I visited Java for the very first time about a month ago while helping out on a video shoot downtown — and what a lovely surprise! My sandwich was so delicious! Everything was fresh and yummy and owner Jonathan Selsick was so cool. The only bummer is that it’s not open on weekends! But if you’re downtown and looking for something fresh and well made check this little spot out. It’s a gem with very reasonable prices. Oh, gee, now I’m hungry…

I love this little deli in Long Beach. They make croissants, pastries, bagels, and pizza calzones all fresh daily. I love their jalapeño pizza cal zones or their breakfast bagel which is served all day long! The price is fantastic and if you work or live in Downtown Long Beach you know it’s pricey to eat out all the time. This place won’t break the bank and has great healthy and tasty foods. The owner and all of his employees are also so nice. Make sure to come in and try out some of their creations. It’s just a quaint deli with quality food for a great price. There’s really no parking lot so park on the street at the meters.

I really like the blueberry muffins at 7 – 11, but they don’t have them very often. One morning I took a gamble and checked this place out. It seems a bit shady from outside, but inside it’s very nice: large and clean and mordern, with a lot of light(it’s in an old building). They had FANTASTIC blueberry muffins. Definitely better than 7 – 11’s, and not that much more expensive. It even had streudel on top. I also picked up a bottle of tea. I didn’t have time to browse but I noticed they had an expansive menu. I will definitely return soon.

I love this place. I am not a morning person and can rarely function without coffee, or wake up early enough to make it, so I often take a stroll over to Java Deli for my morning caffeine fix. The place is relatively new and has an open, welcoming feel. Staff is extremely friendly. Coffee is delicious as are the pastries. The muffins are my personal fave. A while back I discovered that they also serve lunch. The premade salads and sandwiches are great, and pretty fast AND inexpensive! I tried a hot sandwich once and it too was wonderful. I am yet to try the pizza or the smoothies. Not to mention they also have free wi-fi. I don’t even bother with the other local coffee shops anymore because I prefer my morning coffee with cream, sugar, AND a smile(cheesy, i know). These guys rock.

To help myself(finally) finish up my dissertation by the end of this summer, I decided I needed a naturally light and breezy office space where I can sit and research and write, write, write for hours on end and not feel like a total hermit in a cave. I found the best space ever in an old office building downtown, and fortuitously, there’s a wonderful coffee shop and deli located inside on the bottom floor. The coffee suits me just perfectly when I need my 3 pm pick-me-up, and though I haven’t tried them yet, the pastries, sandwiches, and pizzas look pretty darn good. I just found out today from the owner, Jonathan, a friendly and helpful South African fellow, that he and his staff bake and prepare all of their food items. Fresh, convenient, friendly, bright and independent – all of the things I like in a good coffeeshop and deli, and Java Deli’s got them down. FYI, Java Deli is only open during«office hours» on weekdays, but I tell you, this place blows Starbucks and all other downtown coffeeshops away.
