Kung pao was bland, missing spice, ginger, red chili, and garlic… Basically missing flavor. Fried rice was free of salt… Think plain rice with poorly cooked boiled vegetables mixed in. Bland bland bland! But then again, this *is* the midwest.

HORRIBLE! Threw in the garbage. I have been going here for a few years but it was sold to a new owner a while back and things went even further downhill. I lunch dish I ordered had very little beef in it and was mostly rice and they even had the nerve to increase their price while reducing quality and service. The dish was loaded with salt to the point of not even being able to eat it. These guys are so cheap they don’t even turn on their heat in the winter. The dining room was at 56 degrees and I noticed the thermostat was off. I won’t be going back. Other local options much better.

Very overpriced. Almost 13.00 for 1 egg roll and order of chicken cashew Probably will not return. Lady st front desk was not the friendliest as ND the place was empty. I walked in and waited for carryout order. I was told to get my own sweet sauce, mustard, soy sauce, which I Gladly obliged… PROBLEM when I got home and used 2 soy sauces, 1 was a very hot vinegar packet… ruined my dinner! Really should not put those in same container as soy sauce. ANDSMILE& B FRIENDLYTOCUSTOMERS

Some of the worst food I have eaten in a long time, the people here put no thought or care into the dishes they serve, The Kung Pao chicken(more like a goulash) consisted of some kind of stringy tasteless slices of chicken scattered among a few pounds of chopped celery, carrots, onions, water chestnuts, baby corn, bean sprouts, mushroom bits and of course brown salty gravy and not a hot pepper to be found anywhere The Mongolian beef was inedible and went straight into the garbage I think the meat may have been rancid since it looked and tasted like it was cooked a few days earlier, but worst of all was the pork fried rice, even the worst Chinese restaurants still have good Pork fried rice, I dunno but I think their fried rice was steamed!

This is the third time that I went to the Great Wall. The other two times, the food was adequate, but this time, the food was horrible. The cost has always been reasonable, and I was getting my nails done next door, so I thought I would pick something up for dinner. I ordered a very basic kung pao chicken, chicken/rice soup and egg rolls. I started eating the kung pao — and there was absolutely no seasoning in it — it was so bland. PLUS they put carrots in the kung pao — I have never seen that ever before. It was like they forgot to add something, so they threw in carrots… and they weren’t even cooked. It was horrible! I ended up throwing it away. The egg rolls were adequate, but had some weird red sauce in it. Today, I opened up the soup… warmed it up. and it too had no seasoning whatsoever. I can count on less than one hand the times I have put salt on my food — but I had to douse the soup with salt to make it have any flavor at all. HORRIBLE… I will never ever ever go there again.

This place has the distinct pleasure of being the one and only time in my life I haven’t tipped for delivery. This was my first time ordering from this place, but it’s right down the street so i figured it would be fast. The weather was miserable so I decided to opt for delivery. After 45 minutes of waiting for my food to show up I had to call them. They told me that my food was sitting there waiting for me to pick it up. But I had clearly paid for delivery, something she noticed after I mentioned it. If they had rushed the food out to me right away that may have saved this review. But no. They tell me it’s going to be 30 to 40 minutes. I’m a 10 minute walk away, so I found that unlikely. I figured she had no idea where I actually lived and it would be far less wait. Nope. 30 minutes later my food finally arrived. I’m assuming they decided to delivery multiple orders at once… either that or a ton of people in my apartment complex all ordered from there at the same time. Now onto the food. It was good. Nothing amazing. Nothing to write home about. Just your run of the mill takeout chinese food. So, if I ever order from here again, it’ll be takeout. But I may just take my business to one of the other dozen chinese food places nearby.

We order BBQ Peking duck at Great Wall 2014 Dec. Their food was great: crispy duck skin, tender duck meat, with sweet sauce & fresh leek. Duck breast soup is very delicious, you will feel no more greasy for the duck with the soup. The price 40 bucks for a whole roast duck separated into 3 styles to eat.

Worst Chinese food I ever had. Ordered beef chop suey and I’m not sure what I got but it tasted horrible and didn’t look anything like chop suey. The egg drop soup had no taste and the egg roll had some strange red sauce inside of it. I threw it all in the trash.

Not good. We walked in to a fairly empty restaurant(only 2 other tables). Instead of seating us at a quiet table — We were placed next to the owners 3 kids(approx. 6, 8 and 9). They were very loudly playing a game on the iPad and not concerned we were right next to them. At one point, the older child, and only girl, stood up in the chair to lean over the table and watch the boys playing their game. I had the ask the woman helping us to help. My sons and I didn’t want to see the girls underwear and butt. :( Now the food. After reading some of the good reviews… I wonder who convinced them this was what food tastes like. It was the worst meal I’ve ever had. My son got up around 10pm and literally got sick from it. Don’t order the fried rice… Rubbery chicken and weird taste. Don’t order the dumplings… Rubbery skin and odd mystery filling. Don’t order the sesame chicken… Crispy but extremely questionable meat. I wasn’t going to post a review because these seem like good people who are just working hard to earn a living. Then my son got up and threw up. Not cool.

Very disappointing. We were looking forward to some good Chinese food close to home. We ordered spring rolls, hot n sour soup, pepper beef with onion and vegatable chop suey for take out. The only item that had any flavor was the soup. How can you make beef with no flavor? We had to use liberal amounts of soy sauce and sesame oil to make the food palatable. Portions were small compared to other Chinese take out in the area. The young lady at the counter was pleasant.

Recently remodeled and feeling a lot more open with the tables and chairs re-arranged. Where Great Wall really excels is in Taiwanese influenced cuisine. The new menus appear to include the«chinese» menu in the very back but feel free to ask for the old«chinese» menu if necessary. Some of the old stand-by’s here are very good on cold winter days including a surprisingly peppery, hot and sour soup with good mushrooms. It is possible to eat very well and very cheaply here and this small local eatery is in easy walking distance from the Green Trails subdivision.

A steady and consistent family favorite over the years. Especially given that my mom is quite good friends with the owner and head chef. He used work at the Grand Mandarin for many years prior to it closing( ). Afterwards, he decided to open his own restaurant, which is really family run hence the small, homey nature of the place! I believe his wife and older kids often help out. Some favorite dishes over the years: 1) Apps: Pork Ear in Red Chili Sauce and Salty Duck: Both are made in house and have such a great flavor to them. 2) Fish: Dried Bean Sauce Fish and Great Wall Fish Head Casserole Soup: The Bean Sauce Fish is made with a large fillet of Sea Bass steamed then topped with dried bean crisps. All in all the soft and crunchy texture along with the taste variations make it a great dish. The Fish Head Soup is one of the most famous dishes that he makes and needs to be pre-ordered! 3) Meat: Three Cup Chicken, Hakkanese Sautéed: Both are great dishes and authentic in their Taiwanese nature! Overall, quite an authentic Chinese restaurant, you just have to take a little bit deeper dive into the menu to order the house specialties! Definitely recommend.

Thought I had this review written after we ate and carryout from here a dozen time. There are a few items my family are really fond of. But keep in mind that this place is tiny and services are kind of hit or miss Our favorite dishes are 3 cups chicken, Great Wall’s Tofu, salted fish fillet, Hakkanese Sautéed, Pork chop noodles, and fish head soup(need to order in advance). Other than Hakkanese Sautéed, all listed are none spicy food and kids friendly. They could be a bit heavy and greasy. But all really delicious and very consistent so far. We were not too impressed with beef with broccoli nor Fish fillet with Chinese broccoli. They are fine but not that impressive. The services, however, were not consistent. Half the time I have to call the wait person to get what I need. A few of my friends were not treated politely when they were there. So carryout has been my recent approach.

11÷13÷12: Lunch stop here after visiting the DuPage County Children’s Museum(not nearby but on the way to our next destination). Small, quiet restaurant located in a generic strip mall. We got a table without any wait(Tuesday noontime), I’m always a fan of supporting a Taiwanese restaurant, especially since in Honolulu there are none. The lunch specials are a great value and taste delicious. I ordered a pork chop plate that was very tasty, rice was served with some traditional Taiwanese accouterments, we loved it.

This is a nice, cozy little restaurant with good authentic Chinese food. It’s a Taiwanese owned place, and has 8 tables. I also really liked the homey casual feel of the place, and very convenient strip mall parking. It’s basic and not fancy, so don’t come expecting anything more. We had a couple of standard dishes for us — fish filet with Chinese vegetables and beef with rice noodles — both very good and generously portioned. They’re especially known amongst the Chinese community(and others) for their fish head casserole bowl($ 27 current market price), and we’ll be back sometime to give that a try. You need to order it about 4 hours ahead of time.
