My husband and I recently took an interest in making leather wallets. When we first began, we scoured forums online about where to get supplies. Tandy came up often, and lucky for us, there’s one in Livonia. We began by conveniently purchasing a bag of scrap leather and other necessities at Tandy. One we mastered our designs using scrap leather, we went back for larger, more expensive cuts of leather. The employees were really helpful about what thickness leather would work best for us and never once judged our lack of skill. They did quite the opposite! Advice was given any time we asked, which was welcomed for a couple newbies. We’ve visited several times now. After comparing prices between Tandy and Amazon, I’ve determined Tandy is competitive. Some accessories can be found cheaper online, but for leather, we love having a local affordable option. If you’re looking for a fun craft to do with your kids or scout troops, you’ll find a lot of kits with detailed instructions that anyone can follow. Once my business takes off, I’ll begin buying from actual tanneries. In the meantime, Tandy is an excellent source for beginners and intermediate leather crafters alike.
