We played this course 23 years ago and thought it was great. Played it today and greens were in good shape. It’s still quite a challenge. We felt for the price it’s a good value. However, the cart paths and roughs were so bumpy we felt like we were off roading. Yardage was not marked well in the fairways. Sometimes it was hard to find a cartpath when you left a green to know how to get to the next hole. It’s certainly not for the faint of heart. We did NOT enjoy it as we did before. Needs a lot of attention.

One of the best golf courses in the state. Yes I know that’s a bold statement but there truly is something special about this place. A MUST play if you’re within a days drive. beautiful views. Great layout. Fantastic conditions. I could go on and on and on. Just go play it!

Absolutely love this course(and the prices aren’t bad either)! Why? This place is magical, challenging, and fun. This is not a course for beginners. I think it would be a very frustrating challenge for anyone with a handicap over 15. It’s a tough lay-out, requiring accurate shots, good course management, and patience. The wind likes to kick up in the late morning and through the afternoon, making the challenge even more difficult. I don’t want to make this place sound crazy difficult, but it’s not easy. I love it b/c each time I come here, it’s a test of my game, and I never get sick of this course. This place always makes a great and quick 2 – 3 day getaway from our work-driven lives in the LA area. We always stay at Pea Soup Andersen’s and hit up Ellen’s for breakfast before the round then for lunch afterwards!

Love this course. A fantastic design that never gets old it will challenge the best players and leave others wanting more. The conditions right now are fantastic with the course playing in its best form in years. Go! The only downside is the location… just a little too far from SB to be a daily drive but its such a great course that its well worth the occasional drive. And I never regret it as the pure golf challenge always leaves me satisfied if a little beat down. Definitely not a beginners course but it is playable for all levels. Dont trick yourself into thinking you can play the tips unless you’re a 5 or better as those extra yards are indeed a killer. Good job new owners! La P is a gem.

Great layout. Very interesting. Love the location and the many challenges. This golf course will force you to think! Only reason I didn’t give more stars is because some of the t boxes absolutely suck! The first par 3 from white tees has a huge hump in the middle of it. Fix these & my rating goes up by a star. Bunkers a little inconsistent too but not a big problem. We’ll be back. It is worth the drive from Somis. We do 36 once each summer then the hitching post for dinner.

Played this course last week. Generally challenging and long, with some holes with some narrow treelined fairways forcing you to be accurate. As previous poster mentioned the ninth hole is downhill par 3 with a narrow opening between trees to reach the green. If you make the opening but are short, the right side is heavily shaded with long grass and tree debris. Lost a ball in that mess. The greens for the most part are excellent, and tricky, I’d rate them a 9.5, the fairways are about a 7.5 to 8 and tee boxes an 8.5. Where in my opinion the course falls down is the rutted dirt cart paths and lack of signage. The place, while in a pretty setting, appears to be going downhill. We played on a weekday afternoon and saw maybe three other groups on the course. While that makes for fast play, it also shows they are not drawing enough in revenue to keep the course and facilities maintained in a first class manner. Be aware, afternoon winds can blow pretty good on the course. It is best played in the morning.

This is a great course. Its pretty idyllic, I know fancy big words coming from me. They have a long par 5 — 600 yards. There was no one here in front of us or behind us which made for a relaxed experience. A few gripes, the grill closed at 2 or 3. The ladies working the grill were less than competent. Also the course was undergoing a management change or ownership change. The golf was great, the service not so great.

Better be able to play a low shot, the wind machine turns on around 1200 everyday of the week and the greens run quick. Its a great track, difficult if you cant keep it close to the fairway due to the tough rough.

Great Course! I have played here for years and never get tired of it. It can get windy in the later afternoon, so best to get early and start your day. At some parts of the course you can see all the way to the ocean. There is a driving range, and small proshop. They also have a clubhouse that does some good tritip. If you plan on playing this course even just a few times a year it is worth it to get the players membership. Costs are very fair for quality you get.

Diamond in the hidden ruff. This course is beautiful. Food is outstanding too. Okay so we’re here again romping through Middle Cali doing what we do best and find this course in the mid of nowhere. Super low expectations but it has nothing to do with the overall review. This place would get 5 stars from me in my own backyard. Tee boxes are perfect, clean and level. Fairways look like the outfield of a baseball field and the greens roll true. No hoppy, bumpy rolls that you can expect from courses that don’t get much attention. We had two foursomes and a proposal on the 9th green… she said yes! Great day for golf and a proposal. oh yeah food is great too. We had Patty melt, BLT, Reuben and chicken tenders and they all were very well made. We’ll will surely be back. Watch out for the wind though later in the day… it can really blow on you.
