McKinley William Elementary School

Worst thing about this school isn’t about the school. It’s the parking. What is this… college? Why is it so diffcult to find parking? I can blame the limited parking spaces due to the apartment buildings nearby, but let’s be honest, most of these parents don’t need to park and walk their kid to the entrance unless the kid is in kindergarten. We don’t need to stand face pressed up the chain link just to get a glimpse of your kid eating breakfast in the cafeteria.
There is a solution that the school has provided… the «drop off zone», which is an area coned off every morning with the help of a couple students who direct cars to move forward and even open doors when you pull up along side the curb. Ya know, I can’t blame parents for not wanting to use the drop off zone. I prefer to double park, get a ticket from a motocycle cop kickin’ it under a shaded tree on the corner. I also like getting parking tickets for parking in a school zone.
My son just transferred to another school and let me tell you one good thing about McKinley… the homework.
Teachers from the same grade level meet every week. They all teach the same thing. All the kids get a homework packet and are due on Fridays. The pages of homework for each day is a review from what they did at school that day. The best part is that it’s work they should be able to do on their own with no help. (I swear the papers my son brings home from his new school, even I don’t get it!) Dude, I have a toddler and a baby to feed, diaper and chase down. It helps me out a lot when I don’t have to sit at a table and semi-​help him. Can’t give him the full attention.
Oh and the principal David aka Mr.Taylor. He’s cool. You can tell he cares about «his» kids. Also, he’s badass. Anyone that speaks fluent Spanish and is not Mexican… WHOA! Blew my mind the first time I heard.
