I think that this place is still open because it is right next to the Travelodge that caters to conventioneers and they have no clue about good Mexican food. I have been to this place three times in my travels to the LBC and each experience was way less than desirable. I took pictures of my take-out to prove it. I had thought that the worse Mexican food I’ve ever had was in Norcross. Georgia. Welp, Galeana’s Grill is HORRIBLE Mexican food… EVER. If one can fuck up rice and beans… they need to be shut DOWN! This is NOT a bustling spot. Of the times I’ve been here, I have always been the only customer. Daaaamn, is this a front for the Mexican mob? How can they survive serving sub-standard Mexican food otherwise? I asked the Latina housekeeping if I should get my Mexican dinner from Galeana’s or Super Mex. Hands down… it was Super Mex. MMMkay… So done with Galeana’s. Won’t be giving them my hard earned cash again. Leave that to the unsuspecting, drunkin’ conventioneers and the dudes breaking up over a sad ass Margarita at the table in the corner without nary a plate of food. Bottom line… This is NOT the go to place for LBC residents. Just tourists who have no clue. Unfortunately, they will go back to Georgia saying that they had some good, «Mes’can» food. /Face Palm. Hint/Clue…Go to SuperMex, right around the corner.

I live within a block from this place. I love good Mexican food. 1+1=… but it was a fail. The food was not good. The tortilla chips were warm and crispy, and the salsa was okay, but beyond that it was not worth the time it took to walk there. If you live in the area, save yourself from heartache(or perhaps a tummy ache) and go to SuperMex. At least they won’t try to serve you«margarita wine’

Today I got to meet some very special people, Luis and Nicole, the owners of Galeana’s Grill. On Christmas Day, Galeana’s Grill opened its doors to serve free breakfast(eggs, bacon, hash browns, toast, Juice and coffee) to the homeless from 9am-11am. When most of us are home opening presents, Luis and Nicole opened their hearts to give back to their community. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be blessed by your generosity and sincere hearts. Merry Christmas!

Avoid. A groupon got me to go try it. Bad vibe. Sad music. Poor service. Mediocre food. Only Spanish TV. No ESPN. Poor Health department report. No more drinks. Went on a Monday evening to spend our groupon with a group of 5. Asked for TV to be turned to NFL game but was told they don’t get ESPN. Only Spanish stations on dish network. What? Some in our group tried to order drinks off their drink menu. Told they are not currently serving alcohol. Asked if she just meant right now or if they would no longer be serving it. Server did not know. But table tents advertisements still promoted Margaritas. Why? We placed our order. Then never saw our server the rest of the night. Another guy starts bringing our food randomly. Not all at once. Finally, all are eating their meals except two of our group that ordered appetizers. They wait another 5 – 10 min for their soup an ceviche. How is that possible. We eat dinner with the sad music in the background. No football. No drinks. No server. No other customers. Very sad. On the way out take a peak at Health Department report. At least half the boxes under«Action Required» we’re checked. See no reason to go back.

This was the worst Mexican restaurant I have ever been to in my life. if i could put negative stars i would. when we went there for lunch, it took almost an hour for our food to come out… even though we were the ONLY customers there!!! not to mention, they actually brought the WRONG dish!!! next, when we actually tasted the food, it was SOOO salty that it made me gag. i seriously think something went wrong or somethig cuz it was not just«o this is a lil too salty» kind of salty. i;m talking about a NON edibe type. the type where you accidently put salt in my coffee when you thought it was sugar. we asked the waitress to come and taste it herself to see how wrong it was, she stated she was vegan and that she cant try it. we told her we just cant eat it and asked her to tae it back. after this whole issue, we were so SHOCKED to see that they still charged us for the item we took one BITE from AND never even offered a complimentary drink or dessert or ANYTHING! we were furious enough to write a review on Unilocal, which we have never done before.

Ever seen a game where the team starts off slow and then the team picks up their game at the end? The best word that I could think of about the service here is amateurish. Don’t tell the customer«I’m not really into beef» when he asks«how’s your beef enchilada special?» Don’t sit them in the room and forget to turn-on the lights and for that matter don’t forget to turn on the TV facing them especially when the rest of the staff is watch the other TV. Don’t just bring some more salsa when the chip basket is obviously empty. Even the food started at a low. The first dish was salsa, it didn’t really have much flavor other that an abundance of salt. By mid meal everything started to pickup. The enchilada, while not great had well season shredded beef and plenty of hot melted cheese, complimented with very good beans and not so bad rice. The waitress unexpectedly perked up and became personable and attentive — maybe they saw me taking pictures of their food? By the time we were leaving, I had the rest of staff thanking us for coming and asking us to be sure to come back. The waitress even smiled! Next time? Good enough finish to make me want to give them another try.

My military career took me all over the world and I’ve eaten at a lot of restaurants. I have to say this is the best mexican food I’ve ever had. Everything tasted so fresh I went back the next night for more! Say hello to the staff, they are really friendly!!!

This restaurant has the most crap Mexican food I have ever tasted! If I could give this place negative stars I would! The carnitas were microwaved, dry, and chewy… ewwwww! The menudo is a JOKE!!! I went there at 9:00 am and they told me it was on its way… WHAT? Menudo is a weekend breakfast special… not lunch. They said it was homemade… first I thought, «I don’t think that’s legal to do,» but then I thought it must really be good, because probably some old Mexican lady was making it at home in her own kitchen. OMG… WHAT A JOKE! I waited fifteen minutes until some lady showed up with the menudo-meat only-in a plastic bag. She went in the kitchen and basically boiled some water, added menudo spice to it, let it come to a boil, and added the non-seasoned meat… NOTEVENANYPOZOLE!!! They call that menudo??? You can buy better in a can at the grocery store! Go there if you want to smell like their dirty, greasy, food exhaust for the rest of the day. Galeana’s Grill grill is a laughable excuse for a Mexican restaurant… case in point… WHAT Mexican restaurant doesn’t have limes??? Don’t waste your time, money, or clean smelling clothes! The people were nice, but being nice is no substitute for food… and the food wasn’t even mediocre… it was below substandard at best.

This place was delicious. I love there gourmet style food. So much flavor, We went with a group of friends had the ceviche for an app. it was so fresh and great. For dinner I had the salmon on top of mashed potatoes with chipotle sauce and my husband had the steak with cranberry made sauce 2 thumbs up!!! it was to soooo good! There deserts were also amazing I ordered the flan also made from scratch it was the cherry on top of this whole dinning experience. The wait is a little longer then other places but the wait was worth the food! I will definately be coming back here and recommending friends.

I’ve gone back and had the carnitas plate, the shrimp tacos and the heuvo rancheros. The carnitas and shrimp tacos are satisfactory, but not special. The huevo rancheros, however, can be out of this world great(with the $ 1 extra for the chile verde topping), but sometimes it’s not special — and I would say it would depend on the chile verde topping on that given day.

Well… lets start with the guacamole. It wasnt anything special. Topped with shredded cheese almost no flavor. The salas was soupy with a bit of spice. Dripped all over the table. Orderd Shrimp tacos Combo plate. The tacos are decent but the rice and beans kinda suck. They also have a weird taste and/or smell to them. This place is fine if ur really buzzd and don’t care what the food taste like. I don’t think ill ever come back. Too bad. The girl was nice. My dad ordered the Breakfest Burrito. He says its«Pretty Good». Very hot and full of eggs. Good luck Im not coming back for more. Blah*

What saved this place from a 2 star was the super friendliness of the waitress and the taste of the food. Galeana’s Grill is located on Atlantic, to the side of a motel. You can park inside the parking lot for free which is nice. We brought our puppy out for a stroll and decided to use the Living Social coupon I’d bought for this place. I went inside to ask if we could side outside with puppy– and boy was I glad we’d brought her! The inside of the restaurant was like a sauna, hot and muggy. Outside was much much cooler. We didn’t have very high expectations but they started off on a okay foot. The chips weren’t stale and although the salsa was more hot saucy than chunky, it gave us something to munch on. The guacamole that came with our coupon was tiny– about the size of a dipping cup, which is what it was served in. It had a lot of avocado at least. We ordered the ceviche which came in a cocktail glass and was surprisingly good. Fresh limey taste with giant shrimps, it was a nice starter with the tortilla chips. For entrees, K got the chicken penne pasta which was a decently large portion but with no sides. K liked it(he likes everything chicken) and it tasted good but average to me. I got the pork carnitas which came with three small tortillas. I swapped my rice and beans out for chicken tortilla soup(which they still charged me an extra $ 2.50 for? I didn’t get that, since I have no sides still.) The soup was funny tasting, off seasoned and bland. The carnitas were juicy and flavourful but as I got to my second tortilla, the saltiness became a bit overwhelming. I still liked the taste of fatty fatty pork though.(oink oink) It’s something different that’s walkable although I don’t know how it’ll survive with neighbors like SuperMex or cheap alternatives like Hole Mole. If you’re in downtown for business, it gives you something to walk to though. Plus, the server is pretty sweet.

So I got a living social for this place. I love me some Mexican food, so anytime I see one of these they get scooped up. It’s a fairly small place, but the décor is very Mexican and colorful with pictures of frida calo. I love it. As for the food, I got the carnitas place, nothing special. The carnitas were a bit over seasoned, but I prefer my carnitas over seasoned vs. under, so I guess that works just fine. The rice and beans were nothing special, not from a can, but they could have been better. It’s not good Mexican food, but it’s not bad, I would label mediocre. My boyfriend got a Caesar salad with a cilantro dressing; I will say that was good, better than expected. The bf does not like cilantro, but the taste was not overpowering and quite tangy. As for the staff, they were nice and accommodating, the place was not too busy. Not so sure I would go back though if it were not for the deal I got. I’ve had better Mexican food elsewhere

I live right across the street from this place and was glad to see the abandoned Margaritaville reused as something. I highly recommend the carnitas plate with regular beans and flour tortillas… the carnitas are smoky and delicious… and not at all dry. Really juicy and fatty(and I mean fatty in the best way possible). Friendly people but not much vibe… needs more business obviously to wake it up a bit. They get extra points for easily accommodating my friend’s strange dietary request… unlike say Hole Mole for instance, who served a smaller than normal portion for 50% more money with a free side of ‘tude. Give it a shot. I’m white as the driven snow, so god knows if this stuff is muy autentico… anyway, I think it’s good and I go at least a couple times a month for takeout.

Came here for a quick bite because I was staying at the Travelodge and my gf and I were hungry. We were sat down after a couple minutes and were served chips and salsa. We were in a hurry so we ordered 2 appetizers that you could never go wrong with nachos and jalapeño poppers. I though all of it was pretty ok what liked about the nachos was it had frijoles de la olla on them. It looked like there was a graduation celebration going on so we were being kind of ignored. What really killed it for me and this place was my gf wanted some ranch for the jalapeño poppers, it came with a side of a sauce that tasted like ranch got romped by chipotle which was ok, but the gf hated it. Anyways no one came to our table nor did it look like anyone was willing to help us even though it looked like two older ladies that sat next two us were being served by some one who was not a waiter. So at the end of the day each appetizer was about $ 8, they were ok but the service killed it.

I really wish I could say better things about this place but the food I had there recently was not very flavorful. The service was nice but no amount of that could make up for the food. The shredded beef I had seriously tasted and appeared as if it had been in a steam tray the whole day. It just wasn’t good.

Well, I feel kind of bad giving this place one star, because it is a mom-and-pop and everyone there was very kind. But when I went, the food was very bad. It was what Mexican food in Nebraska might taste like– bland, inauthentic, not the best ingredients. The salsa had an interesting flavor, but it had no spice. My sandwich came without the onion, chipotle pesto or avocado listed on the menu, but the chicken was mediocre quality and it was pretty greasy– so I didn’t even bother to correct the chef, as it was already beyond fixing. The burrito and quesadilla got poor reviews from my friends, and nobody finished their food at my table. The menu offerings look very good on paper, but I think the owners seriously need to re-evaluate their ingredients and preparation if they are going to compete with the other Mexican restaurants in Long Beach.
