I went to La Sandia expecting Mexican food and got more what I would call Mexican fusion. I had tacos that were OK but didn’t really have much spice. The food had great flavor but I guess I prefer my Mexican different than the food I ate here. I also thought that the prices were a bit higher than should be for what you received. all in all good tasting food but just not something I would necessarily go back for. My friends seemed to like the drinks but cant comment as I did not have alcohol.

I absolutely loved their food. I had a Yucatan margarita and it was perfection. The Spanish rice was exactly as my moms. I ordered the cheese enchiladas and although I wished they were spicier the taste was authentic and the cheese was true Mexican cheese. We ordered the guacamole spicy and the Serrano paste was perfectly spicy for us. Things we didn’t like… The cucumber margarita its taste was more of a fresh cucumber water and less margarita and we had the ceviche(which had a different name) the octopus was chewy the rest of the fish and shrimp was cooked perfectly. The atmosphere was nice for a date night and the service was outstanding. We will be going back for sure.

Other than the patio upstairs I don’t find a lot of reasons to go to La Sandia. The food is tasty but pretty over priced for what you get and the service is atrocious. They take an astronomical amount of time to clear plates and not once did our waiter ask if our food was good. The table next to us left half way through our meals and 20 minutes later the table is still covered with dirty dishes and half eaten food. The only reason why this isn’t a 1 star review is because of the corn tamales.

I was so excited to go out to dinner to celebrate my 21st birthday, but I was extremely disappointed and sad after leaving la Sandia. Our waitress was distant and did nothing to make us feel special for the celebration(no tres leche cake, a drink, anything). Our chicken enchiladas were nothing special and a little cold on arrival. The only thing that may make me come back after this experience were the drinks. The beverage menu was extensive and the frozen margaritas were delicious. Overall, I really wished I would’ve picked a different restaurant to celebrate and feel special on my 21st birthday!

I have been here numerous times. My favorite items are no longer on the menu, the menu is really a bit boring. The carnitas were 50% fat, very greasy needed to be crisper. My husband got enchiladas tried all 3, really just meh. It has always been loud, but it was ear hurting loud. I think I don’t need to go back.

The food was excellent. Starting with the chips and salsa, they were fresh and home made. All the sauces were excellent with the meal.

Came in for dinner for 4 on Saturday night. Place didn’t look packed at all but took about 15 minutes for a table. The place is nicely decorated and the atmosphere was alright. The general manager came by as we got sat and gave us his card and told us he’s there if we needed anything. Thought it was weird, but I guess it wasn’t a bad thing. The food here is below average at best, actually its pretty bad. I got the shrimp fajita and everything on the plate was just so salty. Tried my wife’s tacos and they were also the same, just overly salted. The service here was also below average. No silverware at the table when we were sat. The server brought over the silverware after our food came out. He said he just took it out of the wash. Our food came out on time but wasn’t brought out by any of the servers but the guy that did looked like the dishwasher or something. I mean the guy was extremely nice, but coming out with a dirty, sweaty looking t shirt doesn’t make the food look appetizing. This place is just very very overpriced, probably because of the location and on a Saturday night, I was the idiot for picking this place because it looked like a hip Mexican place. $ 130 for 4 adults and some of us left still hungry. I would rather go to a small family owned Mexican restaurant any day next time.

When we enter La Sandía the place was looking good. The host was an Asian girl and she was a little rough. No smile, just asked us if we wanted a high chair for our baby. I felt she wasn’t having a good day. We ordered the appetizer potatoes with chorizo, those potatoes was reheated. My husband ask for a lemonade for our daughter. I tasted the«lemonade juice» and it tasted like the non alcoholic margarita mix that we buy at Costco. Extremely disappointed. My frozen margarita was like a lemonade Slurpee. Sorry guys! I feel my margarita had no alcohol. I won’t get started on the actual food, let’s just say Taco Bell feels more Mexican than this.
Anyways…You should improve the quality of your dishes ASAP! Rush!!! Terrible flavor and overpriced. The only thing that was amazing was our waitress Kirsten. She was amazing and super friendly.

We went to La Sandia several weeks ago and had a horrible experience. On a slow Sunday afternoon it took over a hour to get or order only to be delivered cold. The manager recognized the problem and gave us a free dinner coupon for a later date. I swore I would never go back! Fast forward a month, my wife said she wanted to go to La Sandia for Mothers Day. I could not exactly say no. Our server(Lee) was amazing! Lee kept drinks filled without ever being asked to, regularly checked to see if we needed anything, made recommendations on food and best of all… delivered our lunch hot. La Sandia has good food but a bad server can make people never come back. Lee is the exact opposite, we will return to La Sandia after swearing we never would. (I have never met Lee, just an honest opinion)

Delicious food but definitely not«authentic Mexican». I had the fish tacos and the queso fundido with chorizo appetizer and they were both DELICIOUS! The flavor was great and the plating was so cute! Also had their michelada and it’s probably one of the best I’ve ever had! Big fan of the location and atmosphere. I will say it’s a bit pricey(paid about $ 30 for 1) and their drink portions are a bit small, but regardless it still remains a must try spot.

Went here yesterday(a Sunday) afternoon with a party of four for a late lunch /early dinner. The outdoor seating upstairs has a gorgeous view. We ordered margaritas which is where we should have stopped ordering… Service: was terrible. We waited a long time to see a waiter for the first time and long periods in between. We had to ask for silverware 3 times before finally getting it after having our food in front of us with no utensils to eat it with for 5 – 10 minutes. The food: some ordered a cheese dip appetizer. What came to our table was the largest crock pot of cheese I’ve ever seen and the overall opinion was that it was just ok. Not even half was eaten as you’d need a party of 10 to come close to finishing it. Entrees were all half eaten at best and rated as sub par at best. Then, the $ 100 check came… So very overpriced for bad service and crappy food. We won’t be going back. Sorry La Sandia — I was really hoping for more from you.

I used to really love this place. I have come here for many happy hours and gatherings with friends. I have been here twice in the past month or so and both experiences have made me question ever coming back. First, both times have been to meet a friend for happy hour. The smell of dirty dish towel has been present upon walking in. Both times we were sat on the main floor to the immediate left. I guess this is where they seat people who show up for happy hour but it is unfortunate because the sun is always right in your eyes, the blinds do nothing to help and it is excruciatingly hot. Last night we were sat right next to a heater that was on despite it being 72 degrees outside. Needless to say we were uncomfortable. Both times our service has been shoddy. The first time our waiter changed three times without letting us know so we were confused why all these different people kept coming to our table. Last night our waitress was entirely unknowledgeable about the happy hour menu. When we asked her questions she just pointed and read directly off the menu, we could have done that. She also was slow to get us the bill, even more slow to change the incorrect bill and then ended up not even changing it. I’m assuming she thought we wouldn’t notice once it was split between the two of us. Which brings me to my next point of how in the world we could have spent $ 46 before tip when we each got a happy hour margarita, we had happy hour tacos which are supposed to be $ 2 each. We each had three so this should be only $ 12 and we split a dessert. We did have guacamole but that was supposed to be free because of the Unilocal check-in. It was on the bill, she said she removed it but never did. I have a bad taste in my mouth about spending $ 27 each with tip for three tiny tacos, a house margarita and a churro. I don’t think I’ll be back.

Alli, our server, was amazing! She was so attentive and very knowledgable about the menu. We also met the GM Patrick! Everyone here was super friendly. We very much enjoyed our experience here. The food was amazing! And they also give complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa was delicious. Would love to stop by again when I’m back in Colorado!

You may agree that a restaurant experience is typically more than the food. So, my 1-star review is more about the poor experiences I’ve had here and the bad taste it’s left. Granted I’ve only been here three times, and that’s enough to stop me from going back again. The food can be somewhat interesting if you venture a little to the more specialized dishes. But that’s all lost when your first impression is the apathetic hostesses who seem more annoyed you interrupted their conversation than greeting you and starting your evening off well. Strike one! The service on every occasion has been mediocre. Strike two! I just hate having to search for someone to ask for the check. Foul ball! Beware if you go to the rooftop for happy hour. We were told«happy hour» prices are only for people who are sitting out in the open — not under the shaded area of the rooftop patio. Very puzzling, as though there’s an imaginary line on the patio.(This was from a prior visit.) Foul ball! Now, remember when someone taught you to listen to your instincts? Remember that. I didn’t. In spite of the prior bad experiences, we were lured back in by «Free Handcrafted Cocktail» tokens I was given by a representative of this restaurant chain at a charity event. You see? Free is for suckers! If you didn’t like it when you paid for it, you won’t like it any better when it’s 2 for 1 or just because it’s free. No matter what. That’s always true. The«tokens» — more like very large bronze coins — were branded with the Richard Sandoval corporate logo and business name on one side, and the free offer on the reverse. We presented the four coins to the waiter prior to ordering so as not to create a problem with the bill later. The generosity of their representative at the charity event was completely lost on the management of the restaurant as he toiled, for what we thought was an extraordinary length of time, over the authenticity of the coins — as though I could have minted them in the basement earlier that day. After much deliberation, the waiter returned, agreed to honor the offer and encouraged us to try some of their high-end specialty cocktails. In the end there was a catch! To our surprise, the manager changed his mind and when the bill arrived we were informed that they decided to honor only two of the coins, leaving us on the hook for what we were told was complimentary. Strike 3! They’re out! A disappointing end to our anniversary dinner and the conclusion to our visits to this establishment or any Richard Sandoval restaurant.

Two friends and I came in for a late happy hour. I live in a city where Happy Hour is the go-to of going out during the week, but it seems in the DTC area happy hours stick to strictly 4 – 6 pm and are very drink based. La Sandia offered an attractive option of 2 pm — close during the week in the bar area, which included tables. We came in around 7 pm and found a table right away. Our server was extremely nice and brought us out some well needed frozen margaritas with complimentary chips and salsa. The happy hour food menu is a little bare, but what does one expect. My friends both got the 3 for $ 8 tacos and i opted for the nachos, adding the chicken tinga. Everything was OKAY but nothing I am dying to eat again. Food came out fast and we had a great time sitting and chatting. The atmosphere is cute in the restaurant but I don’t know if I would come for the«great» food. Restaurant seems to be a commercialized Mexican restaurant with entrees ranging from $ 14-$ 18. I bet their patio is beautiful in the summer.
