A Cut Above Construction

We were referred to Kyle through our interior designer, who had previously worked with him on a few projects and been highly satisfied. Having worked with two other contractors in the Livermore area before, we were pleasantly surprised by his integrity, honest, and quality. During all of the scoping and job walks, he paid attention to critical details and pointed out how he would ensure quality beyond just doing the standard job. He employed many best practices as a matter of pride, which really just underscored how he treats his clients. He cares about the end product not only as a professional but also as someone invested in their clients’ long-​term happiness. We would DEFINITELY use Kyle again for our home improvements needs.
In terms of the actual work performed, Kyle installed our new kitchen backsplash (which looks insanely good!), fabricated and installed two large hickory floating shelves, retiled our bathroom floor, investigated a shower plumbing leak, and served as the point of contact for his painting subcontractor. The painting subcontractor he recommended was simply phenomenal and did an incredible job painting the entire exterior of our house. As part of the preparation for painting, Kyle also fixed rotting window trim and sealed all of the joints. Overall, the craftsmanship and superior work were very impressive.
Kyle was also very flexible with our schedule constraints and living situation. We have some very enthusiastic dogs that quickly befriended him and could have easily overwhelmed the average person trying to get work done. He was very accommodating with both sourcing and picking up materials when we didn’t have time, and he communicated well when his schedule required him to balance the demands of multiple jobs.
His bids came in competitively and we would not hesitate to call Kyle back for our next projects. It’s hard to imagine finding a much better contractor to partner with, if I’m being honest. We will post pictures once we finish decorating!

I’ve hired Kyle for a few projects in my home, and a commercial project in my office building in downtown Livermore. I hope to work with him on future projects as well both and home and in my office.
The projects in my home went very smoothly. He has done crown molding in most of my home and it all looks great. Very well done and made a huge difference in my house. Love!
The largest project he did in my home was my kitchen remodel. He removed a pony wall, re-​routed some plumbing and prepped my kitchen for new counters (installed by another contractor). He then came in and finished it all and added a herringbone glass backsplash tile. It looks great and I get so many compliments! I couldn’t be happier. The project went smoothly with no issues.
The project in my office was a large one that fully renovated a commercial bathroom that had not been touched in maybe 50 years. He fully gutted the room, removed a wall, and replaced everything from the flooring to the windows. He made a custom wainscot to go with the craftsman style of the building. it looks great and I’m not embarrassed to say it is the nicest room in the whole building! Everything went smoothly again which I was nervous about because the building is so old. Pictures of this project have been posted.
I’m also very particular in my vision and even changed my mind a few times during the bathroom remodel. Kyle was understanding and accommodating for those changes. He also has great feedback and a good eye for things that myself as a non-​contractor would not have known about myself.

We we referred To Kyle at A Cut Above Construction in June 2015, and he came and scoped two projects, a 120 ft. retaining wall and a concrete staining project we needed done. Kyle said he would be on a vacation but would get us a quote upon his return. We wanted a month, and in mid July, I send him a follow-​up email. As of today (Oct 2) we haven’t heard from him?
