My grandfather & his brother, Vasco & Edward(V&E) started the bar way back. My grandfather died in 1947& my father, Hank Lewis, bought out Uncle Edward & ran the bar until his death in 1997. My father & grandfathers pictures still hang on the wall over the cash register. It has always been a good ‘ol place to hang out & I’m glad to see people still enjoying it. I was surprised to see newer music on the juke the last time I was there. Jimmy is doing a good job & I’m sure my father would be happy to see it still doing well.

Its kind of croweded but has really good music playing. Drinks are pretty good as well & the people around are pretty cool as well.

If I could give it zero stars I would. The place is fine for a dive bar, it’s just the bartenders that are absolutely terrible. Takes about 30 minutes to get their attention to order something, and they move at their own pace. On top of that, they’re super rude. Unless you like to be abused by crappy, rude, slow bartenders you should stay away from here. There are better alternatives in Livermore.

Been here many times to grab a drink and play shuffle board and always had a nice time with friends. Last night the bartender was terrible. SO rude. My friend said«I’d like a draft beer» only to be reponded by the bartender«I’d like a dishwasher». Apparently we were supposed to order bottles so she didn’t have more work. My friend’s draft beer was knocked over on the bar and she charged him for a new draft. Talk about someone who hates their job. We won’t ever return.

Where do I begin with the good old fashioned V&E. The V&E I think is a historic landmark in Livermore. It’s a good old fashioned bar where you don’t have to dress up, you come as you are, and you’re accepted. The funny thing is that there’s no lights inside the bar. Only neon beer lights provide lighting for this Livermore landmark. This is definitely a place to go on a Friday or Saturday night as your last stop off from other bars in downtown Livermore. The only thing I caution is that Livermore is the number one DUI rate city in California and there’s normally cops hanging out around the corners watching and waiting so they could give you a free night stay at Santa Rita and hand you a nice big fat DUI ticket. I only know this because my friend got busted for one lol. I definitely recommend people experience the V&E at least once in their life.

They don’t take cash. It’s small and on Saturday night it was hard to get any seat and took a while to get a drink. While the shuffle board and pool table are cool it was really packed in the tiny space.

Very cool location downtown. Drinks were reasonably priced and it had a pretty quick staff working. Could’ve done without the naked photos of my grandma on the wall but you can get over that while having a good time.

Dive Bar says it all… just not in a great way. 70’s décor I can’t honestly talk about the prices because I don’t buy my own drinks What everyone says about the diverse crowd is true — There are icky older guys being pervy by the jukebox and teenage boys acting goofy by the shuffleboard. Ladies if you want to get ogled and leered at by guys in their 50’s and get a get a creepy, dirty feeling just walking to the bathroom then this is the place to be! The only reason it got more than one star is because the guys I was with seemed fine with it. I would probably not go back and DEFINITELY not without at least two guys with me.

I’ve been in livermore for almost 20 years and never ventured into this place until a friend recommended we check it out after seeing a show at the bankhead. It was hopping on friday night, had a decent selection of good beers on the cheap, and the shuffleboard table was a blast. We met a great cross-section of very cool people ranging from young to old. I will return, this was a classic bar — and much more«livermore» than some of the other bars on first street. If you’re looking to chat it up with a stranger, or play a friendly game of pool or shuffleboard(or whatever that game is called), then check it out.

Best dive bar in Livermore. Good prices, good beer, local crowd, good service, shuffleboard, jukebox, and home town atmosphere make this bar a great local hangout.

Sabertooth spotting is awesome here. I had never heard the term until Angelo F told me about it. Basically, there are cougars and then there are sabertooths. People watching is awesome here. The drinks are fairly strong and the crowd is well mixed. I have never been to a place with such a diverse crowd of people. The pool table should be moved into an area where there’s less traffic though. That would be my only complaint. We hopped over here after going to Sauced. I guess things got a little crazier after I had left. If you’re looking for a place to chat up with some locals, stop here. Drinks were a little pricey but definitely a strong pour.

Solid. Clean, cheap, fun, and patronized by a full swath of socioeconomic and demographic spectrum. Good bartenders chill crowd… it is a bit loud. Little patio and way too bright inside. Mad cheap. Worth repeating. Was a bit of a diamond in the rough for me hitting the downtown Livermore nightlife.

Ive been meaning to review this bar for awhile. I love dirty dive bars. This one fits in well. Good drinks and a local place. You can always find good ol boys getting drunk.

CASHONLY! what Year is this? This place is ok, it is super chill but on Saturday night it was pretty busy and the staff couldn’t keep up. I don’t know why the bar doesn’t employ younger bartenders? but the staff that was there Saturday night were kinda slow and overworked. ONE shuffle board ONE pool table, if there is more than 5 people you will have a problem getting to play on one of these tables.

I was here last weekend with a friend of mine who is Autistic. There was a group of cowboys to our right that wanteds to fight my friend because they wanted him to buy them a drink(wtf?) for no reason. When my friend declined to do so, they started talking amongst themselves and my friend heard them say that they’re going to kick his ass. Seriously? These guys were all in their fifties, at least, why are they trying to fight a 30 year old man with autism? We left a few minutes later with two other friends of mine who have also had a confrontation with these cowboys before. The situation was my one friend from England was playing pool and was on quite the winning streak, which one of the cowboys didn’t like. He slammed his hands down on the pool table told English Friend to stop playing pool so others can play if they want. Every pool player in Livermore knows that if you want to play pool, you write your name on the pool list and play the winner when your turn is up. English Friend told Cowboy to put down some quarters and play him when his turn comes. Cowboy didn’t like this, but I don’t know what the outcome was. These cowboys come to VE Club frequently and always bully patrons like this. Why have they not been kicked out yet? Pardon my tongue, but it’s fucked up that they’re allowed to stay here. Hey, VE staff! What gives?

The V&E is pretty damn awesome, I must admit. Being a dive bar aficionado you never really know what you’re going to get out of a bar upon making your first appearance, but this place is a dive after my own heart. The patrons are friendly(most of them. ran into a mega bitch one day) and the barkeeps are on point and courteous. The overall atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, making it a great place to strike up conversations with random strangers. I love that! Only con: I wish they had more beers suited to my tastes on tap. Will definitely be back. :)

You’ll certainly find a refreshing mix of people inside the V&E Club. It looks a little dive-y from out front and sure enough it is inside. But I will say the staff was immediately charming even through what seemed like a rough exterior. The drinks? Just how I like them: strong and cheap. You can’t beat the vibe of a place that doesn’t make you open a tab and just lets you roam around with your beverages. Love the trust, people. There’s also a fun time to be had just chatting with the bartenders and regulars, plus pool and shuffleboard never fail to amuse me. This is definitely one of the best bar spots in Livermore.

I must say that I enjoy dive bars more often nowadays. Went here with a couple of friends on a COLDDDDD Monday night. It was pretty empty and we had the whole bar to ourselves(About 10 of us). There were a couple of other groups that came and went… From the outside, it looks really hole in the wall, but when you walk in, you walk into a very clean, sanitary looking place. Even the women’s bathroom was pretty clean, and smelled decent too! The first thing I noticed were the 2 potraits of a naked woman *blush* It’s pretty spacey. You got your pool table, shuffle board, and your jukebox… the essentials of a dive bar. The female bartender was really friendly. I loved her! People in Livermore seem to be friendly? When I go to the dive bar in Fremont I feel unwelcome… strange but true fact. Everyone needs their go to dive bar. If I lived closer this would be it. Warning: Cash only! :)

One of my favorite spots in Livermore… Why? I’ll Tell You: 1. The eclectic mix of people here always makes for an entertaining night ;)(even if it’s a 200+lb guy punching a girl in the face) 2. Cheap drinks that aren’t full of ice 3. Shuffleboard 4. Pool Tables 5. Friendly and helpful staff 6. I always have a story to tell the next day Like nike, just DO it!
