My husband and I ate here the other night and had a lovely table by the fireplace. It was an enjoyable meal in a popular dining establishment. The hostess was lovely and welcoming. The décor was simple, well lit, tidy, and quaint. We had the Bourbon Porterhouse steak, fresh oysters, and Chicken pot pie. The steak was perfectly cooked, flavorful, and tender. The oysters were very fresh and delicious. Service might have been more attentive.

This is a horrible restaurant. Don’t waste your money or time. The restaurant was not busy and the service was the worst. The attitude of the waitress was awful and extremely slow and dropped the food and than disappeared. I ordered a salad and specifically told the waitress I did not want cheese. The salad came and there was cheese in it. Since there wasn’t anyone around to tell at the point by the time anyone came back in the room I told her that there was cheese in it and she didn’t even ask me if I wanted another one. The waitress also never came back around to ask if we needed another drink. The main dish was very expensive and drenched in sauce. That was the worst shrimp dish I have ever had. I never write bad about a restaurant however I don’t want someone else to pay for food that is not worth it and receive horrible service. I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone. There are other restaurants in the area that are so much better and have great quality food and great service. This was a huge disappointment.

Have dined here twice and both times were absolutely spectacular! The first time I stopped in for brunch with my sisters and I ordered the steak and eggs with hash browns and toast. The steak was juicy, tasty and cooked perfectly. My sisters pancakes were a delicacy. Soft, fluffy and the right amount of sweet. Dinner here was also fantastic. I had salmon with a lentil side. Flavor was great and portion size was too!

I like places that have a menu I can choose from. Meaning, I want to know what I will be getting — some of the choices I have had were Linguini Clam Sauce, Smoked Salmon with toast points, capers and onions, Shell Steak, Chopped House Salad with Gorgonzola Cheese, Calves Liver with Bacon and sautéed onions, Sea Bass… I grew up in this town and it has consistently always had good food. Yes, it does have an old fashioned vibe but it is so comfy, warm and charming. It’s old school Locust Valley and I know when we come here we will leave feeling satisfied. The deserts are amazing, Chocolate Mouse, Fresh Carrot Cake, Chocolate Cake, rice pudding… an array of ice creams and pies too. and of course the apple strudel. I had my bridal shower here and everything was amazing. A wonderful restaurant with a chef that studied in France and was head chef at Luchows in Manhatten — Marcel. On Sundays they have a nice selection of brunch items — eggs benedict, eggs florentine, country breakfast… plus an array of full plate specials with chicken or fish. even the good old Cheesburger. Give this place a try, it’s definitely the best deal in town for your money and your tummy will leave happy.

On the advice of a friend,– Tracy K sold us on this spot with her glowing review– we tried the LVI on Monday and really had a great lunch. Upon entering, you know that you are where the locals hang out. nearly all the bar stools were full and everyone knew everyone else. The bartender was also our server and was as friendly as can be. She brought us menus and also informed us of the bar menu specials that were available. To start, my beautiful date had a glass of riesling matched with the Maryland crabcakes, while I had a Belvedere martini paired with the lobster bisque. The cocktails were good and the pours generous. As for the appetizers, they were both good but not the best we’d had on the island. Solid performances though for sure and the presentation was very nice. For main courses we chose the swordfish for her and the lamb chops for me. Presentation was beautiful and both were cooked to perfection– swordfish if overcooked can be a real disappointment– but they got both dishes right I’m sure we will be back soon– and look forward to coming back to a place that has both good food and good service. Another plus is that they offer outdoor seating for when the weather heats up a little

Pleasant surprise. should have stopped in sooner… The opposite style of Left Coast, and not quite a Cornocopia, looking more like Peter Luger’s inside, LVI Bistro is a tradional inn style bistro on the north shore of Long Island in picturesque Locust Valley. Once an old Garage it was converted many years ago. It is a best kept secret for locals, and worth putting into your GPS for a nice lunch, dinner or brunch. There are a few routes, the one we took in was exceptionally pretty. coming in from Oyster Bay. through Mill Neck which is an exceptionally gorgeous part of Long Island. Think rambling estates, winding roads, small bridges over ponds with lily pads, and greenery everywhere. Checking out the menu lots of things appealed to me… but went simple. Ordered some basics like coffee, shrimp bisque, sliced steak with eggs and home fries, eggs benedict. garnished with fresh fruit. Staff were clearly there a long while. and gave some tips. Food is tradtiional German /Continential. Sunday brunches, and even a german buffet night. They had a few nice specials I will try when visiting again. like a cold seafood platter for brunch with chilled shellfish(lobster, clams, oysters). Saw lots of traditional items on their white board for their bar menu. think prime rib etc. all looked good. The waitress was super friendly and introduced me to one of the ladies that just came in to manage the bar section. The two chefs, one an owner have been there many years with loyal fans. Quaint, relaxing german pub like atrmosphere, tudor style exterior and interior, doors open, you can sit outside at a few patio tables if in warm weather. has a relaxing quiet vibe. friendly staff. LVI is very welcoming.

I have used this place for 2 important events. 1 my wifes bridal shower and just yesterday my daughters baptism. The service and food is always good and pricing for large groups is beyond reasonable. If your looking for a quiet nice place that isnt going to charge you a arm and a leg for a function, then this is the place. I have nothing but great things to say about this place.

Nice charming restaurant with great food and service. I was impressed with the Tuesday night seafood buffet. For $ 17.95 you get clams, oysters, carving station. For wine I had a lovely pinot grigio. I decided to have a drink at the bar after dinner because I liked the atmosphere. A must try!

Not bad, but now that I’m a Unilocaler it’s getting harder to impress me haha. Came here a while ago with a friend who lives in the area. It’s a small little place that was apparently packed with seniors on a Friday night. When you walk in you can go to the bar or dining area. On the menu they have a nice selection of meals to choose from. They have quite a few German selections but I dunno how good they are. They gave us the bread basket to start and it had hard bread in it. The soup that came with my meal also was a bit on the small size. We ordered duck and veal which came on huge plates. At first I thought I was really getting a large portion but then realized it’s just the plates that make it look that way. The duck had a lot of fat on it and I was a bit insulted when the waitress told me it’s not a animal with a lot of meat since I’ve had good duck at Zum Stammtisch and she recommended it to me! The orange sauce the duck came with tasted sweet though and it would have been great if I got a better piece I guess. The veal looked pretty nice from what I saw too. I had a really fun time I just don’t think anything stood out or that makes me wanna go back soon.

I love this place! The food is always great, the prices are reasonable and Jeanine(waitress) has basically become one of the family. The buffet night is awesome too, and the cute dimly-lit atmosphere is always a plus when you just want to relax. We’ve been coming here for years and I have never once had a bad meal. A must-go!

Great food and superior warm waitstaff. French, German, Italian and American at it’s best. Fireplace in the winter too. Warm cozy pub room attached. Very romantic place SYL T. Didn’t like the atmosphere? They re decorated the whole placealmost 2 years ago. It’s called country French. Not the glaring lights of Burger King you are use to. You were also there on a holiday with a limited price fix menu. Did you bother to call ahead and make arrangements for a veggie meal? Please. Nothing you said in your review was accurate or vcalid. Please tell me all the restaurants that offer Veggi cusine? Stay at Burger king and eat the fries. lol

My boyfriend and iI have been here three times in the past 3 months. Its very cute and has a warm feeling. The food is EXCELLENT. That being said, We are usually the only ones in the restaurant who are not collecting social security, although the bar on the other side of the restaurant usually has a crowd(late 30’s-50’s) on nights when there is karaōke. The wait staff is kind of hit or miss. I see the bus-boy more than my waitress sometimes lol. Everyone there is very nice though!

Where can I begin? Dim depressing atmosphere, inattentive and rude staff, and bland overpriced food. I came here with my grandmother for the easter prix fixe because she claimed this was her favorite restaurant. No surprise there, my fiancé and I were the only people in the place under 60. I get the feeling that my grandmother comes here for the social aspect alone as all of her friends from the senior center were in attendance First, I quickly discovered that there were NO vegetarian options on the prix fixe menu – and many of the appetizers and entrées carried an additional charge as well. I told the waiter I was vegetarian and asked if I could order anything else. He told me no, the prix fixe was the only option. However, as soon as I said that I would not be eating he quickly changed his tune and said I could substitute my entrée with a pasta primavera. The only appetizers that were included in the prix fixe were a prosciutto and melon and what was described as tomato and mozzarella. Well the tomato and mozarella plate was covered with prosciutto as well. I would imagine that a somewhat attentive waiter would have deduced that it is probably a good idea to warn a vegetarian that the only appetizer options on the menu include meat. Still, I didn’t say anything because I didn’t want to ruin the meal. The pasta was eh – it was doused in loads of oil and only had a handful of veggies. My fiancé’s salmon was decent, but he said he had better at Red Lobster. My grandmother seemed to enjoy her filet mignon… but then again she loves the Filet O Fish from McDonalds… The included dessert amounted to chocolate or rice puddng… I am not kidding… I’m guessing this was to appeal to the older crowd… idk…but overall it was a very disappointing experience and I will never ever be back

Its hard to give this place a review because everything seemed like it was good, but then again, compared to what? The diners were of a much older age group, the bar gets crowded on the weekends, but its all a little more of a nursing home social hour. The portions were big and the menu was predominantly German. However, the food was just okay, the Caesar salad dressing tasted like it was marinated in a salt water ocean. The herb crusted salmon was undercooked and the service was a little too much in your face with several inappropriate comments by the waitress. If no experience is a bad experience, then this was a decent choice.

Neighborhood favorite. The Locust Valley Inn(LVI) is know far and wide for great food, big portions and really decent prices. The always have some sort of special going on. The place looks like an old house and I wouldn’t be too surprised if it was at one time or another. The inside looks like someones living room! The menu contains a good selection of German items — but I wouldn’t call it a true German restaurant. Everything is always top notch. The bar can be fun at times and seem like an old folks gathering at others but still worth hitting. They also serve a decent brunch if that is your thing. Parking on the side.

Everytime I come home, I think about this place. It’s a small little restaurant in a quaint little town and has a homey feel to it. My parents love coming here for $ 15 buffet night, so I decided to give it a shot. Being a Long Island restaurant, the raw bar was pretty good. They had clams and oysters on the half shell on the bar as well as three different salad options. The beef barley soup was a little thick texture-wise, but it was pretty tasty. Best dishes of the night were the baked tilapia and oddly, the meatloaf. I’m not much of a meatloaf fan, partly b/c I’m convinced it was last night’s burger meat, but they did a pretty good job with it. The roasted sweet potatoes could have used less salt, but the carrot mashed potatoes had an interesting, yet satisfying bite to it. Although I liked the seafood pasta, some of the scallops tasted a little old… but the pasta was cooked perfectly. I’d definitely come back again… hopefully they’ll have more italian options this time around!
