nope, not rounding up this time… Alrighty then, located in a small strip mall type of place, right across from I believe a Exxon gas station. The restaurant is located on the end of the strip. There wasn’t any lighting in the signage so I had to look, since it was quite dark. Ambiance: Pretty chill, quaint location, there were all of four other people besides myself. Appeared to be clean. Service: It was okay. My initial server was unable to communicate with me when I asked her questions about the menu. The other gent that helped me was helpful enough, but he had this tinge of pushiness underneath it all. It irked me a bit. Food: I sat at the bar, and I swear this is my first sushi experience that didn’t come with a salad or soup with a sushi purchase. I thought everyone got that. Ah well. So I ordered a salmon hand roll and the Matsu special roll. I figure, you can’t really mess up a hand roll, right? It was good, wish it had a bit more salmon in it though. Regarding the Matsu special roll, it was just okay. The roll consisted of crab and cucumber on the inside with eel, yellow tail, and two types of fish eggs on the top. In looking over the menu I wasn’t particularly blown away by anything, plus I didn’t see that three roll special that folk were talking about, so I just stopped eating and left. When I’m underwhelmed that is NOT a good thing. I mean, I LOVE food, it makes me happy! Can’t say that I’d venture to go back.

This was an impulse choice, since I was in the area. I love sushi — the trendy and the small places. This is a small place, and even for a Friday night it was quiet. The sushi list was extensive, and my friend and I sampled several dishes. The Love Roll appears to be a signature dish, and for good reason, it is divine. The volcano roll is also wonderful and packs a little bit of a bite. The service was great, as well . For those not familiar, please always remember to tip the sushi chefs on the way out the door, it is considered polite in sushi bars. You will see a tip jar on top of their sushi case. If you are in the area, give it try and definitely, definitely try the Love Roll.

I don’t think the people of Linthicum know what real sushi is, the quality of sushi here is like sushi from the grocery store. The ambiance is pretty nice though, and service is ok, my waiter checked on us once… but it’s lunch time, so I didn’t have any high expectations.
