They know Thai cooking and know how to present a nice atmosphere. Some people just can’t get enough. All they do is complaint complaint & dam complaint. What the hell you are expecting? These Thai foods are so dam cheap comparing to many other exotic cuisine out there. The food portion is well balanced and decent. They simply offering a five stars atmosphere with no extra cost. Each dish is so dam cheap comparing to the same atmosphere places that charge $ 15 for a plain lettuce salad. If you are not happy go eat those place that serve $ 15 for a plain lettuce salad or Taco Bell & shut up. Or simply serve yourself at home to be completely satisfied with service. Annoying b*&#@

My rating is mainly on the service. Plus, I’ve had better Thai food in several other places in Long Beach. I had a coupon, which they did NOT honor. Apparently, they didn’t honor anyone’s. The only way you would have known is if you went to the bathroom where there’s a little sign on the door saying they didn’t take it anymore. They should have posted it outside so you can see before you come in. So we ask them if they can let it pass since we didn’t see any sign at first, but they said no. The thing is, I bought the certificate that MORNING. They were still selling it on the site! If they weren’t accepting them anymore, why would they still have it up on the website? I think it’s a bait and switch technique they’re pulling. I saw on Groupon today they had another ad. Just a warning if you’re thinking of buying the Groupon: they may not honor that as well.

Open late! Good parking, nice interior, small portions but, hard to mess up Thai food, these guys do it well, friendly staff(non fluent in English) I left my cellphone there and they kept it, called my friend and held it until i came to retrieve it! so honest, thank you!

Great food, love the larb beef, summer rolls, pad siew and panang. Always fresh and vibrant tasting. Unfortunately they have had no delivery since mid December of 2010, so I’ve got to deduct a star. It’s too bad because the neighborhood it’s in is pretty rough and not somewhere I would feel safe taking my family to at night. Hope they hire a driver soon!

Went here tonight(1 Jan 11) and pulled up and the place looked closed. The place was empty, but the open sign was on so we went on in. I’m glad we did because even though it was empty, that didn’t stop the staff from eagerly helping us and giving us excellent service from the moment we walked in. We were promptly seated, and brought our drinks. The menu was different than most thai places… it had about 30 dishes between appetizers, entrées, and deserts. I ordered the soft shell crab dish and my wife had the red curry with beef. Both were AMAZING! The crab was cooked perfectly, and tasted outstanding. Sweet, savory, the onion and eggs and sauce were perfect as well. Also they served brown rice with our meal… normally I am not a fan of brown rice, but even that was cooked excellent. The red curry was great too. Had the medium spicy, which was about the same as taco bell fire sauce would be(not sure what other unit of spice measurement to use here). Anyway, I think next time I would get a step up because I like spice. For desert, we had the mango sticky rice. The rice was flavorful, with coconut and mango in there. And it was a perfect way to finish the meal. As far as portions go, they were quite large. We got to go boxes for everything including desert. Oh, I forgot to mention that the drinks we ordered were the thai iced tea and jasmine hot tea. I didn’t care for the jasmine tea, but the iced tea was also great. I am guessing that the place was empty because it was a holiday, as most places where empty around town. But even it it is empty when you go, don’t let that stop you from having a great meal. After all said and done, we were out of there for about $ 32 before tip.

Because we are creatures of habit, the Husband and I have been frequenting Bai Plu for Thai food ever since we moved to Long Beach 3 years ago. On a whim on Friday, we decided to change it up a bit so we did a Unilocal search for the highest rated Thai places in the LBC. We were actually heading to Phnom Penh Noodle Restaurant(which is actually a Cambodian place but showed up during my Thai food Unilocal search… go figure) but they were closed… on a Friday evening. Weird! So we turned the corner knowing that there would be another Thai restaurant somewhere down PCH. And that is how we stumbled on Sri Maya Thai. Sri Maya is located on the corner of Cherry and PCH next to a liquor store. The restaurant itself is small, clean, and a little trendy in décor. We ordered 3 dishes: the papaya salad with grilled shrimps, pad see ew with tofu, and fried rice with blue crab. The food took awhile to come out even though the place was not crowded at all. Our papaya salad was so good, though. The tangy dressing was perfect. My only complaint was that the salad only came with 2(TWO!!) shrimps! The pad see ew noodles were also tasty as was the fried rice. We ate up everything! Even though each dish came on a HUGE dish(in keeping with the trendy décor), the portions were on the average to small side. FINALVERDICT: We will be back, Sri Maya!

Diamond in the rough!(No seriously– I live walking distance from this place and I’ll be damned if I ever walk down here.) Located on PCH and Cherry, I drive by the restaurant almost everyday. Sometimes I wonder how they stay in business because there’s hardly anyone inside. I decided to give it a try and whoa, NOTBAD! Not bad at all! For starters, we had the Shrimp in the Blanket with sweet and sour sauce, Pad Thai and Massamun(Southern Style curry with potatoes peanuts and Beef). I’m not a fan of Pad Thai and prefer Pad Siew ew but this Pad Thai was, dare I say it, BETTER than Panvimarn’s! The Massamun I wouldn’t order again actually– it wasn’t bad but not my favorite either. So why the 4 stars? Because their menu is pretty extensive with good-sized portions, and you can choose from a wide array of items. AND… if you’re vegetarian they can make practically anything without meat for you. Score! The server is pretty attentive as well, and even though they’re not that busy, they don’t watch you eat either(unlike other places). I’m also a big fan of dinnerware(don’t ask), and their dishes are soOo exquisite! Their platters are gorgeous-something you would find in a 5-star restaurant. The best part? Their THAIICEDTEA is the LARGESTTHAIICEDTEA I’ve ever encountered. It comes in a HUGE tall glass, and all for about less than $ 3. Talk about bang for your buck-good Lord, I got my fill. To sum it up: Come here if you want good Thai food(I think they deliver as well) and want to get your money’s worth. Just ignore all the hoodlums and homeless men walking around PCH. And run to your car after if you have left overs… cause I’m sure they want a taste of that Thai goodness, too.

After reading the great reviews on Unilocal,I decided to try this thai joint for a workday lunch. Well, we were the only customers there at lunch, and I started to think this was a mistake. To my surprise, food was great! We ate family style and got a few dishes that the server recommended. Good choices! Excellent beef salad! Good service. Limited parking. Great entertainment if you look out the window and watch the PCH activities. Definitely will eat here again.

Wow what a weird place for this restaurant to be in! The shopping center is SUPER sketch, but once you walk inside you’re surrounded by beautiful décor, just like their location on 2nd street. When I saw a menu outside written in spanish I thought for a second we had somehow ended up at a mexican restaurant instead– slightly confused me! I thought it was entertaining to see a Thai menu in Spanish. I didn’t actually get any food myself because I had already eaten, but my ex came to visit and got himself some noodles off of the lunch special(can’t remember which), and I got myself a thai iced tea. As compared to Thai Gourmet on 2nd, the prices here are a little bit better! My Thai iced tea was a little bigger, they had different options on the lunch special, and their entrees were around 2 bucks cheaper. Not sure the food was quite as good though, and didn’t pack the same kick– they didn’t even ask him how spicy he wanted it. Maybe because we’re white? That happens to us a lot LOL. You have an option of getting soup with the lunch special also instead of just a spring roll, which was cool– but his tom yum tasted a little off. The service also wasn’t as good. After my friend got his food, he didn’t have any silverware. We waited for about 10 minutes for the waitress to come back or to get her attention because she was chatting it up with another table… so he couldn’t even eat his food! I still liked it, but the one I had at Thai Gourmet was way better. This one’s closer to me though, so I will definitely be going back!

A little taste of heaven is how I would like to describe this amazing Thai food restaurant Ok so the area isn’t the«Best» and it’s located on PCH and Cherry .yes I get this but once I stepped in I blocked all it’s surroundings just by the smell of it haha Started off with some great service by our waiter… his English wasn’t the best but who’s is? Started off with some iced tea and egg rolls and those were really good… and yes I know you can’t really screw up egg rolls but trust me it can happen ;) Our Entrees were the Pad Gaprao(Sauteed shrimp in garlic sauce with spices) be VERY aware when they ask you if you want this spicy my friend decided she wanted spicy and she seemed to have a difficult time because it was so hot, it didn’t leave out the fact that it was really good and the shrimp was very fresh I ordered the Crying Tiger(rib-eye)…OMG this is by far one of the best I’ve had in a while… it was so tender and cooked to perfection… i decided on a Mild spice and that was also pretty hot but not as bad as my friends! The portions are just right… you probably won’t have a bunch of left overs but I rather that in exchange for a delicious meal as opposed to a bunch of crappy left overs that I probably will end up tossing anyway Our waiter was so nice he even offered my friend to exchange her plate for a less spicy dish. but she said it was I think he felt so bad that he gave us a complimentary dessert… Sticky rice with something on top I don’t know the name of this one but it was good Overall Great place, don’t let the area steer you away it’s a MUST you try this spot =)

This place is really a hidden gem. I found this off of Unilocal and this is where we took my gf’s dad for his birthday lunch last year. They roll deep, so we had like 12 – 15 of her family members there. When you are driving to get here you will wonder, wtf is up with the neighborhood? Where are you taking me? Those were the questions asked(even though they live on the west side, pssh). They thought it was gonna be some hole in the wall. When you walk in, it is quite the opposite. We didn’t know what we want so we went with there recommendations. It was real good. The only person who was hatin’ was her mom. She works in the restaurant business and isn’t really ever satisfied with restaurants in general. Plus, she hates spicy food. The service was great and they were pretty relaxed. I find good Thai restaurants are like that, though it’s like the whole«land of the smiles» thing I read about in college. Anyway, the rest of us really like it. We just haven’t wanted to drive through the neighborhood to get back. So try it out. I’m definitely going to have to go back so I can update this review.

I like the funky feel of this place but it was a little cold(literally) while we listened to the ipod playlist of our waitress. It many ways this place is similar to the location on 2nd St. I really was craving the duck curry they have at the other location but it wasn’t on the menu here so I had to seek out something different. I guess a good thing is that it’s BYOB with a liquor store next door in case you forget. It’s great when you have something in mind to drink that isn’t on the menu. The food was excellent as I expected. The waitress was very nice. The clientele was different than what I’m used to but it was fine. It was not as energetic or full as places on 2nd St but maybe we just nailed a quiet night. This place is perfect if you’re looking for a good dinner with your option of alcoholic beverage– Long Beach needs more of these places! ;)

when deciding what to eat for break my classmates decided to eat here since we had a longer break today than we usually do. As i pulled into the parking lot i was discouraged to see that the parking lot was really small. I was lucky to have gone at a time when no one was there cause i would have probably left. I walk in and immediately noticed the nice décor and was greeted with a friendly smile by the waitress. I end up ordering the lunch special for &6.95 which included grilled marinated beef, rice, and a salad. Within minutes of ordering i got my salad and didnt like it. Im not knocking off any stars for this since it may only be me who doesnt like it. After about a 10 – 15 minute wait i finally got my food. It didnt look like much in the beginning but it definitely filled me up. The meat was juicy and well seasoned and the rice was like any other rice. the one thing i really didnt like about it, which is why im knocking off 2 stars, was that my meat was cold! it felt as if it was cooked first and they just let it sit out. I would have complained but i was really hungry. So i ended up putting my hot rice over the meat to heat it up a little. I dont think this place is for me.

Geez, talk about a diamond in the rough! I wasn’t excited about going to an… unpretty part of PCH to eat, but my friends recommended it so I trusted them. This is seriously the best pad see ew I’ve ever had, and I’ve had this dish at a lot of places. We all had something off the lunch special menu for $ 6.95. It included soup or salad, a main dish, and rice(except the pad see ew didn’t come with rice). Needless to say, everyone’s plates were empty by the end of the meal and we all left happy. And I know this has nothing to do with the food, but the music was awesome! It’s probably the DJ in me, but I’m asking where they got their tunes the next time I go back.

Excellent. I was going to order the chicken satay, green curry and pad Thai because several Unilocalers recommended them. I ended up getting the pad Thai and panang/red curry. The portions were generous and every thing was fresh. The pad Thai is tops. Not greasy like many places. It came with a few prawns and they were huge. At most Thai places a particular flavor pops out. In both my dishes it was chili powder. The chef’s use of this spice is inspiring.(and this is coming from someone who didn’t think they liked chili powder. I was also impressed because too many Thai places just throw on the oyster sauce and call it a day. This place seems more thoughtful than that, though I’d have to try more dishes to have an opinion.) I can’t wait to come back and try more. The neighborhood isn’t the best, which is probably why I noticed many people call in their orders to go. This is a great to-go place, but if you don’t mind the area, the inside is pleasant and the owners are sweet.

The sign on the door says«close» instead of «closed.» This probably offends no one but me(being an English teacher). We told the staff. First they didn’t get it, then they argued that it was right, because«close» means almost closing or temporarily closed and«closed» means permanently closed, like out of business. I couldn’t convince them otherwise. Sigh… I guess they’ll just stay«close,» but not to my heart, unfortunately. The interior of this restaurant is on the trendy«upscale» side, and I really like the happy Thai pop music playing in the background. Servers were extremely friendly and helpful, but the food took an awful long time to come out. Maybe I was just hungry and impatient. I’m not sure. Maybe it was a little bit of both? The tom yum soup was very salty, but that oftentimes happens. The broth was a deep reddish color, which I’m not used too. I love spice, but this had perhaps too much and not enough lemon. We definitely could have used some rice to accompany this. The pad thai was a little sour, because I guess they use tamarind instead of another, more commonly used ingredient. The flavor was okay, but I’m not the biggest fan of pad thai in general, so who knows. We had another noodle that is usually called a chicken noodle(I think here it was a blessed noodle?). This is predominately my favorite, but here it was dry and lacked flavor. It tasted«healthy.» Plus, it was sitting on a HUGE mound of lettuce, so there wasn’t much on top. It only looked like a lot. The crab fried rice suited my mom more than me. The shrimp they serve here are really big though, which is a definite plus. I got a sakaya to go(sticky rice with a coconut custard). It was a tad bit expensive, but it was very nice. I would come back just to order this dessert,

When I think of a restaurant located on Pacific Coast Highway I think of beach facing joints with spectacular views, crowded dining rooms, nice surroundings, and amazing food. Well Sri Maya Thai Cuisine, which is located on PCH in Long Beach, has none of the qualities above except for one, and that is this place makes some amazing food. I love Thai food and I had been on the look out for a good Thai place ever since I moved to Long Beach. I read all the reviews on this place and thought I would give it a try. When my girl and I pulled into the parking lot I thought for sure my GPS misguided me. Sri Maya is located in a small shopping center with a meat market and a couple of other random shops in a very ghetto part of Long Beach. As we walked into the restaurant the first thing that caught our eye was that is was deserted. There was not a soul in sight except for one waitress and some cooks in the back. The first impression I got from this place was not a good one, I mean from its undesirable surroundings to the empty restaurant I was sure I had made a mistake by coming here. My girl and I huddled up football style and discussed what we should do. After much deliberation we decided that Unilocal has really never let us down before so we decided to stay for dinner. Let me tell you I’m so glad we gave this place a chance because the food was wonderful. We started by ordering some Thai iced teas. In all the years I have enjoyed Thai teas I have never had one as good as theirs. I ended up ordering two of these excellent drinks. For dinner we shared an order of Khao Pad Kratieam which is a fried rice dish that comes with chicken and garlic. This fried rice was delicious. It had the perfect amount of garlic in it and was loaded with huge juicy pieces of chicken. My main dish was called Pad Priew Wan which is stir fried pork with sweet and sour sauce, pineapples, onions, and tomatoes. All the ingredients in this dish were cooked perfectly and the sweet and sour sauce that covered it all was one of the best I have ever tasted. My girl had a dish called the Crying Tiger which is BBQ beef served with a spicy Thai sauce. This dish was defiantly the highlight of our dinner. The BBQ beef was super juicy and very tender. The Spicy Thai sauce was so addicting, we ended up going through 4 sides of this sauce. For dessert we shared a piece of their warm banana cake. This cake was more like a huge piece of banana bread but only way moister and tastier. It was a perfect way to end the meal. The prices and service here was both great. Our waitress(the one and only in the whole place) was super friendly and even taught us the proper way to pronounce the names of their entrees. This place is a perfect example of that old saying«don’t judge a book by its cover». I just hope that this place stays in business because we were there about an hour and not one other person set foot into the restaurant in that whole time.

Beauty and the Beast Beauty — Sri Maya Thai Cusine Beast — Its location in Long Beach Sri Maya is an elegantly decorated restaurant with excellent food sitting in a neighborhood that has seen better days. From the outside, the non-descript building that housed Sri Maya is well camouflaged to blend in to the Signal Hill/Long Beach neighborhood. Take one step inside and you find your surroundings have been transformed. You are in a dining room that is the ying of the outside surrounding yang. We got to Sri May on a Wednesday at lunch hour and were the only customers –normally not a good sign but we decided to stay anyways. In life you sometimes make good decisions and sometimes bad — this was a good one. The attentive waiter took time to explain the various menu choices to us. I ended up ordering the Mint Chicken lunch special which included soup, entrée ANDANDAND dessert! My co-worker and partner in adventure eats ordered the Gang Khieo Wan(Green Curry) and rice. The waiter was nice enough to give her the soup and dessert that normally only came with the lunch specials. The dishes were absolutely fantastic. We both ordered our dishes hot and boy they had a kick. For the neighborhood it is in, the prices are rather high. Their lunch specials were $ 10. Most Thai restaurants in the area have lunch specials in the $ 6-$ 7 range. The amount of food was good but not above average. We both thought there were too many pieces of lemon grass in our soups which made drinking the soup almost like running an obstacle course. I personally think the prices were well worth it, the food was so so good but that could explain why there weren’t anyone else in the restaurant all the time we were there. Next time? I think I’m gonna have their Khao Pad Kratieam, Fried Rice with garlic sauce.

Oh no… 17 reviews all 5 stars? I am going to feel a little guilty rating this restaurant but I have my reasons! I was a little nervous driving to the restaurant, but don’t let the location scare you. Once I got to the restaurant, I felt very safe. I was pretty impressed with the décor of the place since I was expecting some run down Thai restaurant. I shared a small tom yum soup and Penang Beef with my boyfriend. We originally ordered another dish, but our server forgot to bring it out. We canceled our order because we were getting pretty full from the rest of the food that we ordered and we didn’t want to wait for them to make another dish. boo! The tom yum soup wasn’t too bad, but I kept biting into the lemon grass and this one huge piece of ginger… which wasn’t very pleasant in my mouth :(Penang Beef was very soupy. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either. This is Sri Mayas first 2 star review, but I feel that I am rating this restaurant fair and square. If they didn’t forget to bring one of our orders it would’ve been 3 stars.
