If you’re tired of Mexican food, but wants to have that somewhat kind of taste, then you should check this place up cause it’s gooodd! My girlfriend and I want to try something new for our weekly food trips, so we tried having lunch in this joint cause it’s close to our place and we never tried Honduras food before. First of all, the ambiance inside is a sport’s bar feeling with huge televisions featuring sports and local news. Our server Maria is very accommodating since it’s our first time. She first serve us some juice samplers cause we don’t know what fresh juice to order. She got us corn chips with their homemade tomato salsa. It is really unique cause their salsa tasted like almost a gravy type with sprinkled powdered cheese on it. All their juice samplers are pretty good and we decided to ordered the Guanabana and Passion fruit for my girl. The Guanabana juice is so refreshing and tasted like cherry with vanilla flavor mild flavor in it. The Passion Fruit juice in the other hand taste like a mixture of different fruit, but you can still taste the passion fruit. We ordered an appetizer as well called Pastelito. It is serve with pickled onions for the pickled flavoring to compliment the fried looking meat pie, it is pretty good! Now it’s the fun part, the main dishes! Their are 3 popular dishes that they serve; Pollo Mesapa, Bisteak Encebollado, and Arroz con Pollo. I ordered Bisteak Encebollado, which is meaty and flavorful. The ingredients are pickled veggies, fried beans, yellow rice on the sides, and the steak on the middle. The mixture of the sides complimented each other, which made me enjoy this dish. My girlfriend ordered Arroz con Pollo which is basically chicken and rice with spices in it plus 2 toasted bread and pickled veggies on the side. The Arroz con Pollo tasted like chicken noodle soup without the soup and pasta; instead they put on it. It is delicious and one of a kind. It is their best dish of 1995 from the LA Times! Overall, we’ll definitely comeback and want to try their breakfast menu next.

My friends and I really enjoyed this place. At first we were a little skeptical. The restraunt was empty and the waiter took awhile to even offer us water. Finally we started our experience and everything was awesome. The waiter was very informative as we had never had Honduras food before and the food was delicious!

Came here to have dinner on Christmas Day. Really happy they were opened because I’ve been meaning to come here and clearly tonight was the night. After I ordered they brought these really delicious chips with some sauce and Parmesan on it. They were complementary and tasted really good. I decided to order a pastelito as an appetizer. It’s pretty much an empanada but with rice and potatoes inside of it. It was good but the meat and rice were still kinda cold. Then for my entrée I ordered the bistec encebollado which was good but not great. The rice wasn’t moist, some of the banana chips were cold some were hot, lots of onions. Overall it was an okay experience. I’m willing to comeback again and give it another chance since I came in on Christmas right before closing.

I bid on a gift card during a KPCC fundraiser, and this afternoon my husband and I finally headed up to Long Beach for a very early dinner. The restaurant interior is modest, but they have made the effort to dress it up with linen tablecloths, photographs of Honduras, and a lovely large mural of the country. Our server was friendly and attentive. She was great at explaining the different dishes and cooking methods. We received absolutely stellar service. And then there was the food. Oh boy, was it full of flavor! Their tortilla chips come in a small basket with Honduran salsa(on the chips but they are not soaked) and a dry cheese that I think is a type of goat cheese. A completely unique flavor from the sauce and cheese make these an absolute must! I ordered the fried yuca with ground beef, and my plate came with pickled onions(super!), shredded cabbage, and diced veggies(like pico de gallo). Imagine a tostada served on top of seasoned french fried – only ten times better! My husband ordered the steak and veg on a skewer, which came with shredded cabbage, rice and refried beans(better than any I’ve ever had), and ripe grilled plantains. He loved everything(especially those chips!), including his passionfruit juice drink. Before or after your meal, you could also spend some time doing a little shopping at the cool antiques and thrift stores on this small stretch of Fourth Street.

It turns out the old adage«don’t judge a book by its cover» also applies to restaurants. Do not be deterred by the lackluster street presence! Honduras’ Kitchen has phenomenal food(a culinary experience for those who have never tried Honduran food!) at reasonable prices. Even the chips they bring to your table — seasoned with a special sauce and salty cheese — are incredible. Ah. And try the balleadas. Much love for Honduras’ Kitchen.

I had delivery today and completely let down. The delivery service was fast and he was extra polite. I love delivery anything. I ordered the Arroz con Pollo — just a let down. It was bland. Some of the chicken tasted old… the rice was fluffy, but the chicken ruined it for me. The cabbage salad was bland. Needed more vinegar. Super bland and lacked salt. I also tried the pastilito — all I could take was the dough… the meat inside. nothing. So sad. The plantains were good, a little greasy, but good. For a $ 1.99 you got the smallest coke… Maybe it was their off day or change in chef… but it was all super bland. Boo

I made the mistake to check this place out before going to the beach — wrong move. I wanted to try everything they had to offer: their menu is incredible and their food is terribly tasty, although a bit on the heavy side. Try the taco hondureno and the plantains stuffed with beef and cheese — filling, delightful and cheap.

«Im not from around here…» this cat says softly as he finds himself unsure of where he is as his two friends local to Long Beach drive him and his two bay area friends to a strange location insisting it is an amazing place to eat. This was the situation I found myself in as a vacation away with two friends led me to Honduras Kitchen in Long Beach, This was something a bit new to me. Honduran food? You would think a cat from the bay area like me would have experienced this given the array of food we have there, but this was something I had yet to try. Upon entry, we noted that we were the only customers. Apparently, we had entered when they weren’t quite open yet(oops!), but the waitress was very kind and sat us. The menu here was quite vast with many things I hadn’t seen or heard of before. upon noting that the Arroz Con Pollo was rated the«LA times best dish», me and my friend decided to give it a try. We were given water and chips, and I must say something about these chips! They are quite addicting! Me and my friends downed those chips quickly and wondered about what sort of cheese and sauce was on them as they were absolutely delicious. The food took a little bit of time to come out, but of course that was understandable as we had basically come in right as they were opening, and it seemed they only had a small staff working. But I will say that it was very well worth the wait. This dish is easily one of my top 5 dishes I have had in my travels about and was also unexpected and surprising. Absolutely brilliant flavor and wonderfully filling(and I mean filling! VERY big portions are served here! if you are not a big eater, split this for two!) Everyone in my group was very satisfied with the food as well as the service and we left happy and speaking among each other at how good of a meal it was. I don’t find my way to Long Beach very much, but for sure if I end up in this city again, I will go to Honduras Kitchen again! Highly recommended! *chirp!*

Service: I enjoyed our server. She was happy, social, calm and collected. Food: FREAKING delicious. I ordered the arroz con pollo which I kind of expected to be boring. I mean it’s chicken and rice. Little did I know that they give you a twist here. On my plate was toast, cabbage and the chicken with rice. I started with the toast. It was slightly toasted and still soft which I liked. Then I ate the cabbage concoction. Bam! When I said they give you a twist here I was talking about lemon. They twisted a shit ton in that cabbage and it was a fun surprise. Then I finished with the actual Arroz Con Pollo. Honestly, when I sit here as I type this thinking about it I get kind of overwhelmed so I’ll just say there’s nothing bad about it because I enjoyed so much of it. Environment: No windows but spacious on the inside. They were on the«love» station on pandora so the music was a bit awkward with my friend because no one else was there. Overall good experience, I’ll come back and also recommend this place.

Worst customer ever! False advertising! Came here for dinner one night and had dinner. There was 4 of us dining. We got 2 groupon vouchers each good for 2 people. I called the restaurant before going to tell them that we had purchased the vouchers & once we arrived at the restaurant I once again showed the waiter the voucher before ordering. After we ordered and finished the meal, we were told due to the ‘fine print’ if we sat at 2 tables instead of the 1 table, we could use the 2 vouchers but because we sat at the same table, they would not take the vouchers. Wow! What a false advertising and not being upfront and honest about things. BEWARE! Dishonest business owner!

Bomb food and pretty good serving sizes. Free chips with beans and cheese while you wait for your food. Yummy jugos(juices) that they make there. I got beef and the husband got chicken. Both were really good and we had enough for 2 meals the next day. Overall, food is really good and I would eat here again.

We came in on New Years, so maybe the kitchen wasn’t expecting many people. Or any people. Half our stuff came out cold, the other half sort of lukewarm, which was weird because we were one of two groups in the whole restaurant, so you’d think the cook could plan how they came out. My whole pollo mesapa — cabbage and chicken and bananas and onions and all — was slathered in Thousand Island dressing. What is it with South/Central American food and Thousand Island dressing? There is a story in this, I’m sure, but I’m leery of investigating it because after this meal and the one at Sabor Colombiano in LA, I never want to see, smell, or think about it ever again. Thousand Island aside, the chicken was well-cooked for the most part, and the skin was crispy, except for on the underside where it got thick and soggy with dressing. Julian’s split plantain — $ 7 worth — was nothing more than a plantain on a plate with a pile of beans and a squirty spiral of crema. Our waitress was really sweet and seemed harried. I felt bad for her, especially when it became obvious that we didn’t really like our food.

I bought a Groupon deal here — $ 11 for $ 22 of food, which is very handy considering most of the entrees are $ 11. My friend and I went and we only had to pay for tax and tip which was very nice. I got a steak plate with beans, rice, cabbage salad, and plantains. It was very delicious! The steak was very tender and cooked perfectly. However, I think my favorite part of the dish was the plantains. They were crispy on the outside yet very soft on the inside. They complimented the saltiness of the steak very well. The cabbage salad provided a much needed element of freshness and crisp texture. Prior to ordering, you get complimentary chips which have some sort of salsa and cheese on top. These were very tasty and were a good touch to the meal. The service here was exceptional. Granted, my friend and I were the only customers on a Monday evening, but still, the staff were very friendly, helpful, and attentive. The restaurant is clean and spacious. There are TVs to watch the game, which was very nice. But, I’m not a fan of the purple/green lighting though. The restaurant is in kind of a sketchy neighborhood, so beware of that.

So good the Chip are addicting! Then we had Pastelito with picked onions, vary good! Crunchy and full of meat. Got to try Honduran beer my Favorite was the Port Royal, it like Mexican beer. Waitress choice for my food was the Bisteak Encebollado, WOW it was good. Lot of meat! Good onions, love the Ripe Platain & green Platain. I’ll be back!
