Nothing is better than good old Mint Meltaways — the best childhood memory ever! My sister wanted to run in here to grab a box for her kids, since we can’t seem to eat sugar like we used to. My dad grabbed an entire box of Pixies for us, which are pecans, caramel and chocolate — and I managed to only eat two. I miss the good old days when all I wanted to eat was anything coated in sugar. So as an adult, one or two of these morsels are perfect. When I checked in through Unilocal,I was overjoyed about a check in offer for 1 Free Treat Sample. I showed it with excitement to the woman behind the counter, and she looked totally perplexed — she explained to me that they always have a chocolate-of-the-day that they give out free for customers, and that day was a Key Lime chocolate. Absolutely fantastic. The good thing is, I never knew they gave out free samples until I saw that check in offer. I am always sad that Fannie May is not in California, we just have our chain with square lollypops and *mystery chocolate* — you know, the kind you have to poke at wondering what the contents are. Lame.

My go-to place for a chocolate pick me up if I’m having a bad day at work. Can’t beat some almond bark to turn that frown upside down! So convenient to the upstairs entrance by Carsons.

5 stars. A colleague had a huge tray of Turtles the other day passing the out around the office. While I declined, I was intrigued because everyone was smacking and yuming and carryingon. I had to find out what I missed. So, today I popped into the Yorktown location. The older lady behind the counter offered me a sample of something that was a dead ringer for Snickers. Yum. But, I’m more of a pecan fan. I looked in the case and didn’t see anything I wanted to nosh. So, I asked… «Anything with pecans?» Then it happened… I was introduced to Pixies and Dixies! Now, I was already sold by the names themselves. I’m a huge fan of the Hanna-Barbara cartoons. The Flintstones. The Jetsons. Captain Caveman. Scooby-Doo. Tom & Jerry… ya know what I’m talking about. Remember the two little mice… Pixie and Dixie? Anyway… I digress. A pixie is pecans and caramel covered in chocolate. A dixie is a mound of pecans and caramel — no chocolate. (I got one of each for only $ 2.28!) I have fallen in love with the Dixie. I’m going back tomorrow to buy more. I’ll never put my darling Godiva down. I’m still down with Godiva when I need my chocolate fix. But, for right now… I’ll be having fun with Fannie May, too! Thank goodness, I don’t have to choose!

With only 10 days till Christmas and crowds flocking in because of a last minute advertising blitz by Fannie May(a $ 10 off any in store purchase coupon that went out with the Sunday Tribune), this place was a mad house. The shelves were getting cleaned out and the line was nearly out the door. So why the 5 stars? Because I got exactly what I came for and the sweet, old lady helping me gave me a 15% discount! I’m sure she felt sorry for me because I was the only customer in the store who didn’t have a coupon. I also appreciated that although it was quite a scene in the store, the employees behind the counter remained calm, still stuffing customized boxes of candy by hand and treating each customer with their undivided attention. Now all I need to do is go back to the store so I can pick up something for myself and gives these famous chocolates a try…
