Pomodoro Italian Deli

First off, it must be said, Pomodoro offers by far the best pizza in Live Oak (and probably within 30 miles), and at a quite reasonable price. The pizza has an excellent crust, which rises very nicely to produce a pizza that is neither too doughy or too floppy. They have definitely figured out the formula for a satisfying pizza slice. The sauce is quite good as well, and the cheese is nicely melted with some good crispy bits around the edge and on the toppings. There is a good selection of veggies and Italian meats for toppings as well, which are high quality and tasty. The garlic knots are an excellent choice too, and the pricing is very affordable.
That being said, there are a few downsides in the management, however. The service is usually quite prompt for phone-​in take out orders, but sit down service takes too long for lunch, particularly with a group. Also, there have been some odd menu decisions in the past, such as «special» pizzas (with several ingredients) costing more than ordering a large pizza with each topping individually. There’s a bit of room for improvement regarding the presentation of the desserts: the cheesecake, although tasty, is kept in a display on styrofoam plates with plastic wrap in a manner that is a bit unappealing. Although these managerial curiosities happen here occasionally, Pomodoro has definitely grown into a nice, dependable pizzeria over the last couple of years, and I’m sure the owners will work out the last couple of kinks.
Overall, definitely stop by if you are traveling through, its only a few minutes from the highway, and offers an excellent pizza in an area with few takeout options of this quality.
