One trip to Modicas and I was hooked for life! Delicious Italian flavor in the heart of LB. Lunch time they draw a crowd but the max wait time was 15ish minutes and it was absolutely worth while. Any cold sandwich can be lettuce wrapped for folks trying to keep in light on lunch break. Never before have i seen pastrami paired with jalapeños and it was mouth watering! If you’re in the area you have to check it out!

Customer service knowledgeable and nice. Would return Prosciutto sandwich Prosciutto, tomato, lettuce, peppercino, vinegar and oil on French bread. I liked it. I liked the vinegar and oil too, never had that on a sandwich so it was fun. 4 of 5 stars would get again! Hoagie 3 types of meats, cheese, lettuce, tomato, on French bread. Hubbie liked it and ratedvir 4.1

Love this place. Employees are nice and helpful even during the rush hours. I live across the street so no problem with parking :). All in all it’s a great value. Portions are enough for two people, in my opinion.

Ordered the 8″ pastrami and shared it with my husband. So glad I did, the sandwich is huge! Very tasty indeed. We will be back!

My very favorite place in Long Beach it is like being in Mama’s home kitchen! Everybody knows your name, the food is absolutely delicious with generous portions and scrumptious desserts if you are ever in Long Beach make it a point to stop here. Meatloaf that rivals Mimmas and a Hot Pastrami to dream about. Tristen is off the charts with service and personality and you can tell that Orsa as the owner is amazing by the cheerful nature of the staff. See you there!

If you come here and order the large sandwich, you are going to get your dollars worth. My favorite is The Smoking Joe which consists of pastrami piled high, marinara sauce, provolone cheese, and jalapeño peppers. This sub is massive. It’s more than enough for two people but lucky for me, my girlfriend got full from just ½ of her half so I ate ¾ of the whole thing. I do not regret it for a second because the salty goodness of the meat and the acid from the mustard and jalapenos give it a great balance. The bread can get soggy because of the moist pastrami and sauce, so eat it quick.(which you will already do because it’s that delicious) The price is higher than your average Subway but that place is crap to begin with.

Excellent service, very nice and friendly staff especially cashier lady who took my order. I love their spaghetti specials and the outdoor seating. Small but quaint and clean little deli.

Love coming here on my lunch breaks. Their pasta dinners are huge AND come with a side salad and bread. The prosciutto sandwich is my favorite and all the workers are so sweet

Italian food I wish I knew how to quit you! So I’ve given modicas another chance. Actually, several chances. Tried their pesto cheese tortellini(twice), the chicken Parmesan, lasagna, hot salami sandwich, and the prosciutto sandwich. It’s obvious the delicious food keeps me coming back for more. I love eating outside on the corner of linden an ocean which offers a slight ocean view as well as people watching. My hands down favorite is the prosciutto sandwich. It’s very simple, but beautifully balanced. Salty prosciutto, creamy mozzarella, fresh tomato, zesty basil all on fresh bread is perfection. Their pesto tortellini is a close second. I LOVE that a dinner plate includes a fresh green salad tossed in balsamic vinaigrette sprinkled with fresh Parmesan. My greedy self can’t wait to work my way down the menu, including the desserts and wine!

Modica’s Deli makes some great sandwiches. My boyfriend and I stop here almost every time that we are in Long Beach. He really likes the«heart attack jack» sandwich because it has so much meat. I prefer the pastrami topped with marinara sauce. We never have had a bad sandwich here, the prices are very reasonable, and the workers are very nice and professional.

Update! They quit hounding me for my table. Also, they get a 6th star for their substitution policy! * * * * * *

Best sandwiches and soups in Downtown Long Beach. My favorite is the hot pastrami with peppers. The pastrami melts in your mouth. A close second to the hot pastrami is the heart attack jack, so much yummy meat. All of their soups are made in house and change daily. I make sure to always grab a bowl when their sausage and tomato soup is on the menu. They get busy at lunch, but it is well worth the wait!

I really liked this place! My husband said it’s a great place to try but wouldn’t go again. To be fair he was expecting more of a restaurant and didn’t know I chose a deli for dinner. The food was extremely plain. I liked it because the food was very plain and tasted like it was made at home and for less than $ 10 one person can fill up with with a pasta dish that comes with 2 big garlic bread pcs and a side salad. We took a piece of the Chocolate Suicide cake — now that was every girls dream when she craves chocolate wowie! The roasted potatoes were cold. Overall the food was good nothing spectacular but it’s your place if you want simple food.

I came here on a late Wednesday afternoon, parking wasn’t crazy and the business was fairly slow thus the line wasn’t busy and seats were easily available. Ambiance Parking: * In downtown Long Beach, it can get pretty packed so best of luck with the parking. However going late afternoon parking wasn’t competitive so we found good close street parking. Seating: * Seating was plentiful. You have the choice of outside seating or inside. We preferred outside because of the mild feel of city life. Feels: * Good for a casual meal or a taste of Long Beach. I feel like it’s an everyday restaurant that doesn’t stand out too much to avoid excessive hype. If you want some good eats while enjoying the LB life without the busy-ness, I would recommend checking out this place. Food: Salad Combo Plate(Recommend) For those that enjoy trying a little bit of everything, this would be my recommendation. I chose the mozzarella, asparagus, and pesto pasta and definitely it was a healthy affordable meal that filled me up. Not too salty and not too fulfilling to get me bloated. Customer Service: Our server was polite and knowledgable. Can’t complain. Overall: 4 stars. No signatures but my meal was affordable, delicious, and fulfilling. I wouldn’t exactly recommend this place for tourists but for those in need for a quick bite then Modica Del would be the place to be. TL;DR Tips: * Salad Combo Plate if you wanna try a little bit of almost everything.

Modica’s is an upscale deli which is frequented by the business type during the weekday lunch hour. It has won my heart because of all delis I’ve been to in recent memory, it is the only one that actually offers some of my favorite item on the menu. I tried the gyro and pepperoni and cheese sandwich and the«suicide» chocolate cake. Yes, the one that makes you want to commit suicide after you eat it Haha. The service is surprisingly quick and the staff are very pleasant. The salads are fresh and sweets are abundant. Overall a great lunch place and highly recommend for healthy options as well.

We came here on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. My friends just ran the Surf City half marathon and wanted to eat pasta and sandwiches. They’re Long Beach residents and raved about this place. Located on a sunny corner of Ocean Blvd I liked the big windows giving the restaurant a nice, cheerful and roomy atmosphere. I ordered the Turkey sandwich which to me was, meh. It was pretty plain with no umph. My boyfriend ordered the pepperoni mozzarella which was really yummy and tasted like a pizza in sandwich form. My friend ordered the Pastrami and his wife ordered the Spaghetti. I was able to taste their dishes all were pretty good as well. I guess I ordered the wrong thing off the menu that day. They had a decent selection of wine and beer. I’d go back and would have to definitely order some of their popular sandwiches or pasta. Service was friendly and pleasant but considering they weren’t busy, they forgot a couple things like the latte’s and coffee that we ordered. We had to walk up to the counter to ask for them. Overall a nice little lunch spot I would try again.

Pastrami’s are my go-to so gave them a try for lunch. Shared half a regular pastrami and the Smokin Joe. The Smoking Joe had a little too much marinara sauce but did appreciate the slices of jalapenos underneath. The regular pastrami was excellent other then it arriving at the table lukewarm(guess i like my pastrami hot). Nice corner deli and the folks were friendly. The half size(8″) is plenty but the whole size(16″) is a sure food coma. Regular spot for sheriff, police county officers so make sure you’re «clean» before walking in. Still on a quest for the absolute best pastrami…

Modica’s offers a lot to like. The deli sandwiches feature high quality meat and cheese. The soups look and smell good, at least to someone waiting for a sandwich order. The pasta looks great also, but I did not have a chance to try any. The service is friendly and efficient, with only a few minutes’ wait for each order. The place is not a generic sub shop with the pre-measured sections of(supposed) deli meat. But nothing tops the simple greatness that is the peanut butter and jelly sub. It has the basic ingredients on a roll, just as you would make at home. The sandwich has no artisan jelly or organic peanut butter, although they have their places sometimes. Just not here. But you can make that sandwich at home, you might say. Sure you can, but sometimes you want one when away from home, and this fits the bill. No pretense but just a nice slice of childhood food memories. Are the prices a little high? Yes, they are, but Long Beach is not cheap by any means. Parking can be a challenge too, but you will find a place if you keep looking. I ate there twice on a recent trip and would go back again. I hope others have a chance to give it a try,

OK Deli by the Courtyard Marriott. There are times in Long beach, between lunch and dinner, when the restaurants are closed. It’s a little different for everyone, but when that happens and you are forced to eat at this time, you might have to settle for something. That’s how I stumbled on modica’s. This place is kind of a fast food, deli type place. One of those where you order your food at the counter and take a number. Then grab your drink while they make it and bring it to you. I ordered the caprese salad and the Sausage sandwich with cheese. The Caprese salad was two pieces of tomato with 2 pices of buffalo mozzarella and 2 pieces of basil on top. A little balsamic vinegar sprinkled over the top. It was ok. If the ingredients are fresh, it’s hard to mess it up. The Italian sausage had a red tomato sauce on it and melted mozzarella cheese on top of that. All toasted until the cheese was melted. The red sauce was not good. And the sandwich was a huge bun with a little pieces of Italian sausage in there. The sausage was only ok. I was really wishing for peppers and onions. They had a couple pepperincini’s that accompanied it, but… its not the same. As I began with, it was the only place open. So I appreciate that. The dining room was just a room off to the side with a couple tables and some chairs. The food was only ok. But for what it is, and for the time we were having to eat, we made it work.
