I went to Jay’s Shoe Box today and received the best and most friendly service that I have received in YEARS from any store. I walked in with my two children and we were greeted by not 1 but 2 sales persons. we were helped by Ronald(I hope to god I remembered his name correctly) who immediately put my 4 year old daughter who can be rather shy at first to ease and joked with my 7 year old son even though we weren’t buying shoes for him. My daughter wanted the ugliest, most obnoxious, light up shoes ever and Ronald discreetly gave met he option of telling her they were out of stock. .. and you know what.. . I really appreciate that(I bought them anyway, by the way). Are they a little more expensive than Amazon or Famous Footwear or any other discount places? Yeah, probably but you know what. .. it’s worth it because I was able to find shoes that actually fit my daughter well and the sales person made an adjustment by including a tongue insert to make the ugly, sparkly sneakers fit my daughter’s feet better. They may have just made a long-term customer today!

Ever since my daughter was a toddler, this has been our, «Go To» store for her shoes, sneakers, and boots. It’s usually VERY busy on the weekends but they have a very good system to deal with that. You take a number when you enter like you would at a deli and simply wait until your number is called. It definitely avoids confusion when it’s busy. Service is always prompt, friendly, and courteous.

I went into Jay’s today to find sandals for my daughter. They store is beautiful, clean, inviting, friendly and just about every child’s shoe you could possibly be looking for. The service was attentive, but not overbearing and pushy. He did not have the exact shoe in my daughter’s size, however, he brought me what he did have as alternative. Which i found even better! The Owner also told me they are opening a location in Denville which is close to my home as well! I will gladly shop here for all of my daughter’s shoes. You just don’t get that kind of service when you go to the big box stores… SHOPLOCAL!

Absolutely love this place. As a first time parent with zero knowledge about what type or size shoe my child should wear, Jay’s was my guide. The staff here is incredibly friendly and patient with the little ones. They give you so many options when you’re buying shoes which is such a help. For example, I didn’t know which shoes I wanted during one visit so I bought both and returned the others a few days later. Another time, they didn’t have the size I needed and they told me if I got shoes somewhere else, to come back to them when I got them and they’d make sure they were the right fit(thank goodness, because I got a size too small). Also love their honesty — they don’t try and oversell you here. So if you only need one pair of shoes since you’ll be back in three months, take their word for it. It can be a little pricey, ranging from $ 45-$ 55 a pair, but the service is undeniable and makes those few extra dollars totally worth it.

We have been shopping here for about 3 years and could not be more pleased with their service and selection. They are great with my daughter and always make shopping there an enjoyable experience. Another perk is that they frequently have sales and coupons! Thrilled to be able to give my business to this small business owner!

Go here to get your foot measured and check out their selection. Maybe, have your child try on a shoe or two. Then, go home, look the shoe up online and order it for 25% cheaper. I try my hardest to shop locally and am willing to pay a bit more to spend money in local towns than order online. However, I think Jay’s is too overpriced. They are just high than what they should be if they want to compete. I have better luck at Suburban in Madison. I do like that I can go next door to the kids clothing store and Learning Express until it moved.

Not until I moved to New Jersey had I ever seen a PLEASETAKE A NUMBER sign on the front door of a shoe store. Don’t let it scare you away! Inside you will find the nicest, most human staff members I’ve ever met in a shoe store. They’ve seen it all, so if your little one is a little rambunctious, or a little scared to step on the measurement thingy, etc., it won’t phase them. I once got a pair of shoes that ripped within a month(not their fault, it’s not like they’re in the back room stitching the Nike’s together), so I took them in and they sent the shoes next door to get repaired right away. Also it just feels good to choose a small business over Target, in general. (And for the record, you usually don’t have to take a number, unless it’s Back to School season.)

May be a little more expensive than the big-box-chain stores… but when I was buying shoes for my children, it brought me back to my own childhood where staff actually measured and fit you for the proper shoe. In a world where barcodes and touch sceens have replaced actual PEOPLE and service… I will be back for as long as my kids can stay in the sizes they carry(should be for a long time to come).

Best child friendly staff in town. Not cheap. Honest shoe advise. Go in and get measured… they don’t mind telling you your child doesn’t need shoes and you can get them if you want or save money and come back. Pick up some socks too. Would be five stars if not so expensive.

I have had only positive experiences here.(and the owner was there both times) they have a good selection, staff is attentive, they do a great job fitting a active 2 year old. A couple bucks cheaper then stride rite and much better service. So he lost it on a skate boarder, we all lose it at times.
