I’ve eaten many meals at this particular K&W. The place is usually crowded, but on Thursday, December 13, 2012, there were only a few diners. It was not the restaurant, the crowds were gone from Myrtle Beach. My relationship with K&W goes back to my university years. I took many meals at the Winston-Salem K&W’s rather than eating in one of the school’s dining facilities. Food has always been consistently good; however, some K&W’s just seem better than others. This is a good one. I was served a very generous portion of tender country style steak over rice.(The Concord, NC K&W is afraid to put very much meat on your plate.) There is always a good selection of Southern style vegetables. There is not much table service, but beverage glasses are refilled promptly. Desserts are great and are probably the best deal around. Generous portions of pie and cake are just $ 1.35. The German chocolate pie is great! Overall, K&W offers a large, varied, and tasty selection of salads, meats, vegetables, desserts, and breads at very reasonable prices.

Great place to eat. I enjoy cafeteria food and this is one of the better ones that I have eaten at.

I am embarrassed to admit that we ate here… but since the friends that we were visiting at the beach love it & suggested that we go here for lunch, I sucked it up and took one for the team! Man, it has been at least 15 years since I have eaten at a cafeteria, and this place reminds me of why that is the case! First off, I really hate buffets because the food that has been previously prepared has been sitting there for who knows how long before you get there… and that is the same case with cafeterias. It is cooked hours before you arrive and then brought out front to sit on top of vats of steaming hot water to keep it warm. Salad would have been a nice option, but the salads here all looked wilted & yucky. :-( I ended up getting broiled salmon, which was not too bad considering that they typically specialize in stuff like fried chicken and gross looking casseroles. However, the broccoli was definitely mushy & way too overcooked — ick! My friend calls this place«Kanes & Walkers» and IMHO, that is the demographic that K&W is best suited for.
