It was one of my favorite restaurants. Ate here so many times, so many great occasions. Miss this place and some of the best food.

I’ve noticed only older crowds here. Not that it’s a bad thing! I just think people come here more for nostalgia, than for the actual food. I know that Jimmy’s has been around in Long Beach for a reaaally long time. The food was pretty mediocre in my opinion; nothing extraordinary!

Marketplace Shopping Center location — CLOSEDFOREVER! We went there Thursday, Dec 2 and there is a sign on the door saying he has closed the restaurant. Looks like forever, although it would be worth finding out if it re-opens someday. This was a nice place with good food, too bad it’s gone. This rating is for the restaurant in the plaza at the corner of PCH and 2nd Street, not the one in Long Beach.

As you transition from Seal Beach in the OC into Long Beach in the LAC and before all of the shops and expensive beach front properties in Naples, there a great restaurant called Jimmy’s Fish & Grill. Located in The Market Place Shopping Center, take Shopkeeper Road to the end and you’ll see Jimmy’s to your right behind the movie theatres. If your favorite seafood restaurant is Red Lobster, you’ll never go back once you try Jimmy’s. Jimmy’s has been a personal favorite for almost 20 years. As you walk up to the restaurant, you feel like you’re entering a tropical seaside resort. The awning colors are pastoral green and white. There is lush tropical plant life on the patio, and the essence of the ocean not too far away. As you open the double doors, you immediately smell the mesquite grill in all its glory. The kitchen is exhibition style so the flames from the grill often dance around as they prepare the fish and seafood. The service staff always greets with a smile and takes care of you like you’re at home. The interior décor is very nautical. It includes everything from boat parts to mounted fish hanging on the walls. As your drink order is taken, a round loaf of sourdough bread is delivered piping hot, crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Don’t forget to put some butter on when it’s hot so it can melt and seep into all of the chewy nooks and crannies. For appetizers, the Bluepoint oysters on the half shell are the best around. They were sweet and clean, served with cocktail sauce, dab of horseradish, and lemon if you need it. Most of the entrees come with your choice of soup or salad, veggies, and an extra side. The pastas come with garlic bread and a cup of soup. Jimmy’s has the best Caesar Salad dressing in North America. It’s packed with tons of flavor and has a special kick of horseradish at the end. Add a little bit of freshly cracked pepper courtesy of your server and you’re good to go. The New England Clam Chowder is the best in California — sorry San Francisco! It was creamy and brimming to the rim in flavor. Finely chopped celery and onion really bring out the sweetness of clams. And there was also no shortage of clams in this chowder. Every spoonful from first to last had a perfect amount of clams so no digging required. Jimmy’s menu is printed daily so you know that you can choose from the freshest fish of the day. The first entrée was the fresh Atlantic salmon with steamed broccoli and cauliflower. Mesquite-grilled to seal in the flavor, the salmon was firm and juicy. If you like Salmon Skin rolls at sushi bars, don’t forget to eat the skin off of the salmon here. The mesquite grill adds a nice smoky flavor so it tastes like bacon, just not as bad for you. The veggies were perfectly steamed and great with a little dash of salt and pepper. The second entrée was the swordfish with steamed broccoli, cauliflower, and baked red potatoes. The swordfish was tender but firm and succulent with just the right amount of seasoning. The red potatoes were cooked just right, soft and smooth in the middle. The third entrée was seared ahi with steamed broccoli, cauliflower, and baked red potatoes. The ahi was perfectly seared, nice grill marks on the outside but leaving the fish cool in the center. Jimmy’s uses sashimi grade Ahi so you know it’s going to be good. The fourth entrée was the Shrimp Scampi Pasta. Angel hair pasta tossed in scampi butter sauce with huge shrimp, garlic, onions, and capers. The shrimp were perfectly cooked, crisp and sweet. Don’t forget about the garlic bread. It’s to die for! You’ll need a doggie bag for this entrée and tastes great the next day. Warm up the pasta in the microwave and put the garlic bread in the toaster oven. It tastes just as good as the first time. The only sad thing was that they do not have their signature cappuccino anymore. It was the best restaurant cappuccino in California. It had a shot of coffee liquor in it and just melded the espresso and milk together. Jimmy’s, we really miss it! If you’re looking for a great seafood restaurant, drive on down to Jimmy’s. Be adventurous and see that Red Lobster isn’t the end all, be all in the seafood restaurant business.

I’ve visited this place several times with my boyfriend and never once had a bad experience. The food is great, reasonably priced and the service is amazing, the only downside is that they close pretty early(9pm I think)

I just went to this place last weekend while visiting my parents. They are usually picky fish people, so I figured if they chose it, it would be good. Wrong! The minute we drove up, I knew it wouldn’t be. A Friday night at 6pm and two servers were outside folding napkins and gossiping. The décor reminded me of an old folks home I used to work in and the food wasn’t any better. I ordered the halibut, which came with clam chowder and steamed veggies. None of it was good, it was mushy and bland. The only good part was the waiter and busboy kept refilling my shirley temple, but 2 of 3 times there was gook in the glass. I will not go back again.

slow slide into the abyss Jimmy’s has been a Mother’s Day tradition for years and every year the interior looks older and food gets more sloppy. Looks like they refuse to put the necessary investment to keep this restaurant looking fresh and alive and happening. We are going to be starting a new Mother’s Day tradition

I have been eating at Jimmy’s going back to the mid 80’s and can truly say I have never had a bad meal. I will also be upfront and say that we consider the Original Fish Company in Los Alamitos to be the«Gold Standard» for fish. However after reading the recent reviews I knew a trip was necessary to see if something has changed. So on 6⁄24 we made plans for dinner and took a friend with us. He was never a fish eater and we encouraged him to come along and try some fish with us. We recommended a few for him to consider knowing which ones would be good for a newbie. But before I get into our experience I have to take exception to a few reviews. First for Lawrence 6÷10÷09 — I feel you didn’t know what you were ordering. Mahi mahi is a very mild and bland tasting fish. It is one type of fish used in fish tacos so not to give a big fishy taste. The same would go for your girlfriend’s tilapia. And what in the world did you expect from steamed vegetables anyway? They are bland. I think you should order your fish blackend so you can get the flavor you are looking for. Next for veronica q. 8÷4÷08 — the fish market closed due to excessive rent increase. You can still buy fresh fish from the restaurant and chowder to go. The fish market did not supply the restaurant with the chowder it was the other way around. The market was only an outlet for the fish being served at the restaurant to offer patrons fresh fish to take home. For Paul F. 6÷13÷08 — the comments on the Ahi seemed off base. When Ahi is seared on all sides the center is going to be raw and somewhat cold. What did you expect? I think you should have inquired before ordering. Don’t fault the restaurant for your lack of knowledge. Now for our experience. We arrived about 5:45pm and got seated right away. The restaurant was filled with a good crowd and yes most were there for the early bird dinners. I see nothing wrong with that in today times. As with most of the reviewers the sourdough bread is excellent. It arrives at your table partially cut into slices and very warm. Tear off a piece and spread some butter on it. Our server came by right after the bread arrived and took our drink order. When she arrived with the drinks she took our order. Our friend ordered his first fresh Alaskan Halibut dinner. I ordered the chile crusted halibut and my wife ordered the halibut from the light meal menu. We all opted for the New England Clam Chowder. I found the flavor to be as good as I remembered. It was hot and thick. My only complaint would be I felt it had too many potatoes in it. It is not Fish Co. quality but a very close second. The Alaskan halibut dinners arrived. Both our friend and I opted to change our sides to potato salad and coleslaw instead of steamed veggies. The light meal dinner only allowed for one side and my wife chose boiled potatoes. The sauce on my chile crusted halibut was fantastic. Tons of flavor with a hint of after burner that was perfect for me. We all enjoyed our meals very much. Our friend enjoyed his first halibut dinner so much he cleaned the plate. The quality of the meals is right up there with Fish Co. Now for our experience with dessert. Our friend and my wife shared a cheese cake which they remarked on how good it was. I ordered the red velvet 4-layer cake. It was excellent. We would highly recommend both items to anyone who has room for dessert after enjoying one of the great meals at Jimmy’s. There was absolutely nothing wrong with our dining experience at Jimmy’s. The service and attitude of all employee’s encountered was excellent. The quality of the food was top notch. The only down side was my earlier comment about the chowder but I would still order it again as it was full of flavor. Yes would and will recommend Jimmy’s Fish & Grill to anyone who wants to have a good fish dinner and pleasant dining experience.

This place is for old people. It’s like those places that haven’t changed in like 20 years and that’s the way peope like it. The décor is very early 90’s. I came here for dinner and the highlight of my dining experience here was my appetizer and my side. The steamed artichoke and my baked potatoe. The mahi mahi i ordered was pretty bland like if I were to cook it myself. And the steamed veggies it came with were boring. My girlfriend got the Ecuadorian Talapia and it was pretty bland as well. Nothing was that great here. I did chew on some sand in my clam chowder so that probably meant it was made from real clams.

Went to this place for lunch with a friend. Since I am a sushi person, and this is definitely cooked fish, I knew what I was getting into. The day was gorgeous, and we sat outside. It was nice. Service was good. I got the angel hair pasta with dinner salad. The salad was typical restaurant salad, and I definitely should have asked for the dressing on the side… it was liberally doused. I thought my pasta was pretty decent. My complaint(and it is my fault) is that it had olives in it, and I should have asked for no olives. I mean, it was covered in olives… every bite had like two or three black olives pieces. The sourdough bread was good. I think next time I will order what my friend got… the fish tacos, which looked really good, and had no olives!

What a bummer with the reviews! I guess for some people its a ‘hit or miss!’ Fortunately, everytime we’ve dined here this place has been superb dining experience. Seafood: — A Large array of items on the menu. Basically everything, but whale(lol) — I usually ordered the Tilapia dinner, but recently became a converter of the golden fried shrimp! Till this day, no one has come close to preparing better than these guys. — BEST Sourdough bread! Hands down. If you find a better place, LETMEKNOW… Dessert: Its okay, definitely not the best. Skip this part. Service: Top Notch, everyone is helpful and friendly

We decided to go to Jimmy’s because we were given a gift certificate. I was excited because I loved the clam chowder and fresh seafood from the Jimmy’s fish market(now closed) around the corner. I think they supplied the fish for the restaurant. The restaurant was like stepping into a Fort Lauderdale nursing home. It was extremely depressing. I ordered the clam chowder and an order of steamed mussels. So gross. The clam chowder was nothing like the fish market’s. It was extremely bland and served with with what appaeared to be god-awful frozen garlic bread. The mussels were rubbery, cold, and bland. An elderly man next to us kept hacking up something. Maybe he was smart and was hacking up his dinner. I should have known. I had no interest in ordering anything else. I don’t think I’ll come back here ever again even if I have a gift certificate.

i used to love this spot, about 7 years ago, when Thresher Shark was a menu staple… since they took it off, it’s gone a bit downhill for me, personally… they DO have great salad dressings, pilaf and mashed potatoes. the prices are above reasonable for the quality of the fish. good service and a pleasurable atmosphere make this slightly-above mediocre seafood spot enjoyable. i still go there, because, depsite not being a 5 star joint, it IS consistent and it HITS the SPOT, if you seafood lovers know what i mean! enjoyyyy! xo– andrea

We tried this because a friend recommended this place to us. I guess I should start with what’s good about this place. It has a large lot with plenty of parking. We were seated promptly and throughout the evening, the service was excellent and very polite. The restaurant is open and bright. It did not have an intimate feel to it. The main color in the restaurant is white and they have a moderate amount of nautical themed decorations. The tables and booths were rather plain. It kind of felt like an upscale coffee shop. The high point of the meal was the warm sourdough bread. The dinner salad was a generous potion of mixed greens, but my wife and I both requested balsamic vinaigrette. What showed up was a small bottle of oil and a small bottle of balsamic vinegar. I was really expecting a pre-mixed dressing. The rest of the meal was really a disaster, I ordered the scallop skewers and my wife ordered the Ahi. She ordered her Ahi medium rare, with the expectation that this would be a little more done that the traditional«seared» Ahi. It came out lightly seared, if you could call it seared. The center was raw and ice cold. The fish was VERY bland. In all the time I have known her, I have never seen her pick up a salt shaker. She salted and peppered this fish just to give it some flavor. My scallops were luke warm and rubbery. We both ordered red potatoes. They are simply boiled potatoes, no seasoning. The vegetables(broccoli and cauliflower) were actually cooked rather well. My wife did not finish her meal, and was offered a box for what was left over and she accepted. When we got home she decided that the fish could not be salvaged, and threw it out. I’m sure that this place appeals to some, but I don’t like paying around $ 70 for a dinner that was«Denny’s» quality. We are not planning a return visit to this place.

The seafood is very good at Jimmy’s, and you have to be in the mood for seafood as there are only a couple of token non-fish items on the menu. As noted by the prior reviewers, the crowd is usually older, but the food is really good. Our friends and family love the sourdough bread, which is served hot and there is plenty of it. Dinner comes with a bowl of chowder(red or white) that is soooo gooood that it is a meal in itself. You can also opt for the salad, which is likewise very good. In fact, unless you have a big appetite, you have to be careful not to fill up on the soup or salad and bread before your entrée arrives. I almost always get the halibut and my wife gets the shrimp skewer or the stuffed shrimp. Jimmy’s has wine, but not a full bar. Corkage is reasonable at $ 8.00, so stop in at Trader Joe’s or BevMo in the same shopping center, pick up one of your favorites and bring it over and save a few bucks. Dinner for two is about $ 65 or $ 70 including tax and tip if you bring your own wine. The early bird specials are a great value up until 6 pm with a selection of entrees from the regular menu for about $ 17. We usually eat outside unless it is really cold.

I went here for lunch the other day. If you want to eat with the senior citizens this is the place to be. The clam chowder and shrimp and advocado BLT was pretty good if you don’t mind spending $ 20 for lunch. I am fat and allowed to spend that much. Service was good. A group of old ladies were having lunch together and one of the old ladies brings her new 85 year old bf along to show him off. Exciting. Another lady was being seated and was complaining to her friend that this wasn’t one of her favorite restuarants. Cool. I love old peeps. But if you love food go to the Fish Company is Los Alamitos.

Quality seafood at realistic prices. Reservations are honored, allowing you to avoid a 45 minute wait at the bar(can you say Walt’s Wharf?). The clam chowder is above average as is the food presentation and service. It is not a «happening» place if you are looking for lots of noise. If however, you are looking for a restaurant where the food is the«happening,» stop here.
