Power of One Karate

Power of One Karate has awesome instructors especially for kids. Our 6 year old started here last year when he was 5 and Mr. S and Mr. Flores are great at getting him to reach for new goals here. We have seen a marked improvement in our son’s focus, discipline, self-​confidence and maturity as he has progressed through the ranks. This has flowed over to his behavior in school and at home as well. We also had his birthday party here and he LOVED it! We had 25 kids and they were kept entertained and moving for almost 2 hours. Great place and would highly recommend.

Our family loves Power of One Studio. Our 5 year son has been regularly attending for over a year. He always looks forward to going, and the instructors Mr. S and Mr. Flores go above and beyond to remember each child’s name and give them patience and care. Our son respects the instructors, their expectations of him, the rules and routine, and strives to do his best, but most importantly learns invaluable skills like confidence, patience, respect, and perseverance.

If you are looking for a karate studio for your ¾ year old (not easy to find for this age group) Power of One on PCH in Long Beach is amazing. I researched all the local studios trying to decide which one to start our son at and I couldn’t be more pleased that we ended up here. I was looking to help build my then 3 year olds confidence, help him focus, to be respectful of others, and learn self defense. Mr. Flores and Mr. S are wonderful instructors. They are kind and patient with the kids yet they expect them to listen, pay attention to instructions and be respectful. In addition to of course challenging them physically they also take time every class to discuss and teach values and life lessons. At any time you need to miss a class due to illness, etc they encourage you to make it up at no additional cost Mr. Flores always shows a genuine interest with each family and really makes you feel welcome. My son loves coming to class every week and is telling everyone he is going to have his next birthday party at Power of One. I highly highly recommend this studio for young children.

My 8-​year-​old son has been going to Power of One for 3 years now. We started karate because we wanted our son to build confidence and strength. He is very small for his age, one of the smallest in his class. We wanted to make sure he could defend himself and others as he got older. He has developed a strong sense of self and body awareness. The instructors are amazing! They really take the time to be sensitive and also stern. They have earned very deep respect from my son. He loves going to class, even though sometimes he feels really tired from school. He is always being challenged to grow and really taken on a sense of leadership in class as well as in other areas of his life. All the lessons he learns here affect his whole life. Our family has been battling cancer and with his dad being sick, I’ve noticed periods where my son gets really angry at life. Although we talk about it often, it’s also amazing that he can put his anger into a positive direction when he’s doing karate. He always comes out of class feeling uplifted and happy. I couldn’t ask for anything more.

Power of one! every single day going in this place its worth it! Both Instructors are awesome my kids and my self love this place teaching not only karate technique also for being one of the student who learned to give Respect , Good attitude, Presence of mind focus on what your doing to have knowledge and power of power of one. ossss!

I can’t begin to say enough about Power of One Karate! My 8 years old daughter has been a student for nearly two years, with no end in sight! Mr. Salazar and Mr. Flores are a shining example of what an instructor should be and the traits they should possess. They are patient, kind, encouraging and always supportive. They work to develop and foster the growth of each child while teaching confidence and self discipline! The classes are dynamic and always evolving. My daughter looks forward to classes. I recommend Power of One to anyone and everyone considering martial arts classes! They truly are the best!

I am a single mother of a seven year old girl. My daughter started at Power of One on Long Beach Blvd when she was three and half years old. She is now a purple belt at the PCH studio. She has a solid sense of who she is. She is confident and caring. She is also disciplined. Martial arts is part of her routine and I couldn’t be more proud of the young girl she has become. It takes a village to raise a child and I trusted Colin, Tara, Eric, Jose, Bea, and John over the years and it was the best decision I could have made!

My 6 year old son has been going here for almost a year, and he has loved every minute of it, and so have I! It has been so comforting having my son in such a kind and patient yet clearly guiding enviroment.
The teachers are all exceptional, providing a perfect balance of fun with serious training and life lessons (confidence, leadership, honesty etc).
It was a little overwhelming trying to choose a studio for my son to begin karate at, I feel so lucky this is where we came… and are planning to stay for a long time!
My son also did the summer camp that they offer, and it was again, a wonderful experience.
I cannot recommend this gem enough…

We are now going on three years and I think it is fair to say this is a great school with talented and caring instructors. The belt program is more for real than in other schools so when your child gets an orange belt they know a bit more and can do more than some with the same belt in other schools. The owners are very much involved in the every day operation. It is a real hands on operation. I don’t know about the cost comparison with other schools but when we looked they were competitive. In a world where you never seem to get what you pay for, PO-​1 is a nice find, I think they try to give you a bit more than you pay for as a policy.

We love this place! All three of my kids take karate lessons here, but they get so much more out of it than just the physical aspects of karate. The instructors are genius at keeping the attention of a room full of little kids for an hour. Plus, they focus on important values and life lessons, and they put these into action. For example, I dropped my 6 yr old son off for camp and he wasn’t taking responsibility for putting his lunchbox away. 10 minutes later, I got a phone call from my son, thanking me for making him a lunch.

Our 4 ½ year old grandson has been taking classes at P of 1 on PCH for almost a year now. Among many other things, I really like how the instructors (especially «Mr. S») are on the same page as I am. They are problem-​solvers as well as athletes. They are perfect examples of martial arts as an integrated mind/​body discipline.
These patient NICE instructors know each child: not only their names, but their individual strengths and «weaknesses.». They continually brainstorm ways in which to better teach confidence, focus, impulse-​control, and self-​discipline to each child in the class. Your kid, in the meantime, will have a blast learning new physical skills, appropriate actions and behaviors, personal concepts and values, and of course «ninja moves.»
A highly recommended martial arts studio — Power of One is as important to us as preschool and toothpaste.

How should I start this… This place is amazing!!! The staff there at power of one really know their stuff. Like most people, I’m just a regular average person trying to get fit on a budget. I mean, of course its to google everything and set up your own type of diet but, to actually have a trainer that is with you along the way makes the training a lot easier and stress free. For anyone trying to start or just have any questions I would definitely recommend Power of One, just because of the 6 week program they offer from the start. I just recently finished my program and now I’m ready to take on the next course. Plain and simple, if you’re someone like me who’s trying to get fit or try to obtain a healthy life style, TRY IT OUT JUST ONCE! =] Trust me, once you try one of their many fitness programs that they offer, you will come out with a new positive mindset in your life.

I really like how much they work on focus and respect with my 5 ½ year old son, in addition to getting a good workout and improving his coordination all while having a lot of fun. The classes are paced well, and the instructors do a great job with a wide variety of kids. I appreciate a schedule that allows us to choose which days we can come to class, and I’m glad the classes aren’t crowded. I haven’t attended them, but I know Power of One has anti-​bullying workshops at their locations as well as some schools in Long Beach. Although the classes are on the pricey side, I highly recommend this studio.

ok, my son is 3.5 years old… so if you know anything about boys that age… then can be wild. great instructors, very patient. The instructor took the time to call me after we missed a few classes due to illness. to make sure
1. we were happy with the classes
2. to let us know we could make up the missed classes.
they could have told us «too bad so sad» but they didn’t, they actually wanted us to get our monies worth and for my son to enjoy learning karate Top notch!
