This is an absolutely beautiful spot for a hike. Since I was here last fall, the local Boy Scout troop has added benches and there are additional benches all along the way. Many things makes this spot special. It has a number of lovely ponds and a dam with rushing water. There are innumerable informative planks about the huge variety of trees, the history of the refuge and colonial era info. Who knew that there used to be 14,000 miles of stone wall crossing RI or that the winterberry smells like peppermint. There is the foundation of an old farm and areas to go fresh water fishing. There is only one spot that may be wet coming from the John Dyer Road and other than that it was well maintained trails that were cut short so less chance of ticks. The volunteers who maintain this place keep it spotless. It would be a great spot to bring an elementary or middle school aged child. After my visit I stopped by Lee’s Supermarket.
