The pan dulce is really good, but the bolillo is the best I’ve had yet. The bolillo is a little smaller in size than others I have encountered, but it is super soft and has a mild salt taste to the top that makes the difference. They don’t keep the bolillo out front, so ask the workers for some, you won’t be disappointed. I love this place.

I saw several gnats in the bread display case :( What a BIG let down:( I decided not to walk out because we used to get conchitas«shells» from this panaderia. However, it must be noted that a lady my mother knows used to give us the conchitas. Goes to show you should always get your food from a place you actually go to so you can actually see what environment the food is in. The conchitas here are/were(?) seriously good — but that’s where it stops. I got an empanada de pinya«pineapple turnover» which was ok but the bread was not soft and was poorly baked. This time around the conchita bread was good and soft but there was hard«stuff» in it :(The other items I chose were OK. Nothing really stood out. This place is kind of weird. The bread display cases are not in the best shape. The guy at the register this day was not very friendly. Maybe he saw me staring at the gnats as they were staring back at me. AWKWARD… This place is located in a large strip mall by the 91 Fwy. Plenty of parking is available. They take cards but charge $ 0.40…

OMG the BEST conchitas EVER! I grew up in East LA and have never thought conchitas were particularly tasty. They were usually dry and crumbly and only good when dunked in coffee or hot chocolate. WELL, you will never catch me dunking these amazing conchitas(although they do taste nice with a little coffee). They don’t usually have these tasty treats out in the glass cases with the rest of their pan dulce, so you will need to ask for them. We also saw someone getting fresh bolilos from the«back room» so I am sure they are delicious too. Besides the pan dulce, the cakes are moist and not overly sweet. The frostings are light and the fillings are not syrup based. They usually have sample slices available, which is much safer to the waistline than taking home a whole cake of temptation. This review would not be complete unless I mentioned the gelatinas. They are edible artwork that get people talking and conjecturing about how it could have been made. They are now making tamales on Fridays and Saturdays and my husband is addicted. Get there early because they are selling out along with the conchitas. The only reason I did not give this place a 5-star rating is because it looks a bit worn and could certainly use some updating.

I love pan dulce… live in the hood and you can find it in the local market, but there’s nothing like walking into a real panaderia, grabbin’ a tray and a pair of tongs and selecting your favorite sugar coated treats… Reyes Bakery makes cakes for quinceañeras, weddings and has tamales seasonally. Me, I go for their mantecado… a soft, buttery, sugar-coated pan dulce… with a coffee or even Coke, damn every bite is magic. It’s not much different from other panaderias, but I can speak from experience, everything is fresh and their staff is extremely friendly, in Engish or Spanish.
