Some of the items served here like scones and cookies are pretty average, but the bread is a whole different story. Every loaf of bread we’ve purchased here has been perfect. Great selection that varies per the day if the week and always fresh. Even sliced in store the bread stays fresh for 2 or 3 days… after that throw it in the toaster for a second life. Worth a whole separate trip just for bread.

Ok, so I never go into this shopping plaza unless going to the dreaded DMV(which is another story and review). I saw the signage for This store and given my weakness for bakeries and breads I had to stop in. The place smelled great, and there were some truly yummy looking breads. Picked up a blueberry pie bread(TASTY) and brought it to work to share… consensus, excellent, let’s try something else soon! No credit cards. bring cash!

This place has great bread, and if you get there on the right day and at the right time you will get what you want. My favorite bread is the honey oat bran– they make it with or without the oats on top– with, please! :) They are often out of it when I drive by the store and decide to stop, and they always tell me to call ahead and they will put it aside for me, which I’ll try to remember in the future. I like that they will slice it for you and put it in a nice freezer bag– I appreciate that. Their cherry pie bread and blueberry pie bread is delicious and so is their cinnamon bread– wow! Their scones are excellent too. They always seem friendly and happy that I came in. They have little cards that you can get stamped and eventually earn a free loaf of their daily bread– good incentive to keep stopping in. I don’t think they accept credit cards, so plan ahead.

Okay, I’m not quite sure what happened here today, but, Breadsmith was not at their best. And I was truly stunned. This place is usually pretty consistent with wonderful fresh and healthful breads, rolls, granola. The sour dough and their peasant loaf is unbelievable with a super fresh salad. I have to say that when I delivered 2 loaves to my cousin; we could have used one as a door stop and I wish the other had been available to the Steelers when they played Green Bay: it might have been useful. Again, this particular Breadsmith has been pretty much on the money in the past; and I hope that will be again(soon). So, for that, it’s an A-OK(for the moment). But make no mistake, the shock of today’s stale offerings had me muttering to myself on the drive home.

Haven’t had a bad thing here yet! They open early so it’s not an issue to pick up some fresh baked goods on the way to work. We especially like their fruit(dessert or breakfast) breads, as well as the cinnamon bread/rolls.

My family loves Breadsmith Bread! The Lombard location is great~ consistently yummy yeast breads and quick breads. We are partial to their French Peasant, Honey White, Sourdough, and Rye Breads. The owners/operators are very friendly and know us well. Highly recommend!

Breadsmith offers one of d most fresh-out-of the-oven breads in the Northwest suburbs. I enjoy the cinnamon cherries bread too. It has a gooey and crusty texture on top, and bread-like softer texture on the inside. The scones I tried — cinnamon and choc chip were both really yummy! Exactly how scones should be… The people there are always so wonderful at remembering what their customers like– i. e– It only took two visits for them to remember what I like… So, kudos to the owner/workers there. I would definitely be a repeat customer there…

I hate going to the DMV. If I have to go, I pray that I’m in and out of there without major incident or major attitude. Even the location looks so defeating, old strip mall, a parking lot that desperately needs resurfacing and no stores that I’d really need to visit. That being said, you can imagine my surprise in finding a wonderful bakery/bread shop in this strip mall. I had to wait around for phone call regarding some paperwork I was filing at the DMV for a family member and thought, what the heck, the sign says«BREAD» why not check it out. I found the staff very friendly and eager to help me. There were breads, cinnamon rolls, bread rolls, cupcakes, granola and scones. I picked up some apple pie bread to bring over to my MIL’s and it was enjoyed by all! It’s like a cinnamon roll with its fluffy texture but with bits of apple and a tiny hint of cinammon – utterly delicious. I had to go back to the DMV the next week for the same family member(yes, those DMV folks don’t make it easy sometimes) and I headed back to Breadsmith, this time I thought I’d bring some to my mom. Zucchini nut bread this time. It was just baked and had a great flavor. I picked up a chocolate chip scone for myself and I really liked it – and I normally don’t like scones. It was like a fluffy chocolate chip cookie. Cash or check only. And they do have a frequent buyers card where you can earn free bread. It goes to show that doing good deeds for others can pay off and can be pretty enjoyable at the end.

Franchise or not, Breadsmith is one of those under-the-radar places with tasty bread and other treats, and great service. They made an appearance at the local farmers’ markets that popped up around town this year. Last night I stopped over since I was in the same shopping center, and I was able to score some fresh-out-of-the-oven granola! They also have specialty artisan breads, cookies and many different dips, sauces and other servings to go along with breads, bagels, etc. There were two samples on the counter, one of them was a fantastic onion rye bread. Go search this place out. Only bad side: they don’t accept credit/debit cards. Luckily I had just enough cash.
