Pee & Gee Fish

This was our little go to spot when we were too lazy to cook. Their deep fried shrimp is so delicious. We usually order the shrimp basket, it comes with the deep fried shrimp & fries, sauces on the side. Haven’t tried anything else here really, oh besides their hot wings, pretty good & their deep fried oysters was delicious also. Friendly customer service, great atmosphere & decent price.

Aaahhhh… inhale the aroma of fried fish.
It’s been a while (years) since I’ve been to this location, but my cousin and her husband drive from Pedro to eat here, so that speaks volumes that the taste is still the same… bomb!
While your here you can see the pictures and autographs on the walls of the celebrities that have eaten from here too. Which reminds me to ask… Is VIP Records still next door? LoL That was a cool place to browse through while waiting for your food.
Anywho, this is the only fish spot that I’ve ever ate at while living in the LBC. Next time I go back to Long Beach I’ll be getting a plate to go. So I see a check-​in coming up soon.**giggles**

I was looking for a really good fried fish spot so I tried this place. All I can say is the food is okay. I feel like the portions are way too small for the price you pay. One thing I really didn’t like what the French fries, they taste as if there cooked in the same grease as the fish and we’re not fresh. All together it’s an ok spot but I’ll look for another to call my home

I recently moved to Long Beach from Carson. I was hoping this would be as good as Family Fish Market. The staff was friendly. The hush puppies were PERFECT, but the rest of my meal was mediocre. The cornmeal batter lacked flavor, and the red snapper was a little chewy. My cole slaw had a kitchen cleanser smell to it. I took a small bite and decided not to eat the rest. Wish I could recommend this place. It’s just okay.

I absolutely love this place at first I was going to the Louisiana fish market in watts but their fish tasted so unauthentic so I knew I had to find me another fish market cause I Love me some fresh hot catfish so my boyfriend at the time took me to one in los angeles right under the harbor freeway and they were ok but could do better so then my sister who loves and spends most of her time in long beach told me about P&G and told me she loved it couldn’t get enough so me looking for some good catfish I had to check it out when I got there I ordered the dinner special catfish shrimp and a side of fries I got home and tore that fish up I was hooked it was exactly what I was looking for especially when I got pregnant it was all I longed for I would make the commute on the train from LA to long beach for their fish, now married my husband is military and we live in Hawaii and im nervous about trying their fish market cause I feel they won’t compare cause people always say the urban food here isn’t as good as it is on the mainland but we’ll see how it goes but I wish they had a p&g out here

Ordered fish tacos and spicy hot wings. Specifically asked for my tacos to have no onions and I got what I’ve asked for. The total came out to be $ 7.50, so it’s pretty cheap compared to other restaurants.
Service: 5/​5, the person who took my order had a clear voice and was able to manage with me.
Food: 5/​5, it was delicious. The wings were spicy as hell, but I’m pretty sure the cook added a little more extra spice than usual since I asked for burning hot. Tacos tasted very good, they have the sauce that Hole Mole has and that just made it perfect since I usually order fish tacos whenever I head to Hole Mole on Tuesdays.
The only problem you’d have whenever eating here are the rude customers that come once in awhile, and the people who constantly ask you for spare change when you’ve already told them no.

Yay, I ordered with no salt and that’s what I got. Yeah But, I ordered zucchini and got fries. It was too hot (weather/​hit flashes). for me reorder and darn did I hear them acknowledge mistake and offer to make some, «No!» Hushpuppies were done in the middle and they were crunchy and spicy. May go back before end of year :)

I love the shrimp at this place, it gets really busy around 230 because long beach poly high school students get out, so it can be packed, but other then that I haven’t had any problems

This place have some great tasting red snapper. The staff was friendly. The inside was full of pictures of maybe local celebrities. The only complaint I have and this made my decision on giving a 4 star was the hot sauce. I am black so I have to have lots of hot sauce on my fish well they only give you a little thing of hot sauce but alot of tater sauce. They didn’t even sell thw bottle hot sauce. But other than that the fish was great !!!

Got my lady hooked on Pee and Gee fish so much, last Friday I had eaten half my fish and she wanted to taste it and gave her some. I intended to eat the rest the next day. When I went to eat it, IT WAS GONE MAN! She finished it in the middle of the night and did not realize it! LOL Got to love it!

What drew me to this place is the mural on the side of the building. It’s very hard to avoid that type of marketing. It’s part of a historical corner of Long Beach for music fans sitting near and sharing a parking lot with the now defunct VIP records. (sign is still there) I’m quite happy I stopped.
They have a good selection of fish to chose from. I always go with what should be locally available and sourced. They have the fish displayed which I like, as you can make your choice based on what looks fresh. I went with Sanddab.
Order was processed quickly by the friendly staff and was ready to go in about 10 minutes. It come with your choice of sides. I got mac salad and coleslaw. Both were excellent… and mac salad was «Explosion» as my misguided hipster Japanese friend would say. The fish was perfectly fried and cooked. You can easily tell that it’s not that pre-​frozen bullshit a lot of other places sell and claim is fresh. The fish curls up a little, and is deliciously misshapen.

Just went there today with sis and my dawtah and the food eat nice! I had a shrimp plate with mac salad & coleslaw and washed it down with Ginger Ale my fav guilt free soda. The wait wasnt long at all. I was tripping off these mrxican and asian kids talking bout «nigga» this and that. So I was talking my shit out loud cuz they around all these older black folk acting like that. I walked out before I said some real shit to ‘em. Everybody wanna be a nigga but nobody wanna be a nigga (Paul Mooney voice) lol anyways besides that fuckery the food is bomb. I will definitely call in my order next time and come get it. I throw up 5 stars for them.

So this place is in Long Beach, like ghetto long beach. BUT!!! It totally reminds me of the fish fry places in Brooklyn which is the best I’ve ever had.
UNFORTUNATELY IT’S NOT GOOD. Don’t bother.
The décor is nice and there’s pictures of a bunch of people on the wall. It’s pretty cool. We did see a pot deal go down behind us. Lol. But whatever! We’re here for the food!!!
I got the whitefish dinner, fries, Mac salad, a side of hush puppies and a sprite. $ 12.37.

Like Miss Sanders says, «Where do I begin? I have been going to Pee & Gee Fish since 1992. With each of my visits I have never had a problem with the fish or the staff. Years back I knew the grandson of the biz, and when I leave out of the state of California where I am from when I get back to ‘Strong Beach» aka Long Beach, I always go to Pee & Gee to get my fish when I don’t make it myself. Sometimes I just crave it and I will get myself up on Long Beach transit and go get my Pee & Gee Fish.
I heard it was sold when I came back into town this last time and some Long Beach resident people and other restaurant owners were telling me that they didn’t like it anymore. Coming from the business owners I didn’t take much stock in it because I thought they were hatin on Pee & Gee. These small business owners know I don’t just eat anywhere, they know this because I tell them. I am very funny about where I go out to eat. For me Pee & Gee Fish didn’t fall off, but they did last night. They fell off more behind the way they handled the situation than the fish they gave me being terrible.
As a long time customer of Pee & Gee Fish, I had to at least let them know they dropped the ball. After last night I would have returned to Pee & Gee Fish because as good as I cook, I could fall off with even one of my signature meals. But it was the attitude of staff when I called and the manager hanging up on me on my first call to them. In my option, they thought I just might want my money back, which I really didn’t. It didn’t even come to my mind to get my money back. They were not listening because all I said was, «where I always have enjoyed my fish here, this time, it was terrible». I now I guess I should have used a better word, but hey, I was hungry and very tire. In their mind, they were not going to give a refund, in my mind; one of my favorite places to eat let me down. Pee & Gee is a neighborhood joint and we in the neighborhood expect more when we take the time to hop on a bus, have not eaten all day except a quick cheese pizza from ⁷⁄₁₁ on Pine, which was way better than this fish I got from Pee & Gee. Will I ever eat there again, I don’t know, will I ever go there again, well, no because of the attitude after the fact; they did not treat their customer accordingly. That 12 bucks I spent for 2 «maybe» Tilapia fish sandwiches is worth me knowing don’t go that extra mile if business owners are not going to back their product because I’m 52 years old and where I come from, the customer is always right.
And I think not until they become humble. They were so busy trying to protect their dollar, they lost a long time customer.
UPDATE:
A few weeks later, Lisa and I went to Pee & Gee Fish and for some reason she doesn’t trust me when I go to speak with owners of businesses after a disagreement with the establishment. Well, I did let her take point on this one because for me, it like a lifelong relationship after you have been hurt. I didn’t want to talk to my distant lover who had betrayed me with some quick out the door tilapia.
Lisa spoke with the owner and he did remember the incident. He remembered us as being faithful customers as well. The problem here is, The Owner was ready to get out the door. He had a long hard bad day and I can understand bad days. He never out and out apologize and he didn’t have to. I really didn’t expect on either. I didn’t want my money back. I just wanted my favorite fish place to know I felt betrayed when it came to one of my food joints. I take time to spot these places out. I’m picky and Lisa Michelle and I cook very well so when we do go out, it has to meet the bar.
We didn’t purchase anything that day and have yet to. Not because of what happened but because we haven’t been in direction. I won’t press my way out the to get anywhere again like that. It just makes it harder when it doesn’t go as you anticipated.

Place has pretty good food. It’s a pretty «local» place so if you go after dark order your food and wait in the car.

When I’m craving some good quality cheap seafood, this is the spot to hit! They have everything from oysters, tilapia, scallop, greens, fried chicken, macaroni salad, onion ring, and much more!
I always order the 5-​piece combo dinner for two. You get to choose your fish (tilapia, catfish, etc), 2 side orders, and 2 choices of seafood goodies (oyster, shrimp, or scallop)
They’re portions are good and I always have a lot leftover. They make sure you’re full and happy and the prices are fair.
The only downside is that the food takes long to come out, but that’s how it is since its made to order. and you cant rush with seafood. yummm

As an African, from the north west side of the continent where lake chad, and the niger river flows. What they call fish n chips, is a common part of our diet. So therefore I went this place. Although it is kind of an area, which is not the best, I was not going to let this keep me from this place. The place is a very simple. I was surprised to not only see different varietys of fish, but also to find all kinds of desserts, and side dishes which where pleasant to so this is something I liked. The owners where very friendly, and in good spirit. I ordered, some red snapper, and catfish, and fries. Although it is deep fried it was still very very very good, the smell itself was so great, that it spreaded throughout my place. I have been back here a few times, and I have tried the different fish there, also the shrimp is quite good as well. This place is very good for the simple finger foods needed. This place is also great for catering and will leave all that are catered too contented unless they are allergic to seafood. Therefore I recommend it to people.

The food is okay but isnt as good as it use to be…

This is a good place to eat. I go there every month or so. Be aware, you must like fish to enter this establishment! It smells like fish when you walk in (duh!!) because the have fresh fish counter. You pick the fish that you want and they fry it up for you. Of course, the food tastes really fresh. The owners are really nice and they give really big portions.
I definitely recommend it to anyone who loves good tasting fresh fish.

Saw this eatery while driving down the street and decided to stop in. The owners were very friendly and the food was fantastic. I had the catfish filet dinner and it was great. I’ve since been back and have had no problems with either the service or with it being cooked as ordered.
I definitely recommend anyone who loves good soulfood to give it a try.
