I began training at Katharo about 6 months ago. When I first imagined going to a Jiu Jitsu gym, I pictured a bunch of meat-headed guys training for getting into bar fights. What I found was quite different. Katharo is filled with kind, humble, and motivated people who are all there for very different reasons. Some wish to progress to become a black belt in BJJ and have a desire to fight in Mixed Martial Arts, while many are there for a non-traditional workout that loosens them up and enhances there quality of life. Whatever motivation you have for being at Katharo, you are accepted. The Training Center is led by Professor Steve who is a very experienced and skilled teacher and he is surrounded by great coaches who are able to pass down their knowledge to the students. There is a strong emphasis on self defense at Katharo. I have practiced skills which can protect me if I get jumped or even attacked with a knife or gun. These skills are very fun and practical in case a bad situation occurs. Overall, I would say that Katharo Training Center is an excellent martial arts gym. It has a fantastic facility. The mats are very clean, the locker rooms have a steam room and showers, and they recently began a workout program. Definitely the place to train whether you are a beginner looking for a new skill or are experienced in martial arts and want to up your game.
