I hate to give a bad review, but i think they deserve it. I own a small rental unit that needed new flooring… i wanted either carpet or tile, and I had R+G come out to do a tile estimate. i had my go-​to flooring guy come out to give me a quote on a Saturday and then i had R+G come out on the following tuesday. A charming old guy came out to do measurements, he said he would email a quote… the weekend goes by, Nothing, no quote. i need to get my rental unit in shape, and start showing it… a week later i call and say… hey are you gonna give me a quote? They said i need to go to the Family Carpet showroom… I said, HUH? but whatever, the next saturday i go to their place, look at tile… picked one i liked, confirmed i was «in the computer»…then I wait… and wait… and no more waiting. I call my go to carpet guy, pissed i had wasted so much time getting my unit back on the market. i am still waiting for my quote from R+ G. How do you stay in Business like this/?

I initially had a great experience with R&G when they came out to measure for an estimate. But upon installation (organized through Lowe’s), things went downhill. Ended up having to re-​schedule several times due to sick employees and my own hectic work schedule. The crew got the work done quickly, but even after I thought I inspected everything, found a lot of issues. They did not test some of the doors and I was unable to close a main bathroom door due to the height of the carpet. They don’t shave doors, so I was out of luck and left to figure out that problem on my own. Had to vacuum the carpet several times to get all of the leftover pieces up and definitely found a few staples. When furniture was replaced on floor, placed incorrectly and I was unable to move being 8 months pregnant. Recently, moved a couch in a large living room to vacuum and discovered a huge area where there is no padding! Also, every time I walk across my carpet (which I love), I can hear plastic – did they leave a layer of plastic on the pad unnecessarily? I would love to have them out to fix the issues, but now that I have a newborn and their difficult scheduling, I’m not sure of what to do!

Describing this business as irresponsible and unprofessional would be a compliment. We scheduled carpet installation at a rental unit 6 days prior to agreed upon installation date, and called to confirm an 8 am installation, two days beforehand. On the installation date, the company was a no show. We called their corporate office and were instructed to call Jay, the business owner, as he had been made aware of the situation. We were also told that we were the only people scheduled for carpet installation in the morning, and that we should be expecting the installer any time.
We called Jay five or six times, and left numerous voicemail indicating that we depended on their promise to install the carpet that day as a new tenant would be moving in the next day, but have yet to receive the courtesy of ANY return phone call. Hoping that the company would follow through with the promised installation, we waited the whole day only to be disappointed with a no show.
The tenant now refuses to move into the property because the carpet has not been replaced as scheduled.
Bottom line, Jay and R&G Carpet are unreliable and unresponsive. Even if you are promised an installation date and time, you should not expect them to follow through. Even if you call them the day of installation and they say they are coming to install, do not expect that they will come. I have never had the misfortune of dealing with a more dishonest and unethical business.

In I could give zero stars I would. Where do I start? First off they installed the flooring going the wrong way. We told them north/​south which was perpendicular to the joist, parallel to the windows and consistent with the way the hallway and the kitchen would run. They told us the floor was not level and the would HAVE to install the other way. After day one we insisted it be corrected. The «leveling» they could not do before, was done in 30 min. They just didn’t want to waste the time. The cuts were all wrong, the floors were not leveled at all and to top the cake — they NEVER INSTALLED UNDERLAY. They put in the entire floor without underlay. They also left all of our furniture, including tv remotes and Persian rugs outside, and refused to move any furniture back when asked. They left all the debris from the job, including their lunch trash, all over our house. We now have to pay to have the job completely redone and are likely going to end up in a lawsuit. If you want a terrible job — this is your company.

After reading the reviews on Unilocal,I went straight there!
Well actually I took a short cut and stop by the local carpet guy on Redondo.
What a mistake! He was trying to sell my anything, horrible product and color.
In fact he said he was an artist and his eyes were better than mine. — Really? wow!
After that… I high tailled it to R & G’s Carpet Service like I should have done in the first place!
Right from the moment I walked through the door these guys were fantastic!
I was looking carpet literally for the same week service. Crazy, I know but it was NO Problem, R & G’s made it happen! :)
Brent was very professional, patient and helpful! We went through many books and samples looking for what I wanted and that would work best for my needs. He searched through out of state and local suppliers until we found what I wanted rather than settling. None of the hoop-​lah stuff just to sell me!
Brent was able to get a delivery day for two days later and the guys (Alex & Walter) that came out were professional, efficient and very experienced. The were on time and kept things very clean not to mention they did s great job!
I am very happy with my experience with R & G’s Carpet Services and would HIGHLY recommend them for any flooring needs.

After nightmare experience with a major-​always-​advertising national chain we went to R & G and met with Brent. Right off the bat I knew we were in the right place with the right company. He understood our issues, indicated they would not be issues with his company. Took measurements from other company to give us a quote in minutes. His dad came out the next morning, a Saturday, and measured and revised the quote. On Tuesday the installers came in, very clean and efficient, and moved furniture and installed the pad and carpet.
Price was about 20% more than the other national company but worth every penny for the service and quality of product. Your carpet will be around for a long time, not a place to bargain hunt.
Glad to have supported a local small business and very glad to have had the superior service and quality carpet installed in our home. If you want great service, local family owned company for follow up and very high quality product call R & G for 5-​star service and product.

My issue described below was resolved by Lowe’s, but it took 5 phone calls.

Jay and his crew were quick and efficient. Made an appointment for Jay to come to our new condo to measure for a quote. He showed me some specific samples (based on the fact that I had told him via email I was looking for berber type carpet). I pointed at a sample I liked. He explained that it was made out of recycled materials and would last 5 – 7 years (fine by me). He also told me he could try to show me some more expensive samples, but he knew I was trying to stay within a certain budget and that the carpet I chose would serve my purpose just fine. I really appreciated that. He got me a quote via email a few days later with a fantastic price and I didn’t even bother calling anyone else (I’d already gotten one quote from Emp! re – total joke… seriously, I laughed out loud when the guy told me the price). When it was time to install, his team showed up on time, did a great job, and were done in just around 4 – 5 hours (large loft room with some tricky areas and 2 bedrooms – including inside closets).
All around a great experience. Recommend this company.

I hired them to remove old carpet, carpet pad, tack strips & staples. They did a great job for a great price. I had a piano in the corner of one of the rooms & told them to just cut around it & I would remove that section later when I had some help to move the piano. They moved the piano very carefully & put it back for no extra charge. I did find & have to pull out some staples when I was cleaning the floors after they left but that was more than made up for by their overall service & price.

I had been shopping local (Long Beach) businesses for new carpet /​linoleum in our apartment. After several quotes and dealings with sub-​par businesses, it dawned on me to research «that place over by Cherry/​Alamitos».
I called, scheduled an appointment with Jay (owner). Jay was «on-​time», professional and had his office email (yes, email vs handwritten scribble fax) several options (quotes) to me within 2 hours! He even suggested a new flooring system that I had never heard of – vinyl plank look-​like wood. Awesome product!
They offered to drop off samples, but we wanted to see the showroom in person, so we went by and were greeted by courteous staff, presented with a sample book to take home, and were even able to see the product we were considering because it was installed in their showroom floor.
After viewing the product, we scheduled installation for 2 days later.
Over the years, I have dealt with so many bad installers who only wanted to get the job done and didn’t care about scuffing walls, furniture, etc. The install crew — led by Caesar — were on-​time, polite, careful and quick.
Jay even showed up to check to see how the installation was going.

R & G carpeted my office last year and this year we bought a house so we thought we would try them. I’m glad we did. Turns out, the owner of the company lives in the same neighborhood as us. Small world. They carpeted my entire house and layed laminate floors in my entry and dinning room. They are beautiful. Looks like real slate. The crew worked extra hours just before the holiday season and finished up in one day. I was amazed. They’ve been in Long Beach since the 40’s and have a great reputation in the carpet/​flooring industry here. Very easy going and nice to work with. Five stars!

We had gotten a quote from Home Depot for some nice carpet, but wanted to shop around a bit, and stumbled upon R&G on Unilocal.Since they were local, and the reviews on here were good, we decided to contact them.
Jay was extremely helpful, professional, and knowledgeable, and we found the exact same carpet we had liked, at R&G (they have a big selection to choose from, all the major brands). Then Jay gave us his quote, and he beat Home Depot’s quote by a couple hundred dollars, without even knowing what Home Depot gave us. Very impressive.
We felt very confident going with R&G for the carpet in our new house, so last friday we had them install new carpet in one of our bedrooms.
The guys who showed up were polite and professional, and quick! They did an awesome job on the installation. Nice and clean and smooth. They even did a great job figuring out how to install it in our closet with the crawlspace opening in the floor so that it works and still looks nice.
The carpet made a HUGE difference in the room, and really made it feel complete and cozy, and like home.
We’re VERY happy with R&G, and plan on using them when we do our Family room very soon.

My wife and I bought a new house in Lakewood and looked for a company to refinish our hardwood floors and replace some carpet. We called Empire Today since we saw their ads all over TV because they had to be good, right? Wrong. The representative from Empire was rude and tried to explain to me that they were legit. The quoted price he gave me was ridiculously high so I told him to leave.
I walked into R&G’s office and spoke with Jay, who immediately gave us several options and was very helpful. We scheduled an appointment with Jay to come to our house to measure the next day. He made his measurements and sure enough, we discovered that the salesman from Empire inflated the square footage by 146 feet! Consequently, Jay was able to give us a price that was roughly half of what Empire quoted.
As soon as we gave the okay, a crew was in working on our floors the next morning. The crew was polite and answered any questions I had. They were able to get the floors to match exactly with the existing hardwood and the carpet is nice.
All in all, I highly recommend R&G. Each and every employee of the company was kind, courteous, and knowledgeable, and the prices were reasonable.

Go directly to R&G, they sell and install carpet, hardwood/​laminate AND do refinishing of existing hardwood floors. I was very happy and thought it was an excellent value for the quality work they did. Jay was really straightforward with pricing, quick to schedule, and installation was as promised. Small local shop (which I like) with a big showroom of all the samples you need to see, knows their product, but without the high overhead location, which accounts for the savings. I went based on the one review I saw here, and will definitely use them again the next time I need flooring, whether high end or budget. I would give them 4 ½ stars if I could!

R&G was contracted through Lowes to install my wood floors. They were prompt, clean, pleasant and professional. Enrique was the head of a crew of 3 guys and they were great.
I’d definitely recommend using them or requesting them if you’re buying flooring from Lowes in the area.
